La scène de Besançon nous a déjà offert nombres d’artistes passionnants, alors quand les membres de celle-ci se rejoignent pour un projet commun on ne peut que foncer écouter ça! Random Heats, groupe formé par des membres présents ou passés de Jack & The Bearded Fishermen, Wendy’s Surrender ou encore Nothing To Prove, nous présente en ce 20 février leur premier album. Intitulé Love PTSD, il est disponible via entre autres MA Såret Records, Araki Records et distribué par L’Autre Distribution. Amateurs de post hardcore teinté d’emo, plongez avec nous dans cette première sortie du groupe qui s’annonce des plus enthousiasmantes.

D’entrée le groupe nous montre que son post hardcore est là pour frapper fort. L’influence 90’s sur le son est bien présente mais ne vient pas prendre le dessus. Le titre vient nous présenter une des forces du groupe, ses trois voix! C’est donc les trois quarts du groupe qui poussent la chansonnette pour le plus grand plaisir de nos tympans, chacun avec sa signature vocale. « Before We Met » laisse à Jean-Philippe Putaud (ex Nothing To Prove) et Hervé Bailly (Jack & The Bearded Fishermen) une belle occasion de nous proposer des riffs enthousiasmants et taillés pour le pit. On ressent bien là l’influence de groupes comme Quicksand mais aussi le côté emo du groupe dans les paroles. « Past Tears » semble être une version plus énergique de ce que peuvent proposer les géants de The Get Up Kids. C’est simple on a ce subtile mélange entre énergie et émotion qui fait la force du genre et qui nous en met plein la vue déjà en quelques titres.
La section rythmique tenue par Thomas Paris (également dans Jack & The Bearded Fishermen) et Rémi Grosbois (ex Wendy’s Surrender) est en grande fome et nous laisse avec « Manikin » un ou encore « At The Frame Shop » des titres taillés pour nous faire remuer dans notre salon, et on l’espère bientôt dans les salles de concert. La variation entre ce son remuant et des paroles contant des histoires d’amour tristes fonctionne à merveille et nous montre qu’en France aussi les groupes excellent sur cette corde raide. Le trio vocal offre de belles variations ce qui permet à chaque titre de d’avoir une identité forte et de se démarquer tout en s’inscrivant dans un tout des plus passionnants. C’est d’ailleurs là qu’on retrouve le plus l’influence 90’s avec ces voix comme enveloppées dans le mix, une pure réussite. L’album file à une vitesse folle et lorsque « Slow Burn » et « Fences » arrivent on se dit qu’on reprendrait encore bien un peu de ce son si unique qui en plus de nous marquer dès la première sortie nous ramène à des noms qui nous font vibrer depuis de nombreuses années. Et nous voilà récompensées avec le super titre éponyme de clôture. Une belle montée en puissance qui se se solde par un titre des plus réussis qu’on a envie de se repasser en boucle, et qui nous remet une belle dose d’émotion brute pour terminer ce disque.
Avec Love PTSD, Random Hearts nous offrent un premier disque qui marque l’auditeur par sa grande qualité et par son amour du post hardcore. On y retrouve tout ce qu’on aime mais avec cette identité forte qui en fait un disque unique, marqué tout de même par de belles influences qu’on sent tout au long du disque mais qui ne prennent jamais le dessus. Une bien belle lettre d’amour à la musique, et on espère très fort que cette histoire là finira bien, car le groupe a plein de belles choses à nous proposer, et ce premier disque semble en être qu’un premier aperçu.

The Besançon scene has already given us many exciting artists, so when its members get together for a joint project, you can’t help but rush to listen to it! Random Heats, a band formed by current and former members of Jack & The Bearded Fishermen, Wendy’s Surrender and Nothing To Prove, are releasing their first album on February 20th. Entitled Love PTSD, it is available via MA Såret Records, Araki Records and distributed by L’Autre Distribution, among others. Fans of emo-tinged post-hardcore, dive in with us into this exciting debut release from the band.
Right from the start, the band shows us that their post-hardcore sound is here to make an impact. The 90s influence on the sound is clearly present but does not take over. The track showcases one of the band’s strengths: their three voices! Three quarters of the band sing to the delight of our ears, each with their own vocal signature. ‘Before We Met’ gives Jean-Philippe Putaud (formerly of Nothing To Prove) and Hervé Bailly (Jack & The Bearded Fishermen) a great opportunity to offer us exciting riffs that are perfect for the pit. We can clearly feel the influence of bands like Quicksand, but also the band’s emo side in the lyrics. ‘Past Tears’ seems to be a more energetic version of what the giants of The Get Up Kids have to offer. It’s simple: we have that subtle blend of energy and emotion that is the strength of the genre and that already impresses us in just a few tracks.
The rhythm section led by Thomas Paris (also in Jack & The Bearded Fishermen) and Rémi Grosbois (formerly of Wendy’s Surrender) is in great form, giving us tracks like ‘Manikin’ and ‘At The Frame Shop’ that are tailor-made to get us moving in our living rooms, and hopefully soon in concert halls too. The contrast between this lively sound and lyrics telling sad love stories works wonderfully and shows us that in France, too, bands excel at this balancing act. The vocal trio offers beautiful variations, giving each track a strong identity and allowing them to stand out while still forming part of a fascinating whole. This is where the 90s influence is most evident, with voices that seem to envelop the mix – a pure success. The album flies by at breakneck speed, and when ‘Slow Burn’ and ‘Fences’ arrive, we find ourselves wanting more of this unique sound, which not only made an impression on us from the very first listen but also brings us back to names that have been thrilling us for many years. And we are rewarded with the superb eponymous closing track. A beautiful crescendo that culminates in one of the most successful tracks, which we want to play over and over again, and which gives us a nice dose of raw emotion to end the album.
With Love PTSD, Random Hearts offer us a debut album that leaves a lasting impression on the listener with its high quality and love of post-hardcore. It has everything we love, but with a strong identity that makes it unique, marked by beautiful influences that can be felt throughout the album but never take over. It’s a beautiful love letter to music, and we sincerely hope that this story will have a happy ending, because the band has so much more to offer us, and this debut album seems to be just a glimpse of what’s to come.
