Avant d’entamer prochainement les beaux jours et ses festivals, Cerbère Coryphée et Le Black Lab nous ont offert une petite date fort sympathique le 12 mars pour terminer l’hiver en beauté, et surtout en musique, et quelle musique ! Deux groupes fantastiques étaient à l’honneur, avec Hällas et son Hard Rock de génie, ainsi que Earth Tongue et son Heavy Psych dans sa plus pure tradition. Alors forcément, on n’allait pas tarder à faire bouger nos jolis toisons tant ils étaient prêts à mettre le feu sur scène en nous apportant une bonne dose d’oxygène, et c’est ça qu’on aime !

Tous les fans du genre s’étaient regroupés pour une nouvelle soirée de folie au Black Lab. Un bon petit concert de Hard Rock à l’ancienne, saupoudré par une première partie dans la veine sombre et envoûtante de Heavy Psych, forcément, ça ne pouvait que plaire aux aficionados des genres. Rien qu’avant que ces deux groupes de talent ne montent sur scène, que l’on pouvait déjà sentir que cette soirée allait être d’enfer, et on ne s’était pas trompé ! On commence tout d’abord avec Earth Tongue. Le duo nous vient de Nouvelle-Zélande, plus précisément de Wellington et a décidé récemment de poser ses valises à Berlin. Quel bonheur de savoir qu’à quelques frontières d’ici, se joue leur son purement Heavy Psych dans des caves enfumées et autres lieux miteux remplis de bonnes vibes ! Earth Tongue nous joue donc un impressionnant mélange distortionné, avec comme bases solides leur son Heavy Psych, mais en apportant aussi diverses influences à leur musique, comme du Stoner Rock, Rock Psychédélique, Garage Rock, Garage Psych, voir carrément de l’Occult Rock. Avec Gussie Larkin au chant et guitare et Ezra Simons à la batterie ainsi qu’au backing vocals, le duo était prêt à nous envoyer dans l’espace avec leur lourdeur percutante mixée à des tonalités psychées carrément acidulées, sur la voix planante et ensorcelante de Gussie Larkin. Ce savant mélange qui nous a touché droit au cœur était sans précédent la parfaite mixture sonore pour nous donner envie de se laisser emporter par les vagues mystiques, occultes et intemporelles que nous a servi bien gracieusement Earth Tongue. Le duo a enchaîné leurs morceaux avec brio, et le public du Black Lab ne pouvait être que réceptif à cette déferlante psychédélique, le tout servi dans une lourdeur qui par moment pouvait même aller jusqu’à nous rappeler les tonalités graveleuses et poisseuses de certains groupe de Sludge. On se souvient encore de la massiveté de la saturation de guitare et des effets de Gussie Larkin, couplée à une sacrée dose d’octaver histoire de nous envoyer en orbite comme il se doit. Sans oublier la frappe sèche, précise, tantôt légère tantôt brutale d’Ezra Simmons, qui, avec génie, accompagnait Gussie Larkin à la perfection pour nous en mettre plein la tête. Et Bon Dieu que c’était bon ! Avec quelques singles, un Ep et trois albums studio dont le dernier en date Dungeon Vision (paru le 13 février 2026), Earth Tongue aura ouvert le bal comme il se doit lors d’un excellent live de 45 minutes, avec leur son Heavy Psych de qualité, en nous berçant de milles notes tantôt lourdes, tantôt planantes, et surtout délicieusement sans foi ni loi.

Après cette parfaite mise en bouche et surtout en oreilles, maintenant est venu le tour de Hällas de nous montrer ce qu’ils avaient à nous offrir, et ce pourquoi ils étaient là. Pièce maîtresse de la soirée, on ne pouvait forcément pas passer à côté de ce phénomène auditif hors du commun, vu à quel point rares sont les groupes qui donnent autant dans la musique que dans le théâtral qu’Hällas, et c’est justement ça qu’on aime chez eux et ce qu’on était venus chercher ce soir. Avec ses cinq membres, tous vêtus de longues capes noires teintées de discrètement de petits diamants, le groupe ne pouvait pas passer inaperçu. Et c’était justement tout le contraire de ce qu’ils voulaient, leurs artifices faisant parti intégrale d’eux-mêmes, mettant une touche finale à leur univers fantasmagorique et emprunt de douce rêverie étrange, à la la limite du délicat et de l’agréable. Sans oublier leurs décorations de scène qui nous emmenaient droit dans leur monde, avec cette grande colonne aux reflets d’argent qui trônait fièrement au milieu de scène, ces stalactites de glace mais aussi ce gros joyau qui était suspendu fièrement au dessus de la scène, reflétant divinement les lumières colorées qui lui étaient projetées dessus, donnant une touche à leur scénographie qui était à la limite du fantastique. Voilà, le tableau était posé, et le décor planté. Venus donc de Jönköping en Suède et formés en 2011, Hällas étaient là pour nous délecter de leur Hard Rock pêchu et entrainant, couplé à un Rock Progressif de toute beauté. Mené par Tommy Alexandersson au chant et à la basse, le quintet nous livre un Hard Rock entraînant, à la limite du rocambolesque et de l’imaginaire, nous invitant à entrer dans leur monde irréel, onirique, voire surnaturel. Ce qui nous touche par dessus tout, c’est ce mélange de riffs de guitares et de basse irrésistiblement incisifs bardés de solos de guitares saisissants, d’une batterie énergique, ainsi que de mélodies de synthés enivrantes, le tout posé délicatement sur une multitudes de changements de rythmes, accompagnés de mélodies chantantes voir carrément dansantes, le tout savamment mis en œuvre pour nous faire voyager dans leurs mondes parallèles, attrayants et subjuguant. Et l’on ne pouvait que se laisser séduire par cette excellente formule magique, parfaitement mise en œuvre dans leurs structures sonores concoctées au millimètre près, pour un show magnifique, mélangeant autant la musique, les lumières, que leurs costumes habilement pensés. Le tout nous offrant un moment unique au monde, partagé par tous les fans d’Hällas réunis ce soir au Black Lab et venus spécialement pour l’occasion. Comme on le dit, il fallait le voir pour le croire, et heureusement qu’on était là lors de cette magnifique soirée, car la musique d’Hällas nous a ramené tout droit dans nos bonnes vieilles années 80, bercées par une multitude de groupes phares, ainsi que de mélodies indémodables et toujours aussi marquantes. Et c’est ce qu’est Hällas au monde musical d’aujourd’hui, une étoile filante qu’il ne fallait laisser filer sous aucun prétexte, un ovni qu’on est admirablement content d’avoir pu voir ce soir. Avec quelques singles, un EP, un live album et 4 albums studio dont le dernier en date Panorama (paru récemment le 30 janvier 2026), Hällas nous aura fait le plaisir de nous jouer un sublime live d’1h30, en nous invitant dans leur univers magnifiquement poétique, théâtral et orchestral en tirant leur révérence tout en refermant derrière leur passage, les rideaux de ce remarquable bal.

Before the warmer weather and its festivals kick off soon, Cerbère Coryphée and Le Black Lab treated us to a lovely little gig on March 12th to round off the winter in style – and above all with music, and what music! Two fantastic bands took centre stage: Hällas with their brilliant hard rock, and Earth Tongue with their heavy psych in the purest tradition. So, naturally, it didn’t take long for us to get our heads banging, as they were ready to set the stage alight, giving us a proper breath of fresh air – and that’s exactly what we love!

All the fans of the genre had gathered for another wild night at the Black Lab. A cracking old-school hard rock gig, topped off with a support act in the dark, spellbinding vein of heavy psych – naturally, it was bound to please aficionados of the genres. Even before these two talented bands took to the stage, you could already sense that this night was going to be a blast, and we weren’t wrong! We started off with Earth Tongue. The duo hails from New Zealand, specifically Wellington, and recently decided to settle in Berlin. What a joy to know that just a stone’s throw away, their pure Heavy Psych sound is being played in smoky basements and other shabby venues brimming with good vibes! Earth Tongue treated us to an impressive, distorted mix, building on their solid Heavy Psych foundation whilst incorporating various influences into their music, such as Stoner Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Garage Rock, Garage Psych, and even Occult Rock. With Gussie Larkin on vocals and guitar and Ezra Simons on drums and backing vocals, the duo were ready to send us into space with their punchy heaviness mixed with downright acid-tinged psychedelic tones, over Gussie Larkin’s soaring, spellbinding vocals. This masterful blend, which struck a chord deep within us, was an unprecedented sonic mix that made us want to be swept away by the mystical, occult and timeless waves so graciously served up by Earth Tongue. The duo delivered their tracks with flair, and the Black Lab crowd couldn’t help but be swept up in this psychedelic wave, all served up with a heaviness that at times even brought to mind the gritty, sticky tones of certain sludge bands. We still remember the sheer massiveness of Gussie Larkin’s guitar distortion and effects, coupled with a hefty dose of octaver to send us into orbit as one should. Not to mention the crisp, precise drumming of Ezra Simmons at times light, at times brutal who, with genius, accompanied Gussie Larkin to perfection to really blow our minds. And God, it was brilliant! With a few singles, an EP and three studio albums, the latest of which is Dungeon Vision (released on February 13th 2026), Earth Tongue kicked things off in style with an excellent 45-minute live set, delivering their top-notch heavy psych sound, lulling us with a thousand notes that were by turns heavy and trippy, and above all delightfully lawless.

After that perfect appetiser – and, above all, treat for the ears – it was now Hällas’ turn to show us what they had to offer, and why they were there. The highlight of the evening, we simply couldn’t miss this extraordinary auditory phenomenon, given how rare it is to find bands that put as much into the music as they do into the theatricality that Hällas bring, and that is precisely what we love about them and what we had come to see tonight. With its five members, all clad in long black capes subtly studded with tiny diamonds, the band could not go unnoticed. And that was precisely the opposite of what they wanted; their stage props were an integral part of their identity, adding the finishing touch to their phantasmagorical world, imbued with a gentle, strange reverie, hovering on the edge of the delicate and the pleasant. Not to mention their stage decorations, which transported us straight into their world, with that large silver-glinting column standing proudly in the centre of the stage, those ice stalactites, and also that huge jewel suspended proudly above the stage, divinely reflecting the coloured lights projected onto it, adding a touch to their stage design that bordered on the fantastical. So, the stage was set, and the scene laid out. Hailing from Jönköping in Sweden and formed in 2011, Hällas were there to treat us to their lively, rousing hard rock, combined with some truly beautiful progressive rock. Led by Tommy Alexandersson on vocals and bass, the quintet delivers infectious hard rock, verging on the fantastical and the imaginary, inviting us into their unreal, dreamlike, even supernatural world. What strikes us above all is this blend of irresistibly incisive guitar and bass riffs, laced with striking guitar solos, energetic drumming, and intoxicating synth melodies, all delicately layered over a multitude of rhythm changes, accompanied by melodious, even downright danceable tunes, all skilfully crafted to transport us into their parallel worlds, which are both alluring and captivating. And one couldn’t help but be captivated by this excellent magic formula, perfectly executed within their meticulously crafted soundscapes, for a magnificent show blending music, lighting and their cleverly designed costumes. All of this offered us a truly unique experience, shared by all the Hällas fans gathered tonight at the Black Lab and who had come especially for the occasion. As they say, you had to see it to believe it, and thank goodness we were there on that magnificent evening, because Hällas’s music transported us straight back to the good old 80s, a time defined by a host of iconic bands and timeless, unforgettable tunes. And that is what Hällas is in today’s music scene: a shooting star that was not to be missed under any circumstances, a phenomenon we are absolutely delighted to have witnessed this evening. With a few singles, an EP, a live album and four studio albums, the latest of which is Panorama (released on January 30th 2026), Hällas treated us to a sublime 90-minute live set, inviting us into their magnificently poetic, theatrical and orchestral world, taking their bow whilst drawing the curtains on this remarkable ball as they left the stage.
