« Comment aller de plus en plus loin dans le deathcore », c’est une question que l’on pensait répondu après la sortie de l’album Pain Remains de Lorna Shore l’année dernière, et pourtant ! Distant vont venir vous prouver qu’on est loin d’avoir fait le tour du Deathcore avec ce nouvel album, Heritage, sorti via Century Media ce vendredi 10 février.

Il faut bien un premier titre 100 % instrumental pour commencer cet album ! « Acid Rain » nous introduit dans l’univers des Hollandais/Slovaque avec un son qui fait écho à la musique que l’on retrouve dans les jeux vidéos, lorsque l’on pénétre dans un nouveau lieu où va se dérouler la grande bataille finale. Le son est métallique, avec des sonorités électro et offre une superbe introduction pour la brutalité qui va nous dévorer tout cru !

Et la brutalité, c’est probablement le mot qui qualifie le mieux cet album. La première phrase chantée ne fera pas dans la dentelle et annoncera directement la couleur : « i spit on your grave » (traduisez « J’ai craché sur ta tombe »). C’est gras, c’est lourd, et l’album ne nous offrira aucun répit. « The Grief Manifest » nous a prévenu avec cette phrase : Imagine un monde où la souffrance ne s’arrête jamais. Cette souffrance, ce sera les cris de Alan Grnja, parfois similaire à un cri de cochon comme sur « Born Of Blood » ou d’une profondeur folle sur « The Gnostic Uprising », sont d’une maîtrise impressionnante ! On est totalement admiratif de ce travail sur sa voix que le front man reussi à tenir. Et il faut dire qu’il s’est entouré des meilleurs vocalistes de la scène coreuse puisqu’on retrouve sur le morceau « Heritage » le fabuleux Will Ramos de Lorna Shore, ou encore Aaron Matts de Ten56. , Devin Duarte de Worm Shepherd, Hernan « Eddie » Hermida de Suicide Silence, Johnny Ciardullo de Carcosa, Frankie Palmeri de Emmure, Andreas Bjulver Paarup de Cabal… On arrête la liste ici car ils seront pas moins de 13 vocalistes sur le titre « Argent Justice ».

Assez parlé du chant, les performances des musiciens sont elles aussi magistrales. « Exofilth » offrira à Nouri Yetgin un solo le mettant en avant avec brio. Chaque breakdown est plus profond et violent que le précédent. Les concerts liés à cette tournée s’annoncent explosif ! Malgré la profondeur des sons, la superposition des riffs, la puissance de la batterie de Jan Mato,  les morceaux ont la force de ne pas devenir brouillon, et ce n’était pas chose facile.

Distant propose avec Heritage un album pur de deathcore condensé, très cohérent et d’une brutalité sans nom. Tout y est pour ravir les connaisseurs de ce style, mais sera moins accessibles pour d’autres. Cet album restera un bel exemple de démonstration magistrale de deathcore, et marquera autant la discographie du groupe, que la scène core Européenne.

« How to go further and further in deathcore » is a question we thought was answered after the release of Lorna Shore’s Pain Remains album last year, and yet! Distant are going to prove to you that we are far from having done the trick of deathcore with this new album, Heritage, released via Century Media this Friday February 10th.

We need a first 100% instrumental track to start this album! « Acid Rain » introduces us in the universe of the Dutch/Slovakian with a sound that echoes the music found in video games, when we enter a new place where the great final battle will take place. The sound is metallic, with electro sounds and offers a great introduction for the brutality that will devour us alive!

And brutality is probably the word that best describes this album. The first sung sentence will not make in the lace and will announce directly the color: « i spit on your grave ». It’s fat, it’s heavy, and the album won’t offer us any respite. « The Grief Manifest » warned us with this sentence: Imagine a world where the suffering never stops. This suffering can be found in Alan Grnja‘s screams, sometimes similar to a pig’s cry as on « Born Of Blood » or of a crazy depth on « The Gnostic Uprising », are of an impressive mastery! We are totally admiring this work on his voice that the front man managed to hold. And it must be said that he surrounded himself with the best vocalists of the core scene since we find on the track « Heritage » the fabulous Will Ramos of Lorna Shore, or Aaron Matts of Ten56., Devin Duarte of Worm Shepherd, Hernan « Eddie » Hermida of Suicide Silence, Johnny Ciardullo of Carcosa, Frankie Palmeri of Emmure, Andreas Bjulver Paarup of Cabal… We stop the list here because they will be no less than 13 vocalists on the title « Argent Justice ».

Enough about the vocals, the musicians’ performances are also masterful. « Exofilth » will offer to Nouri Yetgin a solo putting him forward with brilliance. Each breakdown is deeper and more violent than the previous one. The concerts related to this tour are going to be explosive! In spite of the depth of the sounds, the superposition of the riffs, the power of the drums of Jan Mato, the tracks have the strength not to become scrambled, and it was not easy.

With Heritage, Distant offers a pure album of condensed deathcore, very coherent and with a unspeakable brutality. Everything is there to delight the connoisseurs of this style, but will be less accessible for others. This album will remain a beautiful example of masterly demonstration of deathcore, and will mark as much the discography of the group, as the European coreuse scene.
