La journée du dimanche, c’est repos ou journée en famille, et ben ce dernier dimanche de mars, The Black Lab et We’re Not Worthy nous proposent une alternative pour cette après midi: 6 groupes de grindcore à la suite! Et pas des moindres, puisque Wormrot sont de passage dans la salle de Wasquehal! Et ils sont accompagnés par la crème du grind français avec la présence de Darkall Slaves, UNSU, Gummo, Trepan’Dead et Insane Order. Autant vous dire que tous les sets de cette soirée vont être rapides et furieux et ne laisser au public aucun répit!

On commence à 15h30 avec les valenciennois de Insane Order! Malheureusement tout le monde n’a pas encore fini le repas dominical chez mamie et le groupe joue devant une salle peu remplie. Mais le groupe ne se démonte pas et nous propose un grind redoutablement efficace, parfaitement interprété. Le groupe met en avant son album Overraped sorti l’an dernier mais propose aussi des titres des albums et EP précédents. Le public commence à bouger la tête au fur et à mesure des morceaux et se met en jambes pour la longue après-midi qui arrive. En un peu plus de vingt minutes, nous auront le droit à une douzaine de titres de la formation, ce qui nous permet de découvrir une belle dose de morceaux de leur cru, et clairement c’est très convaincant. Insane Order remercient l’orga et les autres groupes présents et nous souhaitent de profiter pleinement de tout ce qui arrive. Une belle manière d’entamer cette journée!

On poursuit très vite avec Trepan’Dead. Le quintet débarque sur la scène et déclenche les premiers pits de la journée. Boldo et Chris se partagent le chant pendant que les trois musiciens balancent riffs et rythmiques imparables sur leurs instruments. Le groupe formé en 1998  nous fait voyager en 13 titres à travers sa discographie, et on sent que les fans sont présents. Chris ira même faire un tour en slam dans la fosse qui a commencé à bien se remplir pour ce deuxième set de la journée. Pas le temps de se reposer, les titres s’enchaînent et nous permettent de découvrir un grind totalement maîtrisé. Comme pour le groupe précédent, la petite demi-heure de set est redoutablement efficace et montre que la scène française est en grande forme!

Et c’est parti pour les locaux de Gummo! En quelques titres, le groupe sera notre véritable coup de coeur de la journée. Les morceaux entre grind et power violence fonctionnent à merveille et nous font headbanger du début à la fin. On sent que beaucoup dans la salle sont prêts pour ce set et les pits et autre slams se multiplient morceaux après morceaux. L’énergie qui se dégage du set nous ravit, et on laisse le groupe nous balancer ses riffs assassins. Le groupe n’a pas volé sa réputation de formation à ne pas manquer, on a vraiment adoré cette prestation, et on retournera vite voir le groupe. Ce mélange des genres à clairement terminé de réveiller la fosse de The Black Lab qui ne s’arrêtera plus jusqu’à la fin de la soirée.

On passe rapidement au set de UNSU qui reviennent à un grindcore plus classique mais tout aussi efficace. On sent que là aussi le public connait bien la formation et donne toute son énergie pour soutenir les musiciens. Le groupe nous balance beaucoup de morceaux de son dernier album en date en date en ne laissant pas ses anciennes sorties de côté. Les fans présents sont à fond! On a encore devant nous un groupe de grande qualité qui ne laisse rien au hasard tout au long du set. « K.I.A.I » ou encore « Wasteland Jail » font leur petit effet et nous confirment que cette journée tient pour le moment toutes ses promesses.

Cinquième set de la soirée et celui-ci signe un retour très attendu vu l’ambiance dans la salle. En effet, Darkall Slaves n’ont pas joué dans la métropole lilloise depuis 8 ans. Le groupe vient nous présenter plusieurs titres de l’album Mephetic Redolence Of The Decomposed, sorti l’an dernier. On est là sur des morceaux plus tournés vers le brutal death que le grind. L’énergie du groupe est dingue, et on découvre là aussi une formation installée qui envoie un son très lourd dans nos oreilles. Ce petit changement de style fait du bien aussi et montre que les genres se complètent et attirent un public similaire. Les anciens morceaux ne sont pas oubliés, au grand plaisir des fans présents qui applaudissent largement le groupe entre deux pits. Une prestation qui donne envie de revoir le groupe, qui promettra de revenir jouer sans attendre huit nouvelles années.

Il est seulement 20h quand les singapouriens de Wormrot montent sur scène pour leur set tant attendu. Leur album Hiss sorti l’an dernier nous a clairement marqué et dès le premier morceau on en prends plein la vue. Le son est parfait et laisse prendre la pleine mesure du grindcore de la formation. Le groupe accueille pour cette tournée un nouveau chanteur, ce qui permet donc de découvrir les morceaux sous un nouveau jour. Le public se donne à fond une dernière fois pendant l’avalanche de titres proposés par les trois musiciens. On est clairement face à un groupe en grande forme qui montre une fois encore toute sont talent. Le groupe enchaine et ne laisse absolument aucun répit au public lillois. La soirée se termine avec un set d’anthologie qu’on oubliera pas de si tôt!

The Black Lab et We’re Not Worthy nous ont concocté une journée grind de très grande qualité, avec une place de choix offerte à la scène locale. On espère que ce dimanche après midi aux allures de festival n’est que le premier d’une longue série! On peut dire que la scène grind a montré sa vitalité et sa belle cohésion en cette journée, et on adore voir ça chez Sounding Shivers!

Sundays are either rest days or family days, and well this last Sunday of March, The Black Lab and We’re Not Worthy offer us an alternative for this afternoon: 6 grindcore bands in a row! And not the least, since Wormrot are coming to Wasquehal! And they are accompanied by the cream of French grind with the presence of Darkall Slaves, UNSU, Gummo, Trepan’Dead and Insane Order. You might as well say that all the sets of this evening will be fast and furious and won’t leave the audience any respite!

We start at 3.30 pm with the Valenciennes band Insane Order! Unfortunately not everyone has finished their Sunday lunch at grandma’s yet and the band plays to a small crowd. But the band doesn’t give up and offers us a very efficient grind, perfectly interpreted. The band play their album Overraped released last year but also play tracks from previous albums and EPs. The audience starts to shake their heads as the songs go on and gets into shape for the long afternoon ahead. In a little over twenty minutes we are treated to a dozen tracks from the band, which allows us to discover a good dose of their own songs, and clearly it is very convincing. Insane Order thank the orga and the other bands present and wish us to enjoy everything that is coming. A great way to start the day!

We continue very quickly with Trepan’Dead. The quintet takes the stage and sets off the first pits of the day. Boldo and Chris share the vocals while the three musicians play unstoppable riffs and rhythms on their instruments. The band formed in 1998 takes us on a 13 track journey through their discography, and you can feel that the fans are there. Chris even goes for a slam in the pit which has started to fill up for this second set of the day. No time to rest, the tracks follow one another and allow us to discover a totally mastered grind. As for the previous band, the half hour set is very efficient and shows that the French scene is in great shape!

And here we go for the local Gummo! In a few tracks, the band will be our real favourite of the day. The tracks between grind and power violence work perfectly and make us headbang from the beginning to the end. We feel that many people in the room are ready for this set and the pits and other slams multiply track after track. The energy that emanates from the set delights us, and we let the band throw its murderous riffs at us. The band has not stolen its reputation as a band not to be missed, we really loved this performance, and we will go back to see the band soon. This mix of genres clearly finished waking up The Black Lab‘s pit, which will not stop until the end of the night.

We quickly move on to the set of UNSU who come back to a more classic grindcore but just as efficient. We can feel that the audience knows the band well and gives all its energy to support the musicians. The band plays a lot of songs from their latest album, not leaving their older releases aside. The fans present are really into it! We have before us again a high quality band that leaves nothing to chance throughout the set. « K.I.A.I » and « Wasteland Jail » have a great effect and confirm that this day is still keeping its promises.

Fifth set of the evening and this one is a very expected return considering the atmosphere in the room. Indeed, Darkall Slaves haven’t played in the Lille metropolis for 8 years. The band comes to present us several tracks from their album Mephetic Redolence Of The Decomposed, released last year. We’re here on tracks more oriented towards brutal death than grind. The energy of the band is insane, and we discover here again a settled band that sends a very heavy sound in our ears. This little change of style is also good and shows that the genres complement each other and attract a similar audience. The old songs are not forgotten, to the great pleasure of the fans present who applaud the band widely between two pits. A performance that makes you want to see the band again, who promise to come back and play without waiting for another eight years.

It’s only 8pm when Singaporean band Wormrot take the stage for their long awaited set. Their album Hiss, released last year, has clearly left its mark on us and from the very first track we are in for a treat. The sound is perfect and lets you take the full measure of the band’s grindcore. The band welcomes a new singer for this tour, which allows us to discover the songs in a new light. The audience gives their all one last time during the avalanche of tracks offered by the three musicians. We are clearly in front of a band in great shape that shows once again all its talent. The band goes on and on and doesn’t let the audience in Lille have any respite. The evening ends with an anthology set that we won’t soon forget!

The Black Lab and We’re Not Worthy have concocted a very high quality grind day, with a special place given to the local scene. We hope that this festival-like Sunday afternoon is just the first of many! We can say that the grind scene showed its vitality and its beautiful cohesion on this day, and we love to see that at Sounding Shivers!
