Après un album ambitieux, qui a tourné en boucle tout 2018, les Français de Rise Of The Northstar sont de retour ce 07 Avril pour leur troisIème album studio : Showdown sorti via Atomic Fire. ROTN c’est du métal moderne, un mélange de hardcore et de hip hop, des références nippones à n’en plus finir mais surtout, une marque de fabrique. Du ROTN, ça se reconnait à mille kilomètres, on adore ça, et on en redemande.

Après un avenir incertain, et une date à l’Olympia annulé, on voulait retrouver le groupe à pleine puissance et « The Anthem » va nous l’offrir. Dès les premières secondes, ça tabasse fort ! Comme un nouvel hymne à l’arrivée de notre empereur, Shi annonce son retour. Nos chevaliers à l’armure noir s’aventurent vers leur nouvel aventure. Sur « Showdown », on est dans la continuité direct du précédent album, le morceau pourrait même y être tiré sans problème. Mais la transformation en chevalier blanc est imminente. Partons au combat ! La « Third Strike » est une bataille acharné. On imagine déjà le pit en concert comme un champ de bataille. Le breakdown du morceau est furieux, et on peut souligner que la nouvelle personne sous le masque de Phantom fait un job monstrueux à la batterie. « Crank It Up » et ses riffs comme des bruitages d’attaque dans une bataille dans un animé ne manque pas à nous rappeler tout l’univers japonais du groupe Mais Vithia est français, et l’usage du français est incroyable. Le groupe y gagnerait à introduire encore plus de couplet dans la langue de Molière. Ils le savent, et la phrase « C’est si bon de chanter dans sa langue maternelle » sur « One Love » en est témoin. Dans tous les cas, ça plait à tout le monde ! Vous ne me croyez pas ? Faites un tour dans la section commentaire Youtube du morceau, on peut y voir (ou lire pour les polyglotes) des commentaires en russe, en portugais, en anglais et même en japonais, tous unanime : Quel morceau incroyable. Si « One Love » a été choisi comme premier single, le choix n’est pas fait au hasard. On retrouve dans ce titre, à l’instar de « Demonstrating My Saiya Style », « Again And Again » ou « Here’s Come The Boom », tout ce qui fait un bon morceau de ROTN : un mélange de guitare saturés, une rythmique hardcore, un breakdown efficace et des paroles de haut niveau. On a envie de chanter avec eux et ça tombe bien car sur  « Shogun No Shi », vous pourrez crier « It’s an Execution » à plein poumon. Autre cette rythmique folle et ROTN laisse place aux beaux solos de guitares. Si vous aviez adoré la guitare de Eva-B sur « Step By Step » dans l’album précédent, vous aurez le droit à la même signature avec « Clan ». Dans ces neufs premiers morceaux, on se fait le constat suivant : Rise Of The Northstar sont bel et bien de retour, avec tous ces codes de leur musique ré-utilisés à la perfection, mais ça manque de surprise. Il faudra attendre le tout dernier titre « Rise [ライズ] » pour être totalement pris au dépourvu. Quel pied, le morceau est incroyable! « And [THEY] rise again »

 

Musicalement, Rise Of The Northstar ne m’ont jamais déçu, et ce nouvel album vient confirmer ma pensée. Ils arrivent à mélanger toutes ses sonorités hip hop et métal pour en faire un groupe à part entière. On regrette le manque de prise de risque, mais on aime le fait que leur musique soit toujours égale à elle même. Vous me retrouverez sûrement au premier rang de leurs concerts comme lors de leurs passages au Trianon, au BetiZfest, ou toutes ses dates folles que j’ai fait d’eux.

After an ambitious album, which has toured in loop all 2018, the French of Rise Of The Northstar are back this April 07 for their third studio album: Showdown released via Atomic Fire. ROTN is modern metal, a mixture of hardcore and hip hop, endless Japanese references but above all, a trademark. ROTN, you can recognize it a thousand miles away, we love it, and we want more.

After an uncertain future, and a cancelled date at the Olympia, we wanted to find the band at full power and « The Anthem » is going to offer us that. From the first seconds, it hits hard! Like a new hymn to the arrival of our emperor, Shi announces his return. Our knights in black armor venture towards their new adventure. On « Showdown », we are in the direct continuity of the previous album, the song could even be drawn from it without problem. But the transformation into a white knight is imminent. Let’s go to battle! The « Third Strike » is a fierce battle. We already imagine the pit in concert as a battlefield. The breakdown of the song is furious, and we can underline that the new person under the mask of Phantom does a monstrous job on the drums. « Crank It Up » and its riffs like attack sounds in an anime battle does not fail to remind us of the whole Japanese universe of the band. But Vithia is French, and the use of French is incredible. The band would benefit from introducing more verses in the language of Molière. They know it, and the sentence « C’est si bon de chanter dans sa langue maternelle » (you can translate by « It’s so good to sing in my mother tongue ») on « One Love » is a witness of it. In any case, everyone likes it! Don’t believe me? Have a look at the Youtube comment section of the song, you can see (or read for the polyglots) comments in Russian, Portuguese, English and even Japanese, all unanimous: What an incredible song. If « One Love » has been chosen as the first single, the choice is not made at random. Like « Demonstrating My Saiya Style », « Again And Again » or « Here’s Come The Boom », this track has everything that makes a good ROTN song: a mix of saturated guitars, a hardcore rhythm, an efficient breakdown and high level lyrics. We want to sing with them and it’s good because on « Shogun No Shi », you can shout « It’s an Execution » at the top of your lungs. Other this crazy rhythmic and ROTN gives way to beautiful guitar solos. If you loved Eva-B‘s guitar on « Step By Step » in the previous album, you will have the right to the same signature with « Clan ». In these first nine tracks, we make the following observation: Rise Of The Northstar are well and truly back, with all these codes of their music reused to perfection, but it lacks surprise. We will have to wait for the very last track « Rise [ライズ] » to be totally caught off guard. What a kick, the track is incredible! « And [THEY] rise again »

Musically, Rise Of The Northstar have never disappointed me, and this new album confirms my thought. They manage to mix all their hip hop and metal sounds to make a full band. We regret the lack of risk-taking, but we like the fact that their music is always equal to itself. You will surely find me in the first row of their concerts as during their passages in the Trianon, in the BetiZfest, or all these crazy dates that I made of them.
