Predatory Void, groupe composé entre autres de membres d’Amenra, Oathbreaker, Doodseskader ou encore Cobra The Impaler, sortent aujourd’hui leur premier album. Initulé Seven Keys To The Disconfort Of Being, il disponible via Century Media.  Autant vous dire que à la vue de notre amour pour les groupes cités ici, cet album était clairement un immanquable. Que nous réserve cette nouvelle formation avec cette première sortie?

Le premier titre « Grovel » commence avec les guitares puissantes de Lennart Bossu et Thijs De Cloedt avant que la voix hurlée puissante de Lina R (Cross Bringer) vienne rejoindre la partie. Comme à notre habitude avec leurs autres groupes respectifs on est plongé dans une musique massive et déchirante entre post métal et sludge voire ici du blackened sludge. Le morceau frappe en plein coeur et montre d’entrée que nous allons nous faire malmener tout au long de l’écoute de cet album. La voix versatile de Lina R montre d’autres facettes tout au long du morceau avant un cri perçant en ouverture de « *(struggling..) ». Ici la batterie de Vincent Verstrepen navigue entre rapidité et lenteur dévastatrices. Les émotions sont parfaitement véhiculées titre après titre avec comme point commun un malaise ambiant qui colle parfaitement au titre de cette première sortie du groupe.

Plutôt que de vous parler longuement du troisième titre de cet album, véritable avalanche de décibels. Je vous laisse le découvrir par vous même :

Les morceaux suivants mettent en avant la basse lourde de Tim De Gieter, qu’on est ravis de retrouver dans cette nouvelle formation. « The Well Within » est une belle représentation de tout ce que le groupe veut nous proposer musicalement. Là encore les riffs et autres rythmiques viennent nous retourner au plus profond de notre être pour nous faire ressentir le malaise dégoulinant des paroles chantées par Lina R. On arrive, beaucoup trop rapidement au dernier titre de l’album, « Funerary Vision ». Cette dernière piste, la plus longue de l’album, est une dernière possibilité pour le groupe de tout lâcher dans une composition parfaite de bout en bout, qui ne fait que confirmer tout le bien qu’on pense de cette première sortie du groupe belge.

Avec un titre aussi évocateur, Seven Keys To The Disconfort Of Being ne pouvait être qu’un album puissant et dévastateur. Mais il a livré ses surprises et propose également des morceaux plus doux mais tout aussi lourds dans les thématiques abordées. Une vraie réussite qui lance Predatory Void en force et qui donne envie de voir ce que la formation belge va pouvoir nous proposer par la suite! Bien évidemment nous n’avons qu’une hâte, entendre ces magnifiques compositions en concert!

Predatory Void, a band composed of members of Amenra, Oathbreaker, Doodseskader and Cobra The Impaler, have released their first album today. Entitled Seven Keys To The Disconfort Of Being, it is available via Century Media. I might as well tell you that given our love for the bands mentioned here, this album was clearly a must-have. What does this new band have in store for us with this first release?

The first track « Grovel » starts with the powerful guitars of Lennart Bossu and Thijs De Cloedt before the powerful screaming voice of Lina R (Cross Bringer) joins the party. As usual with their other bands, we are immersed in a massive and heartbreaking music between post metal and sludge or even blackened sludge. The song hits right in the heart and shows from the start that we’re going to get roughed up throughout the listening of this album. Lina R‘s versatile voice shows other facets throughout the track before a piercing scream at the opening of « *(struggling..) ». Here Vincent Verstrepen‘s drums navigate between devastatingly fast and slow. The emotions are perfectly conveyed track after track with an ambient uneasiness that perfectly fits the title of this first release of the band.

Rather than talk at length about the third track of this album, a real avalanche of decibels. I’ll let you discover it for yourself:

The following tracks feature the heavy bass of Tim De Gieter, who we are delighted to see in this new line-up. « The Well Within » is a beautiful representation of everything the band wants to offer us musically. Here again the riffs and rhythms go deep inside us to make us feel the dripping unease of the lyrics sung by Lina R. We arrive, much too quickly, at the last track of the album, « Funerary Vision ». This last track, the longest on the album, is a last chance for the band to let it all out in a perfect composition from start to finish, which only confirms all the good things we think of this first release from the Belgian band.

With such an evocative title, Seven Keys To The Disconfort Of Being could only be a powerful and devastating album. But it has delivered its surprises and also offers softer tracks but just as heavy in the themes tackled. A real success that launches Predatory Void in force and that makes us want to see what the Belgian band will offer us next! Of course we can’t wait to hear these magnificent songs live!
