#Live : Acyl + Magoyond @ Petit Bain, Paris – 13/05/2023

Direction Paris pour un week-end à Petit Bain! Avec en première soirée une date reportée maintes et maintes fois qui a finalement lieu en ce mois de mai 2023! Les algériens de Acyl (maintenant basés à Paris) sont de passage pour un set très attendu. Ils sont accompagnés de Magoyond et de leur métal monstrueux, et on ne pouvait clairement pas manqué ça vu les derniers albums des deux formations! Direction donc notre bateau favori pour une nouvelle soirée musicale qu’on imagine déjà inoubliable!

Les fans de Magoyond sont venus très nombreux pour soutenir le groupe! Il faut dire que leur dernier album en date, Necropolis, sorti l’an dernier est une véritable usine à tubes! Le groupe arrive sur scène et l’écran en fond de scène nous plonge directement dans l’univers peuplé de monstres, goules et autres zombies. Le public donne de la voix dès le premier titre et ne cessera de tout le set. L’ambiance est électrique et on se dit déjà que on assiste à un show absolument dantesque. Le Mago, en plus d’être un chanteur hors pair est un excellent conteur qui nous narre en chansons les aventures sombres et tortueuses de la Necropolis. Aspic (basse) et Vito (guitare) donnent tout et renforcent la puissance du groupe avec riffs et lignes de basse totalement imparables. « Vegas Zombie », « Le Charnier Des Epouvantails » ou encore le terrifiant « Le Croque Mitaines » sont autant de preuves que Magoyond est un grand groupe, qui a su au fil des années se créer un monde à lui qui le rend unique! Les choeurs du public ne cessent pas et quelques pogos seront lancés tout au long du set des quatre amis. Après un dernier morceau le groupe quitte rapidement la scène avant de revenir pour quelques titres: Le jazzy « Goliath Paradise », la reprise remaniée de « Soyez Prêtes » et bien évidemment le génial « Pouding à l’Arsenic » pour terminer cette prestation en beauté! Le groupe reste quelques instants sur scène pour saluer le public et les remercier d’être venus si nombreux.

Magoyond ont su en une petite heure nous proposer un set digne d’une véritable tête d’affiche! Les morceaux de leur dernier album prennent une véritable dimension supplémentaire en live et on ne peut que vous conseiller d’aller écouter l’album si ça n’est déjà fait et de voir le groupe en live dès que possible! On n’hésitera pas à retourner les voir au plus vite, et on espère un passage dans la métropole lilloise très bientôt! Une performance qui a tenue toutes ses promesses!

On poursuit la soirée après une petite pause bien méritée avec Acyl. Le groupe monte sur scène puis démarre avec « The Evil Depth ». La musique du groupe alterne habilement entre prog, death et groove métal et nous donne envie de profiter de chaque note. Sur les pieds de micro on retrouve accrochés des bendir et des darbukas, instruments traditionnels du nord de l’Afrique. On sent sur chaque chanson les inspirations venues des terres algériennes de la formation et on ne peux que se délecter de ces sons beaucoup trop rares dans le métal. Le medley « Finga / The Death Of Constantine » nous emporte totalement et finit de convaincre le public découvrant le groupe. On sent que les musiciens sont ravis d’être là, et leur set est un véritable plaisir pour nos oreilles. La voix d’Amine est puissante et douce à la fois et vient nous cueillir par une interprétation toujours juste. Les musiciens nous offrent un set d’anthologie qui sera ponctuée par une très belle parenthèse acoustique faisant la part belles aux instruments traditionnels. Les morceaux du groupes subjuguent l’audience pasienne et les applaudissements résument bien l’appréciation générale de la soirée. On repart de plus belle vers des morceaux métal avant une fin en apothéose avec le titre « Creation Chapter 3 : Autonomy » qui clôture un set mené de mais de maîtres par des musiciens qui nous offrent ce qu’ils ont de meilleur avec toujours des messages importants dans les textes.

Acyl est un groupe qui sait se réinventer en live! On retrouve les morceaux qu’on apprécie sur les albums mais toujours dans des version retravaillées pour une expérience toujours plus vivante. Le mélange entre musique traditionnelle algérienne et métal fonctionne à merveille et on espère là aussi revoir le groupe au plus vite, et cette fois-ci en terres lilloises!

Cette première soirée à Petit Bain a tenue toutes ses promesses, avec deux groupes très différents mais ayant à cœur de nous proposer des prestations authentiques mettant en valeurs leurs univers respectifs. On a passé quelques heures inoubliables et on part doucement se reposer pour la vague de décibels du lendemain.

Let’s go to Paris for a weekend at Petit Bain! The first night is a date that has been postponed time and time again, but finally takes place in May 2023! The Algerians of Acyl (now based in Paris) are here for a long awaited set. They are accompanied by Magoyond and their monstrous metal, and we clearly couldn’t miss it considering the last albums of both bands! So let’s head for our favourite boat for a new musical evening that we already imagine to be unforgettable!

Magoyond fans came in great numbers to support the band! Their latest album, Necropolis, released last year, is a real hit factory! The band arrives on stage and the screen at the back of the stage plunges us directly into the universe populated by monsters, ghouls and other zombies. The audience gives its voice from the first track and will not stop during the whole set. The atmosphere is electric and we can already tell that we are witnessing an absolutely Dantesque show. Le Mago, in addition to being an outstanding singer, is an excellent storyteller who tells us in song the dark and tortuous adventures of the Necropolis. Aspic (bass) and Vito (guitar) give it all and reinforce the power of the band with unstoppable riffs and bass lines. « Vegas Zombie », « Le Charnier Des Epouvantails » or the terrifying « Le Croque Mitaines » are all proof that Magoyond is a great band, which has managed to create a world of its own over the years that makes it unique! The audience’s chorus doesn’t stop and some pogos will be launched throughout the four friends’ set. After a last song the band quickly leaves the stage before coming back for a few songs: The jazzy « Goliath Paradise », the reworked cover of « Soyez Prêtes » and of course the brilliant « Pouding à l’Arsenic » to end this performance in beauty! The band stays on stage for a few moments to greet the audience and thank them for coming in such large numbers.

Magoyond were able to offer us a set worthy of a real headliner for a little over an hour! The songs from their latest album take on a real extra dimension live and we can only advise you to go and listen to the album if you haven’t already done so and to see the band live as soon as possible! We will not hesitate to go back to see them as soon as possible, and we hope to see them in Lille very soon! A performance that kept all its promises!

The evening continues after a well-deserved break with Acyl. The band takes the stage and starts with « The Evil Depth ». The band’s music skilfully alternates between prog, death and groove metal and makes us want to enjoy every note. On the microphone stands we find bendir and darbukas, traditional instruments from North Africa. You can feel on each song the inspirations coming from the Algerian lands of the band and you can only enjoy these sounds that are far too rare in metal. The medley « Finga / The Death Of Constantine » totally carries us away and finishes convincing the audience discovering the band. We can feel that the musicians are delighted to be here, and their set is a real pleasure for our ears. Amine‘s voice is powerful and soft at the same time, and his interpretation is always right. The musicians offer us an anthology set which will be punctuated by a beautiful acoustic interlude with traditional instruments. The band’s songs captivate the Pasian audience and the applause sums up the general appreciation of the evening. We go back to metal tracks before an apotheosis ending with the title « Creation Chapter 3: Autonomy » which closes a set led by musicians who offer us their best with always important messages in the lyrics.

Acyl is a band that knows how to reinvent itself live! We find the songs that we appreciate on the albums but always in reworked versions for an ever more lively experience. The mix between traditional Algerian music and metal works wonderfully and we hope to see the band again as soon as possible, and this time in Lille!

This first evening at Petit Bain kept all its promises, with two very different bands who were keen to offer us authentic performances highlighting their respective worlds. We spent a few unforgettable hours and we’re going to take it easy for the next day’s wave of decibels.
