On rentre dans la saison où le post rock est roi avec Le Dunk Festival, Le Post In Paris et une avalanche de concerts post un peu partout en France. Pour commencer au mieux cette belle saison, il était temps pour nous d’enfin voir en live And So I Watch You From Afar, groupe qui a depuis longtemps pris une place de choix dans nos playlists. Pour les accompagner sur la scène du Grand Mix de Tourcoing, ils ont choisi A Burial At Sea, duo irlandais qui a surpris tout le monde avec un premier album de grande qualité en 2020. On ne pouvait manquer ça et on s’est donc donné rendez-vous dans le club de la salle de Tourcoing pour une soirée qui s’annonce magique!

Après des petits soucis de bouchons sur la route entre Amsterdam et la salle et un soundcheck express, les irlandais de A Burial At Sea montent sur la scène dans un club déjà très bien rempli. Le duo se transforme en quitet en live, puisque sur album seuls deux musiciens s’occupent de tous les instruments. En quelques secondes le groupe va nous happer dans un post rock magistral tinté de jazz porté par un son parfait! Un exploit quand on sait le temps qu’ils ont eu pour se préparer. La présence de la trompette apporte un son qu’on a moins l’habitude d’entendre et qui donne un vrai plus aux compositions des irlandais. Le public se laisse transporter par la musique magistrale du groupe, qui a clairement déjà de très belles compositions à son actif. Sur le morceau « Lightning Blanket » les musiciens se mettent à chanter a capella un refrain entêtant qu’on finira tous par chanter avec eux. Un moment suspendu dans le temps qui nous laisse sans voix et très émus. Le set de A Burial At Sea se termine avec un morceau, une fois encore parfaitement interprété qui nous laisse prendre toute la mesure du talent des musiciens sur scène. On se souviendra longtemps de cette prestation de A Burial At Sea et on espère les revoir très rapidement en tête d’affiche dans la région!

La soirée se poursuit avec le groupe tant attendu And So I Watch You From Afar (qu’on raccourcira en ASIWYFA pour des raisons de simplicité) ! La formation arrive au son de « Three Triangles » et nous laisse bouche bée dès les premières notes. Les musiciens ont au fil des années acquis une réputation de proposer des concerts mêlant morceaux majestueux et instants de bravoure avec un brio sans limite. En quelques minutes, ils réussissent à nous prouver que cet avis général n’est pas volé! On profite de chaque note comme si on voulait qu’elles durent toujours. Le groupe nous fait voyager à travers ses albums et nous propose même une nouvelle chanson qui ravira les fans présents. Le public s’en donne à cœur joie sur les morceaux les plus entraînants avec même quelques slams! Et on voit que les musiciens adorent nous voir donner autant d’énergie sur leur set. Quel plaisir d’entendre en live des morceaux comme « A Beacon, A Compass, An Anchor » ou « Search : Party : Animal » qui prennent une dimension folle sur scène. La communion entre le groupe et son public est indéniable et on sent que cette date restera dans les anales du Grand Mix. Après le bien nommé « Set Guitars To Kill », le groupe termine son set avec un « Big Thinks Do Remarkable » d’anthologie accueilli comme il se doit par tous les fans. Puis après un rappel bien mérité, ils reviennent pour une dernière claque derrière la nuque avec « VIII Jettsion », qui clôt cette soirée en beauté!

ASIWYFA ont proposé ce soir ce que le post rock peut donner de meilleur. Les musiciens tous en forme olympique ont fait voyager nos esprits dans un monde majestueux fait de notes et d’images encrées en nous à jamais. Une date comme on les aime où les émotions sont fortes et restent en nous longtemps après la fin du concert. On espère avoir le droit à d’autres dates de ce calibre dans la belle salle du Grand Mix, et toujours avec un public aussi à l’écoute et prêt à tout donner !

We’re entering the season where post rock is king with Dunk Festival, Le Post In Paris and an avalanche of post concerts all over France. To start off this beautiful season, it was time for us to finally see And So I Watch You From Afar live, a band that has long since taken a special place in our playlists. To accompany them on stage at the Grand Mix in Tourcoing, they chose A Burial At Sea, an Irish duo who surprised everyone with a first album of great quality in 2020. We couldn’t miss it and so we decided to meet in the club of the Tourcoing venue for an evening that promises to be magical!

After some minor traffic jams on the way from Amsterdam to the venue and an express soundcheck, the Irish band A Burial At Sea took to the stage in an already very full club. The duo turns into a live quintet, since on the album only two musicians play all the instruments. In a few seconds, the band is going to take us into a masterful post rock tinged with jazz carried by a perfect sound! A feat when you know how much time they had to prepare. The presence of the trumpet brings a sound that we are less used to hearing and that gives a real plus to the Irishmen’s compositions. The audience is transported by the band’s masterful music, which clearly already has some great compositions to its credit. On the track « Lightning Blanket » the musicians start to sing a capella a heady chorus that we all end up singing with them. A moment suspended in time that leaves us speechless and very moved. A Burial At Sea‘s set ends with a song, once again perfectly interpreted, which lets us take the full measure of the musicians’ talent on stage. We will remember this performance of A Burial At Sea for a long time and we hope to see them again very soon as a headliner in the region!

The evening continues with the long awaited band And So I Watch You From Afar (shortened to ASIWYFA for simplicity’s sake)! The band arrives to the sound of « Three Triangles » and leaves us speechless from the first notes. Over the years, the musicians have acquired a reputation for offering concerts mixing majestic pieces and moments of bravery with unlimited brilliance. In a few minutes they succeed in proving that this general opinion is not stolen! We enjoy every note as if we wanted them to last forever. The band takes us on a journey through their albums and even offers us a new song that will delight the fans present. The audience has a great time on the most catchy songs with even some slams! And we can see that the musicians love to see us give so much energy to their set. What a pleasure to hear live tracks like « A Beacon, A Compass, An Anchor » or « Search : Party : Animal » which take a crazy dimension on stage. The communion between the band and their audience is undeniable and we feel that this date will remain in the Grand Mix’s annals. After the aptly named « Set Guitars To Kill », the band ends their set with a great « Big Thinks Do Remarkable », which is welcomed as it should be by all the fans. Then after a well-deserved encore, they come back for a last slap on the back of the neck with « VIII Jettsion », which closes this evening in beauty!

ASIWYFA offered tonight the best that post rock can give. The musicians, all in Olympic form, took our minds on a journey into a majestic world made of notes and images that are engraved in us forever. A date like we like them where emotions are strong and remain in us long after the end of the concert. We hope to have the right to other dates of this calibre in the beautiful Grand Mix venue, and always with an audience that is so attentive and ready to give everything!
