En 2019, je découvrais The Raven Age avec l’album Conspiracy, et le coup de cœur fut instantané, et les lives du groupe ont confirmé que leur musique résonnait en moi! En pleine tournée avec Iron Maiden, le groupe de Georges Harris nous présente son troisième album! Intitulé Blood Omen, il est disponible via Music For Nations / Sony Music. Que nous réserve cette nouvelle sortie du groupe de heavy anglais?

L’ambiance se pose avec « Changing Of The Guard » et sa guitare acoustique douce et des orchestrations sombres et intrigantes. On sent que le groupe veux directement nous plonger dans l’univers de ce nouvel album! « Parasite » arrive en suite et nous rappelle pourquoi ce groupe marque autant son auditeur: des guitares puissantes portées par George Harris et le nouvellement arrivé Tommy Gentry. La voix de Matt James rejoint vite la partie, et ce dernier nous montre toute l’étendue de ses capacités. L’énergie qui se dégage de la musique des anglais est toujours aussi audible et le titre est de suite imprimé dans ma tête comme un futur classique de la formation. Les morceaux suivants confirment que le groupe sait allier l’héritage du heavy britannique avec un son résolument moderne qui n’a aucun mal à faire bouger les foules. Sur « Essence Of Time » on peut profiter du jeu de batterie millimétré de Jai Patel, qui ne cesse de surprendre d’album en album! Aucun doute que ce moreau aussi sera repris en chœur par les fans sur les prochains concerts du groupe!
Le côté sombre et menaçant de la pochette tranche avec la positivité qui se dégage des compositions de cet album, je vous défie de ne pas headbanger sur les solos dantesques de cette nouvelle sortie des anglais. « Forgive & Forget », un des single de cet album, que je vous laisserai découvrir en fin d’article, laisse toute la place à Matt Cox pour nous poser ses lignes de basse et nous donner envie de bouger toujours plus dans notre salon. La cohésion entre les musiciens est largement audible tout au long de l’album et chaque morceau nous prouve qu’ils ont envie de faire de ce groupe un des futurs grands groupes de la scène heavy. La guitare et les ambiances du début reviennent sur « The Journey », cette fois-ci accompagnées de la voix de Matt James. Les riffs reprennent vite leurs droits pour une composition qui me touche particulièrement. En fin d’album « Tears Of Stone » nous donne une dernière occasion de profiter des talents combinés des cinq musiciens pour un titre qui reste comme un des plus forts de cet album.
Avec Blood Omen, The Raven Age s’imposent un peu plus dans cette nouvelle scène heavy britannique qu’on aime tant. L’album confirme que la formation a trouvé le son qui lui est propre et poursuit dans cette trajectoire. L’étape du troisième album est passée avec brio et donne envie de retrouver le groupe en live au plus vite!

In 2019, I discovered The Raven Age with the album Conspiracy, and I fell in love instantly, and the band’s live shows confirmed that their music resonated with me! In the midst of a tour with Iron Maiden, George Harris’s band present their third album! Entitled Blood Omen, it’s available via Music For Nations / Sony Music. What does this new release from the English heavy band have in store for us?
The mood is set by « Changing Of The Guard », with its gentle acoustic guitar and dark, intriguing orchestrations. You can feel that the band want to plunge you straight into the world of this new album! « Parasite » comes next and reminds us why this band makes such an impression on listeners: powerful guitars driven by George Harris and newcomer Tommy Gentry. Matt James‘ voice soon joins in, and he shows us the full extent of his abilities. The energy that emanates from the English band’s music is as audible as ever, and the track is immediately imprinted in my head as a future classic from the band. The following tracks confirm that the band know how to combine the heritage of British heavy metal with a resolutely modern sound that has no trouble getting crowds moving. On ‘Essence Of Time’ we can enjoy Jai Patel‘s meticulous drumming, which never ceases to amaze from album to album! There’s no doubt that this song, too, will be taken up in chorus by fans at the band’s forthcoming concerts!
The dark and menacing side of the cover contrasts with the positivity that emanates from the compositions on this album, and I defy you not to headbang to the dantesque solos on this new release by the English band. « Forgive & Forget », one of the album’s singles, which I’ll let you discover at the end of this article, leaves plenty of room for Matt Cox to lay down his bass lines and make us want to move more and more in our living rooms. The cohesion between the musicians is clearly audible throughout the album, and each track proves that they are determined to make this band one of the future greats of the heavy metal scene. The guitar and ambience of the beginning return on ‘The Journey’, this time accompanied by Matt James‘ vocals. The riffs soon take over again for a composition that particularly moved me. At the end of the album, « Tears Of Stone » gives us one last opportunity to enjoy the combined talents of the five musicians on a track that remains one of the strongest on this album.
With Blood Omen, The Raven Age have established themselves a little more firmly in the new British heavy scene that we love so much. The album confirms that the band have found their own sound and are continuing along that path. They’ve passed the third album stage with flying colours, and we can’t wait to see them live again!
