Earthbong, groupe allemand de doom / bong metal arrive cette année avec la fin de sa trilogie d’albums commencée 2018 et poursuivie en 2021. Cette troisième partie, intitulée Church Of Bong, sera disponible le 25 août prochain via Black Farm Records et Evil Noise Recordings. Cette trilogie digne de la Création prend donc fin ici avec un album de deux titres! On se met dans l’ambiance et on se prépare pour se pèlerinage d’un genre nouveau.

On commence avec un son strident avant que la lourde lenteur des guitares viennent nous frapper. Claas (Ogo) Ogorek a décidé de ne rien laisser au hasard et nous donne plonge directement dans le chemin embrumé vers l’Eglise du Bong. Le voyage seront long et tortueux mais on finit par y arriver aidés par la batterie et la basse qui nous portent par leur puissance. La voix de Mersel (Selly) Nuhiji nous accueille avec sa voix habitée et nous propose de commencer le rite initiatique. Impossible de ne pas être impressionné par la lourdeur des riffs et rythmiques proposées ici. Mersel officie aussi à la basse et nous montre que l’instrument peut être réglé toujours plus bas pour renforcer toujours plus cette impression de trip hallucinatoire. Tout cela nous emporte encore de longues minutes avant que l’Eglise nous rejette dans la nature après cette expérience unique en son genre. Vient ensuite la suite du voyage dans « Dies Bongrae » et sa batterie lente jouée par un Thomas (Tommy) Handschick au sommet de sa forme. Là aussi le chemin est semé d’embuche mais les émanations olfactives et une voix imposante guident notre chemin vers de nouveaux horizons. Les différents riffs et rythmiques du morceau reflètent parfaitement l’histoire qui nous ai contée ici. Là aussi, la créativité musicale du trio nous montre l’envie de nous faire vivre une aventure unique, où le bong serait notre salut à tous. Et c’est clairement réussi ! L’aventure est totale est chaque note laisse aux trois musiciens toute l’occasion de nous surprendre de minute en minute. N’y voyez pas des morceaux longs mais bien des histoires qui méritent tout à fait d’être contées. L’envie d’abandonner nos vies tristes et mornes pour ce lieu unique est bien présente. Est-ce le signe d’un album très réussi? Oui, définitivement!

Avec Church Of Bong, les allemands de Earthbong nous montrent ce qu’ils ont encore de quoi nous  surprendre toujours plus. L’album est une véritable réussite qui sera plaire à tout amateur de doom stoner ainsi qu’à des plus novices prêts à se plonger dans un genre musical bien particulier. Le trio a réussi son coup avec brio et on a qu’une hâte les retrouver en live au plus vite!

German doom / bong metal band Earthbong arrive this year with the end of their trilogy of albums begun in 2018 and continued in 2021. This third part, entitled Church Of Bong, will be available on 25 August via Black Farm Records and Evil Noise Recordings. This trilogy worthy of Creation comes to an end here with a two-track album! Let’s get in the mood and get ready for this new kind of pilgrimage.

We start with a strident sound before the heavy slowness of the guitars hits us. Claas (Ogo) Ogorek has decided not to leave anything to chance and plunges us straight into the misty path towards the Church of Bong. The journey is long and tortuous, but we eventually get there, aided by the powerful drums and bass. The voice of Mersel (Selly) Nuhiji welcomes us with its inhabited voice and invites us to begin the initiation rite. It’s impossible not to be impressed by the sheer weight of the riffs and rhythms on offer here. Mersel also plays bass, showing us that the instrument can be set ever lower to reinforce the impression of a hallucinatory trip. We’re carried away for several long minutes before the Church sends us back to nature after this unique experience. Then comes the next part of the journey in ‘Dies Bongrae’ and its slow drums played by Thomas (Tommy) Handschick at the top of his form. Here too the path is strewn with pitfalls, but the olfactory emanations and imposing vocals guide our way towards new horizons. The different riffs and rhythms of the track perfectly reflect the story being told here. Here too, the trio’s musical creativity shows their desire to take us on a unique adventure, where the bong is our salvation. And it’s clearly a success! The adventure is total and every note gives the three musicians plenty of opportunity to surprise us from minute to minute. Don’t think of them as long songs, but as stories that deserve to be told. The desire to abandon our sad and dreary lives for this unique place is very much present. Is this the sign of a very successful album? Yes, definitely!

With Church Of Bong, the Germans from Earthbong show us that they still have what it takes to surprise us more and more. The album is a real success that will appeal to all fans of stoner doom, as well as to the more novice fans ready to immerse themselves in this very special musical genre. The trio have pulled it off brilliantly, and we can’t wait to see them live again!
