Il y a cinq ans, Tesseract nous proposaient l’excellent Sonder, puis un projet live intitulé Portals en 2021. Cette année le groupe anglais est prêt à sortir son nouvel album studio. Intitulé War Of Being, il racontant l’histoire des êtres Ex et El transportés dans The Strangeland face à l’entité qui deviendra leur ennemie, Fear. Cette nouvelle sortie sera disponible le 15 septembre via Kscope, et nous allons dès maintenant nous y plonger.

Dès les cris de Amos Williams et sa ligne de basse imparable en ouverture de « Natural Disaster », on sait qu’on est parti pour une nouvelle aventure musicale dont seul les anglais ont le secret. Le morceau nous dévoile les prémices de l’histoire et nous y plonge tête la première. Musicalement le groupe innove toujours avec ce son cristallin auquel ils nous ont habitués d’années en années. Sur « Echoes » c’est la batterie de Jay Postones qui impressionne et nous emporte. Comment ne pas vous parler aussi de la voix de Daniel Tompkins, qui ne cesse de nous subjuguer d’années en années. Les émotions des textes passent sans effort et laissent nos esprits vagabonder dans cette ensemble musical déjà si riche.

Le prog rock / djent des anglais a toujours voulu nous amener plus loin qu’une simple écoute d’album, avec toujours des projets travaillés jusqu’à qu’ils en deviennent des concepts à part entière. Une fois encore le groupe réussi parfaitement à renouveler la formule avec un son varié alternant habillement moment de bravoure et instants plus doux. Mais toujours avec cette incroyable niveau technique qui transparait de chaque note. On vous laisse vous immerger dans ligne de basse stratosphérique de « The Grey » ou encore dans les outros très travaillées de chaque titre, véritables liens entre les différentes compositions.

Tout au long de l’album les guitares de Acle Kahney et de James Monteith nous transportent dans cette aventure en mêlant sonorités douces et riffs endiablés. Le mélange est homogène et laisse aux deux guitaristes un vrai terrain d’expression. En milieu d’album arrive le morceau titre. Du haut de ses 11 minutes, on y voit là tout le talent de la formation pour nous compter des histoires musicales toujours plus passionnantes. Véritable pièce maîtresse de l’album, les musiciens y démontrent là toute leur envie de nous empoter dans un monde sombre et dans les tribulations de leurs personnages. Un bonheur d’écriture et d’écoute qui nous laisse sans voix!

Les sonorités plus douces de « Sirens » cachent la puissance de « Sacrifice », qui vient clore cet album avec force. Encore une fois le groupe ne se répète jamais, et nous narre la fin de son histoire avec une composition forte qui nous laisse avec de belles étoiles dans les yeux, et une envie de se replonger encore et encore dans cette aventure musicale.

 

War Of Being est une nouvelle masterclass proposée par Tesseract! Leur musique est enivrante de variations, de compositions toutes plus créatives les unes que les autres. Le tout servi par une production magistrale et une ambiance à nulle autre pareil. Un album à mettre entre toute les mains, et qui saura plaire aux auditeurs prêts au voyage. On a hâte de retrouver le groupe sur sa tournée européenne en début d’année prochaine!

Five years ago, Tesseract brought us the excellent Sonder, followed by a live project entitled Portals in 2021. This year, the English band are ready to release their new studio album. Entitled War Of Being, it tells the story of the beings Ex and El transported to The Strangeland to face the entity that will become their enemy, Fear. From the screams of Amos Williams and his unstoppable bass line at the opening of « Natural Disaster », we know we’re in for a new musical adventure that only the English have the secret to. The track reveals the beginnings of the story and plunges us in head first. Musically, the band are still innovating with the crystalline sound we’ve come to expect from them over the years. On ‘Echoes’ it’s Jay Postones‘ drums that impress and carry us away. It’s hard not to mention Daniel Tompkins‘ voice, which continues to captivate us year after year. The emotions of the lyrics flow effortlessly, leaving our minds wandering in this already rich musical ensemble.

The English’ band’s prog rock / djent band have always wanted to take us further than just listening to an album, with projects that are worked on until they become concepts in their own right. Once again, the band have succeeded in renewing the formula with a varied sound that skilfully alternates between bravura moments and softer moments. But always with the same incredible technical level shining through every note. We’ll let you immerse yourself in the stratospheric bass line of ‘The Grey’, or in the finely crafted outros of each track, real links between the different compositions.

Throughout the album, the guitars of Acle Kahney and James Monteith transport us in this adventure, blending soft tones and frenzied riffs. The blend is seamless, giving the two guitarists plenty of room to express themselves. In the middle of the album comes the title track. At 11 minutes long, it showcases the band’s talent for telling ever more exciting musical stories. It’s the real centrepiece of the album, with the musicians demonstrating their desire to plunge us into a dark world and the tribulations of their characters. A joy of writing and listening that leaves us speechless!

The softer tones of « Sirens » hide the raw power of « Sacrifice », which brings the album to a powerful close. Once again, the band never repeat themselves, and tell us the end of their story with a powerful composition that leaves us with stars in our eyes, and a desire to immerse ourselves again and again in this musical adventure.

 

War Of Being is a new masterclass from Tesseract! Their music is intoxicating with variations and compositions, each more creative than the last. All served up by masterful production and an atmosphere like no other. This is an album for everyone, and one that will appeal to listeners ready for a journey. We can’t wait to see the band on their European tour early next year!
