Volkor X, one man band français sort cette année son troisième album. Servant de préquel à ses deux albums précédent, The Loop, s’annonce comme un voyage musical entre synthwave et post métal. Pour cet album, l’artiste s’est entouré de la comédienne canadienne Becky Shrimpton pour interpréter le personnage de la spationaute Syd ainsi que de l’auteur britannique Ben Dadds. L’album sera disponible dès le 20 octobre. Direction l’espace pour une aventure musicale unique!

L’intro « Ignition » nous plonge dans l’univers musical de l’artiste français avec un son synthwave prenant dès les premiers instants. « Ascendence » nous montre pour la première fois cette fusion entre le ce genre musical et le post métal. Les parties de batterie sont excellentes et montrent que ce voyage sera aussi puissant qu’envoutant. Les parties narratives sont accompagnées de claviers utilisés comme bande originale de l’histoire qui nous est narrée. On sent que Volkor X veut nous transporter loin et nous faire réfléchir également avec cette nouvelle sortie, qui évoque le questionnement du personnage principal sur sa propre mortalité. La science fiction est très présente, autant dans la musique que dans les dialogues et on a rapidement l’impression d’être dans un véritable film servi par un casting vocal et musical de choix. On vous laisse vous perdre dans les sonorités aériennes de « Float » ou dans celles plus entrainantes de « Adrift ». Chaque morceau correspond parfaitement à son titre, ils ont tous cette folle continuité tout en ayant chacun une identité véritablement forte. Plus on avance dans l’album plus on se dit que l’aventure proposé par le musicien français est une des plus étonnantes qu’on a pu vivre cette année. On sent une véritable envie de transmettre à l’auditeur une musique aventureuse pleine de rebondissements et toujours avec cette histoire parfaitement racontée en toile de fond. Sur le dernier titre, qui clôt cette magnifique histoire musicale, on retrouve un solo de guitare de Sylvain Coudret, guitariste de Soilwork. Il vient ajouter son talent à celui de Volkor X pour un final en apothéose qui nous laisse avec l’envie de foncer découvrir les précédents albums de l’artiste.

Volkor X réussit avec The Loop un véritable tour de force! Il nous narre une histoire puissante en musique, avec des compositions toutes plus travaillées et prenantes les unes que les autres. La synthwave mêlée à du post métal proposée ici est d’une qualité folle qui nous laisse véritablement sans voix. On va réécouter cet album longtemps en se disant qu’une fois encore la France a de très belles pépites cachées qui ne demandent qu’à être découvertes.

French one-man band Volkor X is releasing his third album this year. Serving as a prequel to his two previous albums, The Loop promises to be a musical journey between synthwave and post-metal. For this album, the artist has teamed up with Canadian actress Becky Shrimpton to play the character of the spacewoman Syd, as well as British author Ben Dadds. The intro, « Ignition », plunges us into the French artist’s musical universe, with a synthwave sound that takes us right from the start. « Ascendence » shows us for the first time the fusion between this musical genre and post-metal. The drum parts are excellent and show that this journey will be as powerful as it is bewitching. The narrative parts are accompanied by keyboards used as a soundtrack to the story being told. You can feel that Volkor X wants to take us far away and make us think with this new release, which evokes the main character’s questioning of his own mortality. The science fiction is very much in evidence, both in the music and the dialogue, and you quickly get the impression that you’re in a real film served up by a first-rate vocal and musical cast. We’ll let you lose yourself in the airy tones of « Float » or the more upbeat « Adrift ». Each track corresponds perfectly to its title, they all have this crazy continuity while each having a truly strong identity. The further you get into the album, the more you realise that the adventure proposed by the French musician is one of the most astonishing we’ve experienced this year. There’s a real desire to convey to the listener an adventurous music full of twists and turns, always with the story perfectly told in the background. The final track, which brings this magnificent musical story to a close, features a guitar solo by Sylvain Coudret, guitarist in Soilwork. He adds his talent to that of Volkor X‘s for a climactic finale that leaves us wanting to rush out and discover the artist’s previous albums.

Volkor X has pulled off a real tour de force with The Loop! He tells us a powerful story in music, with compositions that are each more polished and engaging than the last. The synthwave mixed with post-metal here is of a quality that leaves you speechless. We’ll be listening to this album for a long time, telling ourselves that once again France has some wonderful hidden gems just waiting to be discovered.
