Pendant qu’une partie de l’équipe est au concert de Cavalera Conspiracy et qu’une autre est à Paris pour voir Stray From The Path, nous nous rendons après notre pèlerinage marseillais au Grand Mix pour un concert qu’on ne pouvait pas manquer! 1000 kilomètres avalés pour retrouver trois artistes qu’on adore, il en fallait plus pour nous faire peur. Ce soir c’est Årabrot, Jaye Jayle en solo et Karin Park qui viendront habiter la scène club de la salle tourquennoise. Trois artistes Pelagic Records sur la même soirée, pour nous c’est un rêve éveillé. Nous voilà dans la salle à 18h tapantes pour profiter à fond de cette soirée organisée par Cerbère Coryphée qui s’annonce légendaire.

On commence avec Karin Park qui se présente à nous entourée de ses claviers. D’entrée la musicienne suédoise nous envoûte totalement avec ses morceaux. il faut dire que la chanteuse habite carrément chaque phrase tout en dansant et en jouant. On se demande rapidement comment elle fait pour quasiment tout jouer sans regarder ce qu’elle fait! Les morceaux comme « Tokyo By Night » sont majestueux à entendre en live et on ne boude clairement pas notre plaisir. En fin de set l’artiste, qu’on retrouvera très vite avec Årabrot nous offre une prestation continue de plusieurs de ses morceaux phares, le tout renforcé par des transitions très travaillées. La synth pop de Karin Park est un bonheur pour les oreilles, et entendre nos morceaux favoris a fait de ce set un moment que nous ne sommes pas prêts d’oublier!

On continue très rapidement avec Jaye Jayle qui se présente à nous en solo et illuminé d’une lumière bleuté de toute beauté. Son album Don’t Let Your Love Life Get You Down nous avait bluffé un peu plus tôt cette année, et nous sommes ravis de redécouvrir certains de ces morceaux du musicien américain dans une forme inédite. La chaleur de sa guitare contraste avec les textes assez tristes joués ce soir. Mais les émotions passent sans effort et on se laisse transporter dans l’univers sombre du musicien du Kentucky. Entre deux titres, il nous comptera une histoire familiale sombre sous fond d’addiction à l’héroïne, base pour une des morceaux les plus puissants du set! Evan Patterson (véritable identité de Jaye Jayle) est un musicien de grand talent qui nous envoûtera de la première à la dernière seconde. Un pur plaisir qu’on a hâte de redécouvrir en version full band!

Retour de Karin Park sur scène toujours entourée de ses claviers, mais cette fois-ci accompagnée par Kjetil Nernes au chant et à la guitare et de leur batteur live. Le duo Årabrot nous présente ce soir son album Of Darkness And Light sorti le mois dernier et on attendait ça avec la plus grande des impatiences! Dès le premier titre de la soirée, on se sent plongé dans l’univers si unique du duo norvégien. La grande croix lumineuse placée en fond de scène apporte un véritable plus à l’atmosphère religieuse du set! On se croirait plongé dans un culte où nos prêcheurs favoris sont les deux musiciens. Kjetil est dans une forme olympique et mêle parfaitement ses parties de guitare diablement rock avec son chant habité qui ne laisse personne de marbre dans la salle. « We Want Blood » ou encore « Horrors Of  The Past » prennent une toute autre dimension en live. On est également ravi de retrouver des titres des albums précédents de la formation, titres qui nous font toujours autant d’effet tant ils sont enveloppés d’une aura mystérieuse. Karin nous livre une prestation tout aussi impressionnante que lors de son set solo, le tout dans une tenue immaculée qui tranche avec son habit précédent. Plus le set passe plus l’ambiance est électrique, le public répondant aux sollicitations des deux musiciens avec entrain. Petit à petit le show monte en puissance et vers la fin du set Karin se jettera dans le public pour un petit tour de slam portée par le public. Le concert se termine comme il a commencé par une performance incroyable de chaque musicien présent sur scène, et dans une dernière avalanche de riffs et claviers endiablés.

On ne pouvait rêver meilleure soirée que celle offerte par Årabrot , Jaye Jayle et Karin Park! Il fallait clairement être au Grand Mix en ce dimanche pour une soirée de rock sous toutes ses formes. Les trois artistes nous ont offert leur meilleur dans une ambiance absolument excellente. On repart de la salle heureux et impatients de retrouver tous ces grands mucien.ne.s au plus vite!

While some of the team are at the Cavalera Conspiracy concert and others are in Paris to see Stray From The Path, we’re heading to the Grand Mix after our pilgrimage to Marseille for a concert we just couldn’t miss! Having travelled 1,000 kilometres to catch up with three artists we adore, we couldn’t have been more scared. Tonight, Årabrot, Jaye Jayle solo and Karin Park will take to the club stage at the Tourquennes venue. Three Pelagic Records artists on the same night is a dream come true for us. We’re in the venue at 6pm sharp to make the most of what promises to be a legendary evening organised by Cerbère Coryphée.

We start with Karin Park, surrounded by her keyboards. From the outset, the Swedish musician totally captivated us with her songs. It has to be said that the singer inhabits every phrase while dancing and playing. You quickly wonder how she manages to play almost everything without looking at what she’s doing! Songs like « Tokyo By Night » are majestic to hear live, and we’re clearly not going to sulk. At the end of the set, the artist, who will be back with Årabrot very soon, gives us a continuous performance of several of her key tracks, enhanced by some very well-crafted transitions. Karin Park‘s synth pop is a joy to listen to, and hearing our favourite tracks made this set one we won’t soon forget!

We continue very quickly with Jaye Jayle, who presents himself to us solo and illuminated by a beautiful bluish light. His album Don’t Let Your Love Life Get You Down blew us away earlier this year, and we’re delighted to rediscover some of the American musician’s songs in a new form. The warmth of his guitar contrasts with the rather sad lyrics played tonight. But the emotions come through effortlessly, and you’re transported into the dark world of this musician from Kentucky. In between songs, he recounts a dark family story set against a backdrop of heroin addiction, the basis for one of the most powerful tracks of the set! Evan Patterson (Jaye Jayle’s real name) is a hugely talented musician who will have us spellbound from the first to the last second. A pure pleasure that we can’t wait to rediscover in a full band version!

Karin Park returns to the stage, still surrounded by her keyboards, but this time accompanied by Kjetil Nernes on vocals and guitar and their live drummer. Tonight, the Årabrot duo present their album Of Darkness And Light, released last month, and we’ve been looking forward to it with great anticipation! From the very first track of the evening, you feel immersed in the Norwegian duo’s unique universe. The large illuminated cross at the back of the stage adds a real plus to the religious atmosphere of the set! You’d think you were in a cult, with the two musicians as your favourite preachers. Kjetil is in top form, perfectly blending his devilishly rocking guitar parts with his inhabited vocals, which leave no-one in the room unmoved. « We Want Blood » and « Horrors Of The Past » take on a whole new dimension live. We’re also delighted to find tracks from the band’s previous albums, which still have such an effect on us, as they are shrouded in a mysterious aura. Karin‘s performance was every bit as impressive as her solo set, and she wore an immaculate outfit in stark contrast to her previous outfit. The longer the set went on, the more electric the atmosphere, with the audience responding to the two musicians’ requests with gusto.  The show gradually built up momentum, and towards the end of the set Karin threw herself into the audience for a little slam, carried along by the crowd. The concert ends as it began, with an incredible performance from every musician on stage, and a final avalanche of furious riffs and keyboards.

We couldn’t have asked for a better evening than the one put on by Årabrot, Jaye Jayle and Karin Park! You clearly had to be at Le Grand Mix on Sunday for an evening of rock in all its forms. The three artists gave us their very best in an absolutely excellent atmosphere. We left the venue happy and impatient to see all these great musicians again as soon as possible!
