Dirty Fonzy, qui arrivent tout doucement sur leurs 20 ans de carrière, sortent en ce 8 décembre un nouvel opus intitulé Full Speed Ahead chez Kicking Records. Treize nouveaux titres de punk rock auquel Dirty Fonzy ont apporté diverses influences au fil des années, pour le plus grand bonheur de nos oreilles. Le groupe d’Albi nous annonce un album plus ambitieux, les ayant amené à sortir de leur zone de confort, mais toujours dans la lignée de ce qu’ils ont toujours su nous transmettre. Allons donc jeter une oreille à tout cela !

On démarre fort l’écoute avec “Full Speed Ahead” dont les premières lignes de guitares nous donnent déjà envie de bouger, montant tout doucement en puissance avec l’arrivée de la batterie. L’intro est grandiose laissant place à des « whohoho » dont on se passerait difficilement dans le punk rock. On entend des influences qui tendent vers le hard rock, mais amenées dans l’univers punk rock. Le groupe nous demande ainsi si nous sommes prêts à foncer et à perdre le contrôle ? La réponse est oui et c’est parti pour le temps d’un album ! Certains titres se font plus sérieux dans les sujets abordés comme « Running out of time » qui parle du regard des autres face aux personnes toujours en retard, toujours dissipées… mais de finalement en prendre son parti et de vivre sa vie. Puis d’autres titres nous ramènent à des émotions beaucoup plus festives comme « Beervengers », dont vous aurez compris le thème ! Et si ce n’est pas le cas, le clip particulièrement déjanté est déjà sorti ! On retrouve le côté très mélancolique du punk rock avec « Things We’ve Never Said ». Juste après celui-ci on enchaine avec « Spooky Dance », titre dont le début semble complètement barré, de cette folie douce qu’on apprécie beaucoup et amenant une nouvelle sonorité à cet album déjà bien riche !

« Rollercoaster » porte parfaitement son nom, nous faisant faire les montagnes russes entre sentiments d’introspection nostalgique et envie de tout casser, de faire du bruit… Le refrain est particulièrement efficace et la mélodie entraînante est remarquable. L’album se referme sur « Better Days », seul titre s’adressant directement à l’auditeur, avec l’utilisation de « You » là où les autres morceaux sont écrits à la première personne du singulier ou du pluriel. Il clôture parfaitement cet opus dans l’esprit du punk rock du groupe entre mélodie et sentiments, nous amenant toujours dans un esprit de franche camaraderie. On a hâte de vivre tout cela avec Dirty Fonzy qu’on espère voir rapidement défendre son album un peu partout !

Dirty Fonzy nous offrent en cette fin d’année 2023 treize titres efficaces, abordant des sujets variés, tantôt festifs, tantôt plus sérieux voire personnels. Les diverses influences amenées sur cet opus rendent chaque piste unique tout en gardant une belle unité sur l’ensemble de l’écoute. Un beau cadeau à l’approche des fêtes !

Dirty Fonzy, who are slowly coming to the end of their 20-year career, are releasing a new album entitled Full Speed Ahead on Kicking Records on 8 December. Thirteen new tracks of punk rock to which Dirty Fonzy have brought various influences over the years, to the delight of our ears. The band from Albi are announcing a more ambitious album, which has taken them out of their comfort zone, but still in line with what they’ve always been able to convey. So let’s have a listen!

« Full Speed Ahead » gets us off to a strong start, with the opening guitar lines already making us want to get moving, then slowly building in power with the arrival of the drums. The intro is grandiose, giving way to « whohoho’s » that would be hard to do without in punk rock. We hear influences that tend towards hard rock, but brought into the punk rock universe. So the band is asking us if we’re ready to go for it and lose control? The answer is yes, and off we go for the duration of an album! Some tracks take a more serious approach, such as ‘Running out of time’, which talks about the way other people look at people who are always late, always dissipated… but in the end you have to take it on board and live your life. Other tracks take us back to more festive emotions, like « Beervengers », whose theme you’ll have gathered by now! And if you haven’t, the particularly crazy clip has already been released! We return to the melancholy side of punk rock with ‘Things We’ve Never Said’. Just after that, we move on to ‘Spooky Dance’, a track whose beginning seems completely mad, with the kind of gentle madness we really appreciate, bringing a new sound to this already rich album!

« Rollercoaster » lives up to its name, taking us on a rollercoaster ride between nostalgic introspection and the desire to smash things up and make noise… The chorus is particularly effective and the catchy melody is remarkable. The album closes with ‘Better Days’, the only track to address the listener directly, using ‘You’ where the other tracks are written in the first person singular or plural. It brings this opus to a perfect close in the band’s punk rock spirit of melody and sentiment, always bringing us into a spirit of open camaraderie. We can’t wait to experience all this with Dirty Fonzy, who we hope will soon be defending their album everywhere!

At the end of 2023, Dirty Fonzy offer us thirteen effective tracks, tackling a variety of subjects, sometimes festive, sometimes more serious or even personal. The diverse influences brought to bear on this opus make each track unique, while maintaining a fine unity throughout. A great gift for the festive season!
