Le groupe strasbourgeois Los Disidientes Del Sucio Motel est un nom bien connu de la scène stoner française. Il faut dire qu’avec des albums comme Polaris ou Arcane, le groupe s’est forgé un nom synonyme de son massif. Aujourd’hui, le quintet nous propose un voyage acoustique un nouvel EP. Intitulé Breath, il est disponible depuis le 1er décembre dernier via Klonosphère et Season Of Mist. Pas de nouvelles chansons ici, mais des versions revisités de titres qui ont depuis plusieurs années une place de choix dans nos playlists. Autant vous dire qu’on a hâte de découvrir ça!

On commence avec « The Plague », morceau issu de Polaris. Comme toujours le mélange de voix est au cœur de la musique du groupe, avec des harmonies très réussies. Il est très plaisant de redécouvrir les morceaux du groupe dans une inédite. Les guitares de Nicolas Foucaud et Romain Reichhart apportent toujours autant d’émotion, même si les pédales d’effet chères au groupe sont un peu mises de côté ici. Les compositions du groupe prennent une toute nouvelle identité ici avec les parties de piano et de violoncelle de Katia Jacob, qui nous enchante aussi avec sa tessiture vocale reconnaissable en quelques secondes. Côté voix on retrouve évidemment Daniel Scherding au chant lead rejoint par Katia, Nicolas et Romain pour un quatuor vocal assez impressionnant. Tout au long de cet EP, et en particulier sur « Blood Planet Child » on retrouve l’excellent travail de batterie de Grégory Hiltenbrand, qui sait adoucir son jeu pour des versions magistrales de titres déjà inoubliables à l’origine. Le groupe a réellement mis ici son cœur pour nous faire redécouvrir les pépites de sa discographie et on le ressent jusqu’au dernier titre « From 66 to 51 », véritable apothéose de ce que cette excursion acoustique dans l’univers du groupe peut offrir.
Los Disidientes Del Sucio Motel s’offrent une véritable respiration avec Breath. On retrouve ce qu’on adore dans le groupe mais dans un environnement inédit qui sied parfaitement à la formation strasbourgeoise. On aurait clairement aimé que ça dure plus longtemps mais on espère que cette expérience acoustique donnera envie au quintet de nous en donner plus dans le futur soit sous la forme d’un nouvel EP, soit sous la forme d’une tournée dans cette configuration. En tout cas on vous encourage vivement à écouter cet EP qui nous offre de belles variations sur des titres qu’on appréciait déjà énormément. Une belle douceur en cette période de fêtes.

Strasbourg-based Los Disidientes Del Sucio Motel are a familiar name on the French stoner scene. With albums like Polaris and Arcane, the band has forged a name for itself synonymous with massive sound. Now the quintet are taking us on an acoustic journey with a new EP. Entitled Breath, it has been available since 1 December via Klonosphère and Season Of Mist. There are no new songs here, just revisited versions of tracks that have featured prominently in our playlists for several years now. So we can’t wait to check it out!
We begin with ‘The Plague’, a track from Polaris. As always, the mix of voices is at the heart of the band’s music, with some very successful harmonies. It’s a pleasure to rediscover the band’s songs in a new way. The guitars played by Nicolas Foucaud and Romain Reichhart are as emotive as ever, even if the effects pedals so dear to the band’s heart are a bit out of the picture here, but not totaly either. The band’s compositions take on a whole new identity here with the piano and cello parts of Katia Jacob, who also enchants us with her recognisable vocal range in a matter of seconds. As for the vocals, Daniel Scherding is obviously on lead vocals, joined by Katia, Nicolas and Romain to form an impressive vocal quartet. Throughout the EP, and particularly on ‘Blood Planet Child’, we find the excellent drumming of Grégory Hiltenbrand, who knows how to soften his playing for masterful versions of tracks that were already unforgettable from the start. The band have really put their heart and soul into making us rediscover the nuggets of their discography, and you can feel it all the way through to the final track ‘From 66 to 51’, a real apotheosis of what this acoustic excursion into the band’s universe has to offer.
Los Disidientes Del Sucio Motel take a breather with Breath. We find everything we love about the band, but in a new environment that suits the Strasbourg outfit perfectly. We’d clearly have liked it to last longer, but we hope this acoustic experience will inspire the quintet to give us more in the future, either in the form of a new EP or a tour in this configuration. In any case, we urge you to listen to this EP, which offers us some fine variations on tracks we’ve already come to appreciate. A lovely treat for the festive season.
