Butterfly Bulldozer est un projet de psych post punk formé en 2021 pour nous compter l’histoire du voyage interstellaire de Captain Fuzz, 0B-1, Zarkor, Rocket and Professor Tricks à bord d’un vaisseau spatial. Pour débuter cette épopée en leur compagnie, le groupe nantais nous fait découvrir The Great Becoming Of Captain Fuzz, premier chapitre d’une histoire qu’on espère longue et passionnante. L’EP sera disponible via Tempest Of Noise le 16 février prochain. Et c’est parti pour découvrir comment cet étonnante odyssée à commencé!

Les guitares de « BTF BDZ » arrivent et nous plongent dans l’aventure du Butterfly Bulldozer, très vite rejoints par les autres instruments! Les voix robotiques se mêlent à un chant plus classique et forment une véritable narration. On part donc à la découverte du vaisseau puis de ces occupants dans ces cinq titres triturés à la pédale d’effet. Le mélange entre post punk et sonorités psyché fonctionne à merveille et nous donne envie de partir rencontrer le reste des personnages. Le groupe brouille les pistes avec un titre paraissant plus calme qui colle parfaitement au nom de « PR. TRICKS ». On y retrouve pourtant très rapidement un rythme beaucoup plus intéressant qui nous emporte dans le début du voyage de l’équipage.

Le concept est posé en seulement deux titres et on poursuit avec la présentation de « ROCKET », artilleur de son état et de « OB-1 » robot tout juste crée qui s’est retrouvé dans l’aventure en interceptant un appel entre Captain Fuzz et le professeur. D’ailleurs des parties plus narratives refont leur apparition sur les deux pour nous rapprocher un peu plus de nos héros.  Chaque titre à une véritable identité sonore, et donne une parfaite caractérisation des personnages de cette aventure spatiale. La musique suit de belles envolées et nous emporte par sa variété jusqu’à la piste finale. « TANK » très dansante et nous donnant une furieuse envie de bouger en apesanteur dans le vaisseau.

To kick off this epic journey with them, the band from Nantes present The Great Becoming Of Captain Fuzz, the first chapter in what we hope will be a long and exciting story. The guitars of « BTF BDZ » arrive and plunge us into the adventure of the Butterfly Bulldozer soon joined by the other instruments! The robotic vocals are mixed with more classical vocals to create a real narrative. We’re off to discover the ship and its occupants in these five tracks, all of which are crunched with effects pedals. The mix of post-punk and psychedelic sounds works like a charm and makes you want to meet the rest of the characters. The band blurs the lines with a seemingly calmer track that fits perfectly with the name « PR. TRICKS ». However, it soon picks up a much more interesting pace, taking us right into the beginning of the crew’s journey.

The concept is set out in just two tracks, and we continue with the introduction of « ROCKET », a gunner by trade, and « OB-1 », a newly-created robot who finds himself involved in the adventure by intercepting a call between Captain Fuzz and the Professor. Moreover, more narrative parts appear on both to bring us a little closer to our heroes. Each track has its own sound identity, perfectly characterising the characters in this space adventure. The music takes off in beautiful flights of fancy and carries us away with its variety right through to the final track. The final track, « TANK », is very danceable and gives us a furious desire to move around the ship in weightlessness.

Dive headfirst into this musical film from Butterfly Bulldozer! The Great Becoming Of Captain Fuzz promises great things for this astonishing band and for the story we’ll be following as it unfolds. The astonishing mix of genres on offer works wonders and makes us want to visit the stellar void in the company of the crew to escape this doomed Earth.
