Direction Anvers pour une des dates qu’on attendait de pied ferme depuis son annonce il y a quelques mois : celle de Knocked Loose. Le groupe qui ne cesse de nous surprendre avec des nouveaux singles toujours plus dévastateurs est de passage dans la grande salle du Trix, qui affiche complet depuis des lustres. Pour les accompagner les américains ont choisi les parisiens de Headbussa et plus étonnant les californiens de Deafheaven pour une date qui s’annonce légendaire! C’est donc prêts à voir les bras tourner, et les gens slammer à ne plus pouvoir s’arrêter que nous rentrons dans la salle impatients de découvrir les sets des trois formations.

Dans une salle déjà pleine à craquer c’est les français de Headbussa qui démarrent la soirée. D’entrée ils vont nous balancer un hardcore qui montre définitivement que la scène parisienne a clairement sa place à l’international. Le groupe n’hésite pas à demander aux gens de commencer le pit ce que quelques uns feront avec joie. Petit à petit la sauce prend et le groupe voit l’énergie monter dans la salle, il faut dire que Loïc est un front man de grand talent. On découvre le groupe ce soir sur scène et on se prend les pépites hardcore du groupe en pleine face. Le groupe proposera une reprise de The Shattered Realm avant de se lancer dans un morceau dédié à la scène HxC parisienne! Le public commence à bien se chauffer et les messages en soutien à la working class sont accueillis par de larges applaudissements. Le groupe profite à fond de la place offerte par Knocked Loose sur la tournée et les remercie chaudement pour l’accueil! Après une dernière petite bombe calibrée pour le pit le groupe quitte la scène applaudi par un public largement conquis par le groupe français.
Petite pause puis c’est au tour de Deafheaven de monter sur scène! Autant vous dire qu’on attendait ce set avec impatience et on va se prendre une gifle en pleine face dès les premiers instants du set! Le groupe de post métal livre une prestation d’anthologie marquée surtout par la puissance et l’émotion qui se dégage des lamentations hurlées par George Clarke. Le rouleau compresseur de cœurs est bien en route et les larmes ne tarderont pas à monter aux yeux dès « Brought To The Water ». On savait le groupe magistral en live mais la performance de ce soir dépasse toutes nos espérances. Le choix de mette cette formation était étonnant sur le papier, mais force est de constater que le public se laisse prendre par la pureté des compositions du quintet. Chaque morceau prend le temps et nous transporte loin très loin! Les guitares de Shiv Mehra et Kerry McCoy sont d’une force folle, chaque riff est un pur plaisir pour les oreilles et montre l’immense talent des deux musiciens. « Gifts For The Earth » laisse Daniel Tracy à la batterie et Chris Johnson à la basse nous délivrer toute la beauté rythmique que leur duo permet. Tout au long de ces cinquante minutes qu’on ne voit passer le groupe nous livre son tout meilleur et c’est sur le majestueux « Dream House » que le groupe nous laisse, émus et emportés par un set qui s’inscrit comme ce qu’on a vu de plus fort cette année. Un vrai moment marquant comme le post métal sait en proposer! On espère un passage du groupe en tête d’affiche très prochainement en France, et pourquoi pas à Lille!
Après un moment indispensable pour redescendre du nuage Deafheaven il est temps de revenir au hardcore avec les patrons de Knocked Loose, qui débarquent très fort avec l’excellent morceau « Deep In The Willow ». C’est parti pour la fête au pit et au slams dans tous les sens. Le public du Trix est bien réveillé et réponds très favorablement aux sollicitations de Bryan Garris et sa bande! Pas le temps de se reposer les titres s’enchainent à pleine vitesse et c’est dès le troisième titre que George Clarke viendra passer une tête pour une version inédite de « God Knows ». Comme toujours l’énergie qui se dégage des sets des américains dépasse tout ce qu’on peut imaginer. Rien ne résiste au passage des riffs saccadés de Isaac Hale et Nicko Calderon sur des titres comme « Deadringer » ou « Belleville »! Le groupe américain est au sommet de son art et nous livre une prestation qui coiffe au poteau celle du Trabendo de Paris en 2022. Ici la salle rend bien plus hommage au son massif du groupe et c’est sur le tout nouveau « Blinding Fate » qu’on se prendra le plus la force du groupe en pleine face. Le devant de la scène est devenu le lieu où les slammeurs passent pour aller sauter un peu plus loin entrainés par les rythmiques de Kevin « Pacsun » Kaine à la batterie et les lignes de basses sur vitaminées de Kevin Otten! Lorsque sur une des titres le groupe verra une personne au sol dans le pit, évidemment que Bryan demandera l’arrêt immédiat du set pour vérifier que tout va bien avant de repartir de plus belle avec toujours un chant impressionnant de maîtrise. Deux fois pendant le set Loïc de Headbussa reviendra lui aussi passer une tête sur scène, signe que l’entente sur la tournée est excellente entre les trois formations. Knocked Loose ont décidé de gâter les fans avec « All My Friends » avant de se lancer dans un « Mistakes Likes Fractures » inoubliable, morceau où Bryan annoncera d’ailleurs que la fin approche. Mais évidemment le cultissime « Counting Worms » est encore au programme et lancera l’envahissement de la scène par le public au grand plaisir du groupe qui ne demandait que ça! Puis « Everything Is Quiet Now » nous confirme que la fin est bien là mais nous donne une dernière occasion de profiter du hardcore dévastateur des américains.
Quelle soirée nous aurons vécu dans une de nos salles favorites! L’affiche étonnante a tenu toutes ses promesses et chacune des trois formations a marqué les esprits avec un set taillé pour marquer l’audience. Tout à fait le genre de plateau qu’on adore voir, bien divers et blindé de groupes ultra talentueux qui nous font vibrer depuis longtemps ou qu’on découvre avec grand plaisir!

It’s off to Antwerp for one of the dates we’ve been eagerly awaiting ever since it was announced a few months ago: Knocked Loose. The band, who never cease to surprise us with devastating new singles, are back at the Trix, which has been sold out for ages. To accompany them, the Americans have chosen Parisians Headbussa and, more surprisingly, Californians Deafheaven for a date that promises to be legendary! So it’s ready to see the arms spinning, and the people slamming until they can’t stop, that we enter the venue, impatient to discover the sets of the three bands.

With the venue already packed to the rafters, French band Headbussa kick off the evening. Right from the off, they hit us with a hardcore sound that shows that the Parisian scene clearly has a place on the international scene. The band don’t hesitate to ask people to start the pit, which some of them gladly do. Little by little, the momentum builds and the band see the energy rise in the room, it must be said that Loïc is a very talented front man. We discover the band tonight on stage and we get the hardcore nuggets of the band in our face. The band play a cover of The Shattered Realm before launching into a song dedicated to the Parisian HxC scene! The crowd starts to warm up and the messages in support of the working class are greeted with loud applause. The band take full advantage of the space offered by Knocked Loose on their tour and thank them warmly for their welcome! After a last little bomb calibrated for the pit, the band leave the stage applauded by an audience largely won over by the French band.
After a short break, it’s Deafheaven’s turn on stage! We’ve been waiting impatiently for this set, and we’re in for a slap in the face right from the start! The post-metal band put on an anthology performance, marked above all by the power and emotion of George Clarke‘s crushing lamentations. The steamroller of hearts is well and truly underway, and it doesn’t take long for tears to well up in the eyes at ‘Brought To The Water’. We knew the band were masterful live, but tonight’s performance exceeded all our expectations. The choice of this line-up was surprising on paper, but it’s clear that the audience is taken in by the purity of the quintet’s compositions. Each track takes its time and transports us far, far away! Shiv Mehra and Kerry McCoy‘s guitars are insanely strong, and each riff is a pure pleasure for the ears, demonstrating the immense talent of the two musicians. « Gifts For The Earth » lets Daniel Tracy on drums and Chris Johnson on bass deliver all the rhythmic beauty that their duo allows. Throughout the fifty minutes that pass, the band deliver their very best, and it’s on the majestic « Dream House » that the band leave us, moved and carried away by a set that was one of the strongest we’ve seen this year. A real highlight in the post-metal genre! We hope to see the band headlining in France very soon, and why not in Lille?
After a much-needed moment to come down from the Deafheaven cloud, it’s time to get back to hardcore with bosses Knocked Loose, who come out swinging with the excellent track « Deep In The Willow ». It’s time for a pit party and slams in all directions. The crowd at the Trix is wide awake and responds very favourably to Bryan Garris and his band! There was no time to rest, the songs went on at full speed and it was on the third track that George Clarke popped his head in for a previously unreleased version of « God Knows ». As always, the energy that emanates from the Americans’ sets surpasses anything you can imagine. Isaac Hale and Nicko Calderon’s jolting riffs on tracks like « Deadringer » and « Belleville » are unstoppable! The American band were at the top of their game, delivering a performance that beat the Trabendo in Paris in 2022. Here, the venue paid far more tribute to the band’s massive sound, and it was on the brand new ‘Blinding Fate’ that the band’s force was most clearly felt. The front of the stage has become the place where the slammers go to jump a little further away, driven by the rhythms of Kevin « Pacsun » Kaine on drums and Kevin Otten‘s vitamin-packed bass lines! When, during one of the songs, the band saw a person on the ground in the pit, Bryan naturally called an immediate halt to the set to check that everything was OK before setting off again with masterful vocals. Twice during the set, Loïc from Headbussa also came back on stage to say hello, a sign of the excellent understanding between the three bands on the tour. Knocked Loose decided to spoil their fans with « All My Friends » before launching into an unforgettable « Mistakes Likes Fractures », a track in which Bryan announced that the end was comming. But, of course, the cult classic « Counting Worms » was still on the agenda, kicking off the crowd’s invasion of the stage, much to the delight of the band, who were just begging for it! Then « Everything Is Quiet Now » confirms that the end is nigh, but gives us one last chance to enjoy the devastating hardcore of the Americans.
What an evening we had in one of our favourite venues! The astonishing line-up lived up to all its promises, and each of the three bands made their mark with a set tailored to the audience. It was exactly the kind of line-up we love to see, packed with ultra-talented bands that have been thrilling us for a long time or that we’re just discovering with great pleasure!
