Parfois il est indispensable de savoir perdre un peu son sérieux et passer en mode fête complète. C’est ce qu’une partie de l’équipe a décidé de faire en ce 1er avril en partant au concert de Nanowar Of Steel dans la salle du DVG Club de Courtrai en Belgique. Pour les accompagner sur cette soirée c’est les locaux de Phoenix Rebellion qui ont été choisis. C’est donc prêts à passer une belle soirée sous le signe de la parodie que nous attendons le début des festivités!

La lumière s’éteint dans une salle déjà pleine à craquer et c’est Phoenix Rebellion qui montent sur scène pour chauffer le public. Loin du style musical proposé par les italiens passant après eux, on se retrouve devant un heavy metal assez classique qui aura clairement du mal à nous captiver. Il faut dire que sur scène le groupe semble vouloir proposer un show des plus clichés avec un chanteur levant sa bouteille de whiskey en l’air et la faisant passer dans la salle. On n’arrivera clairement pas à accrocher à la proposition du groupe et on préfèrera se mettre au fond de la salle pour laisser le reste du public profiter. En fin de set on se rendre vite compte que le choix étonnant de première partie a vraiment eu du mal à convaincre et même si le groupe a clairement voulu donner son meilleur, ils n’ont malheureusement pas totalement trouvé leur public.
C’est parti pour la fête parodique tant attendu avec les italiens de Nanowar Of Steel qui débarquent sur scène évidemment tous costumés, puis démarrent en trombes avec le classique « Babie, MILF Princess Of The Twilight » qui même sans la présence de Fabio Lione (Angra) garde toute sa splendeur. Le public est en feu et danse tout en reprenant déjà les paroles en chœur. Evidemment Potowotominimak arrive ensuite affublé d’une tête de Cthulhu pour le titre qui lui est dédié, puis la chouette arrivera évidemment sur scène pour nous faire chanter « Il cacciatore della notte » et son refrain qui nous ferra battre des ailes. Oui le show est fait pour la fête et c’est exactement ce que l’on attendait! Le groupe enchaine avec sa cover de Goerge Michael pour un « Wall Of Love » des plus agréables. Les tubes s’enchainent et chacun est l’occasion d’une nouvelle proposition loufoque des italiens. Sur « …And Then I Noticed She Was A Gargoyle » nous aurons l’occasion d’entendre la belle voix de Mr. Baffo nous conter cette histoire étonnante d’une soirée où son date est resté de marbre. Il est ensuite temps de repartir dans des danses effrénées avec « Disco Metal » et « Norwegian Reggaeton » évidemment toujours chantées par tout le public présent ce soir.
Les italiens n’ont pas l’intention de baisser leur niveau de parodie et c’est parti pour un tour du côté d’Iron Maiden avec Afraid To Shoot Into The Eyes Of A Stranger In A Strange Land » qui montre encore une fois que les musiciens parodient mais toujours avec un respect total pour le groupe d’origine avec la présence d’Eddie sur l’écran en fond de scène. La suite sera un décollage express pour « Uranus » et toutes les blagues qui peuvent s’en suivre! Puis le groupe nous annonce arriver à la fin de son show, mais nous propose un voyage dans ce paradis fiscal peu connu qu’est le Lichtenstein avant de terminer en beauté sur un de leurs classiques issus du premier album, qui sera évidemment l’occasion pour les fans de tout donner une fois de plus.
La bande revient acclamée par un public prêt à faire durer la fête et nous partons sur le chant de bataille qu’est « Pasadena 1994 », à savoir la finale de la Coupe Du Monde de foot 1994. Evidemment la voix de Joakin Brodén de Sabaton résonnera dans les hauts parleurs pour faire de ce morceau guerrier un véritable hommage au groupe suédois. Et après un morceau en hommage à la polenta, la soirée se termine sur le désormais immanquable « Valhalleluja » et son hommage appuyé à la marque suédoise bien connue d’ameublement. Evidemment la communion avec le public est totale et signe une fin de soirée en apothéose placée une fois de plus sous le signe de la fête.
Nanowar Of Steel ont prouvé une fois de plus ce soir qu’ils sont parmi les meilleurs groupes parodiques européens. Car même si l’humour et les blagues sont clairement de mise, les musiciens prouvent à chaque instant qu’ils maîtrisent totalement ce qu’ils font et qu’ils connaissent parfaitement chaque groupe ou musique parodiée. On a passé une excellente soirée très bien entourés et en faisant la fête en musique, que demander de plus ?

Sometimes it’s essential to lose your seriousness and go into full party mode. That’s what some of the team decided to do on 1 April, when they headed off to the Nanowar Of Steel concert at the DVG Club in Kortrijk, Belgium. Phoenix Rebellion were chosen to accompany them on the night. So we’re all set for a great evening of parody as the festivities get underway!

The lights went down in an already packed house, and Phoenix Rebellion took to the stage to warm up the crowd. Far from the musical style offered by the Italians who came after them, we find ourselves in front of a rather classic heavy metal that clearly struggles to captivate us. It has to be said that on stage the band seem to want to put on the most clichéd show, with the singer raising his bottle of whiskey in the air and passing it around the room. Clearly, we couldn’t really get into the band’s proposal and preferred to stand at the back of the room to let the rest of the audience enjoy the show. As the set drew to a close, it soon became clear that the band’s surprising choice of support act had really had trouble convincing the audience, and although they clearly wanted to give it their all, they unfortunately didn’t quite find their audience.
It’s time for the long-awaited parody party with the Italians from Nanowar Of Steel who take to the stage in full costume, then kick things off with the classic « Babie, MILF Princess Of The Twilight », which even without the presence of Fabio Lione (Angra) retains all its splendour. The crowd were on fire, dancing and singing along to the lyrics. Then, of course, Potowotominimak comes on stage wearing a Cthulhu head for the song dedicated to him, and of course, the owl comes on stage to make us sing « Il cacciatore della notte » and its chorus that will have us flapping our wings. Yes, the show is made for parties, and that’s exactly what we’ve been waiting for! The band followed up with their cover of George Michael for a most enjoyable « Wall Of Love ». The hits just keep coming and each one is the occasion for a new zany proposal from the Italians. On « …And Then I Noticed She Was A Gargoyle » we get to hear Mr. Baffo‘s beautiful voice tell us the astonishing story of an evening when his date remained unmoved. Then it was time to get back into the swing of things with « Disco Metal » and « Norwegian Reggaeton », which were obviously still being sung along by the entire audience.
The Italians have no intention of lowering their level of parody and it’s off for a tour of Iron Maiden with « Afraid To Shoot Into The Eyes Of A Stranger In A Strange Land », which once again shows that the musicians are parodying but always with total respect for the original band, with the presence of Eddie on the screen at the back of the stage. What follows is an express take-off for « Uranus » and all the jokes that follow! The band then announce that they are coming to the end of their show, but offer us a trip to the little-known tax haven of Lichtenstein before finishing on a high note with one of their classics from the first album, which will obviously be an opportunity for the fans to give it their all once again.
The band return, cheered on by an audience ready to keep the party going, and we’re off to the battle song that is « Pasadena 1994 », i.e. the 1994 football World Cup final. Obviously, the voice of Sabaton‘s Joakin Brodén resounds through the speakers, making this warlike track a real tribute to the Swedish band. And after a song in tribute to polenta, the evening comes to a close with the now unmissable ‘Valhalleluja’ and its heartfelt tribute to the well-known Swedish furniture brand. It goes without saying that there was total communion with the audience, making for a fitting end to the evening’s festivities.
Nanowar Of Steel proved once again tonight that they are one of Europe’s finest parody bands. Although the humour and jokes were clearly in evidence, the musicians proved at every moment that they had total mastery of what they were doing and that they knew every band or piece of music parodied. What more could you ask for than an excellent evening spent in the company of good people and partying to the music?
