Après avoir été la tête d’affiche d’énormes festivals en Europe comme le Hellfest et le Summer Breeze, The Ghost Inside célèbre ses vingt ans d’existence avec un tout nouvel album. Searching for Solace est leur sixième album studio qui sortira le 19 avril sur les plateformes de streaming avant d’être disponible en CD et vinyles le 7 juin via Epitaph Records. Quelques singles ont déjà été dévoilés mais l’album nous réserve encore quelques surprises.

« Going Under » est la première chanson de cet album et quel premier titre pour nous y plonger directement, avec un excellent équilibre entre les cris et les voix claires, ce titre est prêt à rester dans un coin de votre esprit. Une première chanson accrocheuse semble être une bonne recette pour donner à son public l’envie de poursuivre son écoute. Avec Searching For Solace, The Ghost Inside nous a préparé un bon mélange de metalcore et de hardcore mélodique et « Death Grip » semble le démontrer parfaitement avec un début lourd où l’on n’a pas besoin d’attendre longtemps pour un break. Avec un refrain accrocheur, des rythmes féroces et de superbes riffs, on plonge directement dans « Light Years » avant de passer à un titre plus paisible avec « Secret ».

Même si « Split » commence par un air de guitare qui semble rapide mais calme, les headbangers et les amateurs de moshpit seront servis avec ce morceau, impossible de ne pas être emporté par lui. Cinq secondes de silence permettent à Jonathan Vigil de déclarer « I feel my sanity split, I’m fucking loosing it » pour un breakdown parfait. « Wash It Away » était le premier single annonçant ce nouvel album, on y entend le chanteur méditer sur le fait qu’il est toujours effrayant de considérer que tout ce que l’on a construit peut rapidement disparaître mais qu’il est parfois nécessaire de repartir à zéro.

Searching for Solace nous permet également de découvrir des moments plus calmes, notamment avec « Cityscapes » qui est une ballade assez émouvante. « Earn it » est à coup sûr une chanson que l’on a envie d’entendre en live pour chanter, la mélodie est assez facile à retenir et suffisamment accrocheuse pour rester dans les mémoires. Fidèle à son titre, la chanson « Wrath » est lourde et contient de superbes ruptures, il n’y a pas moyen de ne pas headbanguer ici encore ! Le milieu du morceau comporte une partie où le chant est plus bas et où la tension monte mais ne finit pas par exploser autant qu’on l’aurait espéré… « Reckoning » lancerait un grand circle pit avec sa mélodie entraînante et ses riffs de guitare ! Le disque se termine avec le titre « Breathless », une fin mélodique qui introduit des éléments électriques et acoustiques. Une fin plus calme que la plupart des autres morceaux, certains moments sont accompagnés de back vocals et créent une sorte d’harmonie au sein du groupe où tout s’emboîte et se marie très bien. La dernière phrase est prononcée presque comme un murmure et clôt parfaitement ce disque.

Searching for Solace n’est rien d’autre que la démonstration que même si The Ghost Inside ne réinvente pas le metalcore, ils sont toujours au sommet de leur carrière et sont capables de s’en tenir à ce qui a fait leurs preuves. Ce sixième album présente un excellent équilibre entre des sons agressifs et des messages réfléchis. Il revient sur les éléments fondamentaux des titres de The Ghost Inside : résilience, persévérance et espoir. L’album sera disponible en format numérique et pourra être écouté en streaming avant d’être acheté en version physique au mois de juin. Il faudra ensuite attendre le 18 octobre pour leur unique concert en France, à Paris.

After headlining huge festivals in Europe like Hellfest and Summer Breeze, The Ghost Inside is celebrating their twenty-years of existence with a brand new record. Searching for Solace is their sixth studio album that will be released on April 19th on streaming platforms before being available in CDs and vinyls on June 7th on Epitaph Records. Some singles have already been released but the album still has some surprises for us.

“Going Under” is the first song of this record and what a first track to bring us directly into it, with a great balance between screams and clean vocals, this track is ready to stay in a corner of your mind. A catchy first song seems like a great recipe to give your audience the desire to pursue their listening. With Searching For Solace, The Ghost Inside prepared us a good mix of their perfect blend of metalcore and melodic hardcore and “Death Grip” seems to demonstrate it perfectly with a heavy beginning where we do not need to wait long for a breakdown. With a catchy chorus, ferocious rhythms and great riffs, we plunge directly into “Light Years” before going to a track that is more peaceful with “Secret”.

Even though “Split” starts with a guitar tune that seems fast but calm, headbangers and moshpit lovers will be served with this song, impossible to not be swept along by it. Five second of silence allows Jonathan Vigil to declare “I feel my sanity split, I’m fucking loosing it” for a perfect breakdown. “Wash It Away” was the lead single to announce this new album, in it we can hear the vocalist meditate on the fact that it is always frightening to consider that everything you’ve built can quickly disappear but starting over might be necessary sometimes. 

Searching for Solace also allows us to discover quieter moments, namely with “Cityscapes” which is quite an emotional ballad. “Earn it” is for sure a song that we want to hear live to sing along, the melody is quite easy to remember and catchy enough to stay in your mind. True to its title, the song “Wrath” is heavy and has some great breakdowns, there is no way not to headbang here again! The middle of the track has a part where the vocals are lower and that the tension is building up but doesn’t end up exploding as much as we might have been hoping for… “Reckoning” would launch a great circle pit with its rousing melody and guitar riffs! The record closes with the track “Breathless”, a melodic end that introduces some electric and acoustic elements. An end that is calmer than most of the other tracks, some moments are accompanied by back vocals and create a kind of harmony among the band where everything fits where it should and goes very well together. The last sentence is delivered almost as a whisper and closes this record perfectly.

Searching for Solace is nothing else than a demonstration that even though The Ghost Inside isn’t reinventing metalcore, they are still at the top of their career and are able to stick to what has been working wonders for them. This sixth album has a great balance between aggressive sounds as well as thoughtful messaging. It is going back to The Ghost Inside’s fundamental elements in their titles: resilience, perseverance and hope. Released now in the  digital format we will be able to stream it before buying a physical copy in June. After that, we will need to wait for the october European tour.
