Raphaël Balzary, ancien chanteur du groupe de post punk We Hate You Please Die nous propose un nouveau projet : Isolation. Le premier EP Creature Lies sort le 1er mai via Before Collapse Records et nous n’avons pas pu résister à l’envie de vous en parler!

Un court titre d’introduction nous met en jambes et nous accueille dans l’univers de cette nouvelle formation. On retrouve la voix de Raphaël qui a un grain assez particulier et on ne peut s’empêcher de penser à We Hate You Please Die. Cette impression est renforcée par le fait que Isolation reste dans le même univers que son ancien groupe. Mais fort heureusement l’EP n’est pas juste une variante de ce que pouvait proposer Raphaël dans sa formation précédente. On retrouve rapidement des passages très mélodiques, notamment dans “Wait+Erased”. Les chœurs féminins apportent une douceur à l’ensemble. De manière générale, on est rapidement happé par le torrent émotionnel brut qui se dégage des titres proposés. Entre colère et souffrance exprimées par une voix parfois tremblante, notamment dans “Sanism” et toujours à fleur de peau, on ressent une certaine urgence à évacuer tous ces ressentis. Chaque titre nous emmène dans un tourbillon, variant les rythmes et les mélodies sans cesse, et on se sent baladés et absorbés dans la structure des morceaux, se laissant guider dans notre écoute. L’expérience se termine rapidement puisque “Creature Lies” vient clore cet EP après environ un quart d’heure. Ce titre a d’ailleurs été clippé, avec des images qui renforcent ce fameux tourbillon d’émotions. On termine sur une évidente colère après des passages teintés de mélancolie et tant d’autres.
L’écoute de Creature Lies est donc une expérience émotionnelle et musicale forte. Il est indéniable que tous les amateurs de We Hate You Please Die seront ravis de retrouver Raphaël au chant de Isolation. Raphaël Balzary, former lead singer of post-punk band We Hate You Please Die, has come up with a new project: Isolation. The first EP, Creature Lies, is out on May 1st via Before Collapse Records, and we couldn’t resist telling you all about it!

A short introductory track gets us up and running and welcomes us into the world of this new band. Raphaël‘s voice has a distinctive grain to it, and you can’t help but think of We Hate You Please Die. This impression is reinforced by the fact that Isolation remains in the same universe as its former band. But fortunately the EP is not just a variation on what Raphaël was able to offer in his previous band. There are some very melodic passages, notably in ‘Wait+Erased’. The female backing vocals add a gentle touch to the whole. Generally speaking, you’re quickly caught up in the raw emotional torrent that emanates from the tracks on offer. Between the anger and suffering expressed by the sometimes shaky vocals, particularly in ‘sanism’, and the always raw emotions, there’s a sense of urgency to get these feelings out. Each track takes you on a whirlwind ride, constantly varying the rhythms and melodies, and you feel yourself being swept along and absorbed in the structure of the tracks, letting yourself be guided as you listen. The experience quickly comes to an end, with ‘Creature Lies’ bringing the EP to a close after around a quarter of an hour. This track has also been clipped, with images that reinforce this famous whirlwind of emotions. It ends on a note of obvious anger, after passages tinged with melancholy and so much more.
Listening to Creature Lies is a powerful emotional and musical experience. There’s no doubt that fans of We Hate You Please Die will be delighted to find Raphaël back on vocals on Isolation. We recommend that you listen to this EP and watch the ‘Creature Lies’ and ‘sanism » videos.
