Entre les gouttes de pluie et quelques rayons de soleil parisiens, nous profitons de ce mardi 21 mai pour nous rendre à l’Olympia pour une soirée haute en couleur et en rythme. Kid Bookie ouvre la soirée avec une énergie débordante, Set It Off enchaînent en faisant chanter la foule, pour finir I Prevail secouent la foule à en faire trembler le sol de la salle ! Un ensemble de groupes qui promet des sets électrisant !

Pas besoin d’attendre plus que la première partie pour que le public soit échauffé, Kid Bookie foule pour la première fois la scène française accompagné de ses musiciens. Leur énergie est contagieuse avec un bon mélange de métal, trap et rap. Kid Bookie varie comme il le faut les moments chantés, les moments rappés, où le débit de paroles est impressionnant, qui s’enchaînent sans difficulté avec des screams très propres. Les pogos se créent plutôt à la fin du set et le chanteur n’hésite pas à rejoindre la foule ! Kid Bookie a très facilement établi le contact avec son public tout en introduisant quelques chansons notamment “Scars” qui fera partie de son prochain album. L’Olympia a réussi à accueillir comme il se doit le chanteur et ses musiciens pour leur première à Paris, maintenant nous n’avons plus qu’à attendre le mois de septembre pour découvrir l’album Songs For The Living // Songs For The Dead.
Une courte attente fait place à l’entrée en scène de Set It Off sur “Parasite”, le public attendait le groupe de pied ferme, prêt à chanter en chœur et sauter au rythme des chansons. Le groupe n’oublie pas de profiter de ce moment pour introduire le dernier single, sorti un peu plus tôt cette année, “Fake Ass Friends”, mais c’est également le moment idéal que Cody Carson a choisi pour annoncer qu’ils seront de retour en France l’année prochaine et en tête d’affiche cette fois-ci ! Pas plus d’informations à ce sujet mais dans tous les cas, si vous souhaitez les voir cela devrait arriver dans les prochains temps. Pendant le set, nous avons droit à une reprise de Linkin Park avec “Points of Authority” mais aussi à des chansons bien connues du groupe comme “Wolf In a Sheep’s Clothing”, “Why Worry”, où le public n’a pas besoin d’être entraîné pour reprendre le refrain, ou encore “Killer In The Mirror”. C’était tout de même quelque peu surprenant de ne voir aucune chanson du dernier album, Elsewhere, apparaître dans cette setlist. Alors que les membres de Set It Off quittent la scène, le public n’arrête pas d’en redemander, on remarque facilement que le groupe est plus que ravi et ému par cet accueil !
I Prevail se font attendre avant de lancer à 21h45 leur introduction, sur l’écran géant à l’arrière de la scène on voit apparaître une chaise vide, de temps en temps occupée par une silhouette. La voix off fait l’introduction en parlant du monde des rêves mais aussi du fait que ceux-ci se terminent toujours par l’apparition d’un monstre. Une introduction qui nous plonge dans une atmosphère sombre avant d’annoncer la phrase “There Is Fear In Letting Go”. Dès le départ, le sol se met à rebondir sous les mouvements de la foule.
Il nous semble compliqué d’imaginer I Prevail sans Brian Burkheiser, celui-ci étant atteint du syndrome d’Eagle, il n’a pas pu rejoindre les autres membres pour cette tournée, Eric Vanlerberghe assume donc, avec Dylan Bowman, le chant. Il est facile de comprendre que ce n’est pas une tâche simple, tout n’est pas toujours juste et les paroles sont scotchées au praticable (mais semblent peu utilisées), dans tous les cas le public est ravi que le groupe n’ait pas pris la décision d’annuler la tournée et participe aussi avec plaisir à l’effort de remplacement pour combler les parties de Brian. Eric ne manque pas de rassurer le public concernant son absence en précisant qu’il va bien et qu’il se remet tout en complétant qu’ils sont tout de même heureux d’avoir maintenu cette tournée européenne.
Après “Bad Things”, quelques secondes de pause laissent le public réclamer la suite. Cela permet à Eric de prendre un petit moment de parole pour remercier l’audience d’être présente depuis plus de 10 ans. Avant d’entamer la chanson suivante, Eric prévient qu’il n’aime pas la chanter mais que si le public l’accompagne alors ça ira, on entend donc débuter la reprise de Taylor Swift “Blank Space” qui était apparut sur l’album Heart Vs. Mind en 2014. Ils n’ont pas non plus hésité à annoncer les singalong comme “DOA” ou à faire quelques discours parlant des choses plus difficiles à vivre, du fait que tout le monde dans la salle représente aussi une famille réunie, notamment avant de lancer “Deep End”. D’ailleurs, Eric n’hésite pas à ajouter quelques mots et phrases dans un français hésitant mais qui fait toujours plaisir au public.
Eric annonce la dernière chanson du set qui est “Hurricane”, le public rugit de joie et n’hésite pas à reprendre le refrain avec le groupe. En cas d’oubli, pas de problème, l’écran géant à l’arrière a servi tout le show pour projeter des visuels plus ou moins abstraits, pendant “Hurricane” on a droit à une maison abandonnée dans une vallée, mais aussi à afficher les paroles notamment pendant les refrains ! Arrive déjà l’heure du rappel, le public ne fatigue pas et en demande toujours plus ! I Prevail reviennent donc pour deux dernières chansons qui enflamment les pogos et les fans avec “Bow Down” ainsi que “Gasoline” qui fermera ce set.
Ce mardi soir à l’Olympia, qui était complet, a été une vraie bouffée d’énergie pour ouvrir la semaine ! Kid Bookie nous a apporté une intensité inattendue, et nous a donné hâte de découvrir son prochain album. Set It Off ont dynamisé la salle avec des pogos, wall of death mais aussi beaucoup d’interactions avec le public tandis que I Prevail nous ont offert une performance tout aussi puissante qu’émouvante. L’ensemble créé par la succession de ces trois groupes a très bien fonctionné afin de nous permettre de passer une excellente soirée!

Between raindrops and a few rays of Parisian sunshine, we made the most of May 21st to head to the Olympia for an evening of colour and rhythm. Kid Bookie opened the evening with a burst of energy, followed by Set It Off, who got the crowd singing along, and finally I Prevail, who shook the crowd to the point of shaking the floor! A line-up of bands that promises electrifying sets!

There’s no need to wait much longer than the opening act to get the crowd warmed up, as Kid Bookie hits the French stage for the first time, accompanied by his musicians. Their energy is infectious, with a good mix of metal, trap and rap. Kid Bookie mixes up his vocals and his rapping, with impressive flow and clean screams. The pogos started to build up towards the end of the set, and the singer didn’t hesitate to join in with the crowd! Kid Bookie easily established contact with his audience while introducing a few songs, notably ‘Scars’, which will be on his next album. L’Olympia gave the singer and his musicians a fitting welcome for their Paris premiere, and now all we have to do is wait until September to discover the album Songs For The Living // Songs For The Dead.
A short wait gave way to Set It Off’s entrance on stage on ‘Parasite’, with the audience waiting with bated breath for the band, ready to sing along and jump to the rhythm of the songs. The band didn’t forget to take advantage of this moment to introduce their latest single, released earlier this year, ‘Fake Ass Friends’, but it was also the perfect moment for Cody Carson to announce that they will be back in France next year, this time as headliners! No further information on this, but if you’re interested in seeing them, it should happen soon. During the set, we were treated to a Linkin Park cover with ‘Points of Authority’, as well as some of the band’s best-known songs, such as ‘Wolf In a Sheep’s Clothing’, ‘Why Worry’, where the audience didn’t need any training to sing along to the chorus, and ‘Killer In The Mirror’. Still, it was a bit surprising not to see any songs from the latest album, Elsewhere, appear in this setlist. As the members of Set It Off left the stage, the crowd kept coming back for more, and it was easy to see that the band were more than delighted and moved by their reception!
I Prevail are kept waiting before launching their introduction at 9.45pm. On the giant screen at the back of the stage an empty chair appears, occasionally occupied by a silhouette. The voiceover introduces the show, talking about the world of dreams and the fact that they always end with the appearance of a monster. The introduction plunges us into a dark atmosphere before announcing the phrase ‘There Is Fear In Letting Go’. Right from the start, the floor begins to bounce under the movements of the crowd.
It’s hard to imagine I Prevail without Brian Burkheiser, who is suffering from Eagle’s Syndrome and couldn’t join the other members of the band on this tour, so Eric Vanlerberghe took over the vocals, along with Dylan Bowman. It’s easy to understand that it’s not a simple task, not everything is right and the lyrics are taped to the floor (but don’t seem to be used much), but in any case the audience is delighted that the band didn’t take the decision to cancel the tour and is also happy to take part in the replacement effort to fill Brian‘s parts. Eric goes on to reassure the crowd that he is well and recovering, adding that they are happy to have kept the European tour going.
After ‘Bad Things’, a few seconds’ pause left the audience clamouring for more. This allows Eric to take a moment to thank the audience for being there for over 10 years. Before starting on the next song, Eric warns that he doesn’t like singing it but that if the audience accompanies him then it’ll be fine, so we hear Taylor Swift‘s cover of ‘Blank Space’, which appeared on the Heart Vs. Mind album in 2014, begin. They also didn’t hesitate to announce singalongs like ‘DOA’ or make a few speeches about the more difficult things in life, the fact that everyone in the room also represents a reunited family, especially before launching into ‘Deep End’. Eric doesn’t hesitate to add a few words and phrases in hesitant French, which always pleases the audience.
Eric announces the last song of the set which is ‘Hurricane’, the audience roars with joy and doesn’t hesitate to sing the chorus with the band. If you forget, no problem, the giant screen at the back has been used throughout the show to project more or less abstract visuals, during ‘Hurricane’ we’re treated to an abandoned house in a valley, but also to display the lyrics, particularly during the choruses! It was already time for the encore, and the crowd never tired of the show, demanding more! I Prevail return for two final songs that set the pogos and the fans alight, with ‘Bow Down’ and ‘Gasoline’ closing the set.
This Tuesday night at the Olympia, which was sold out, was a real burst of energy to open the week! Kid Bookie brought us an unexpected intensity, and made us look forward to discovering his next album. Set It Off brought the house down with pogos, wall of death and plenty of audience interaction, while I Prevail gave us a performance that was as powerful as it was moving. The combination of these three bands worked really well to make for an excellent evening!
