Toujours à Paris, une partie de l’équipe s’est rendue en ce 26 février à Petit Bain pour une date qu’on ne pouvait décemment manquer. A l’affiche Vedettes nous proposent Coilguns qui font là leur release party française de l’album Odd Love sorti en novembre dernier, ainsi que le quatuor punk grrr de Montreuil, King Kong Meuf! Une belle soirée de musique nous attendait et on vous raconte tout ça dès maintenant!

On commence donc avec King Kong Meuf qu’on est ravis de retrouver dans la salle où on les as découvert.e.s en juin 2023! Le concert démarre en trombes avec le groupe débarquant enveloppé dans du cellophane sous leurs vêtements. Comme toujours les quatre punk de Montreuils n’y vont pas de mains mortes et balancent des brûlots dénonçant l’état de notre société, les violences policières et évidemment le patriarcat. Le show est parfait et rapidement le public est conquis par les morceaux rapides et très puissants du groupe. Evidemment les trois musiciennes et le guitariste donnent tout et « Kamikaz Etincelle » ou encore « BB L’Trophé » mettent tout le monde d’accord. Alors oui, si les bruits de vomissements de la chanteuse peuvent étonner sur certains titres, on ne peut que confirmer qu’ils sont une parfaite illustration de nos réactions face à la stupidité du monde actuel! Et croyez nous ses paroles ne pourront que trouver écho en vous si un monde meilleur et moins patriarcal est le futur que vous souhaitez! Sur « Feu » la batteuse du groupe n’hésitera pas à enflammer des torches pour jouer avec. La puissance des morceaux n’a d’égal que la présence scénique du groupe qui n’hésite pas à aller au contact du public, et en particulier de têtes bien connues de leur concerts. On sent à la durée de la setlist que la formation a de quoi nous proposer un album très bientôt, et autant vous dire on attend ça de pied ferme. Sur un des morceaux leur ami Irracible vient nous poser son chant rap pour un titre tout aussi revendicatif que le reste! Les combats portés par la formation font leur petit effet sur le public de Petit Bain et lorsque la fin du set est annoncée on se dit tous qu’on en aurait bien repris un peu plus. Une dernière dose de punk bien énervé et c’est la fin pour King Kong Meuf! Le groupe a envoyé un set sans temps morts qui aura montré l’étendue des combats restant à mener aussi bien dans la rue qu’en musique! Et on hésitera pas à retourner les voir et à vous reparler de leur univers tant on se retrouve dans chacun des titres joués par la formation ce soir! Encore une prestation inoubliable qui lance la soirée comme il se doit!
Attention tornade en approche! Dès l’entrée sur scène de Coilguns on comprend que le concert ne sera pas de tout repos, et ce pour notre plus grand plaisir! La formation suisse démarrent en force avec « Bandwaggoning » issu du dernier album en date. Louis Jucker est dans une forme olympique, et bouge dans tous les sens! En quelques instants il est déjà au contact du public tout en hurlant ses paroles avec une puissance folle. Vous connaissiez la neutralité suisse, elle a disparue ce soir au profit d’une envie de tout casser, avec amour, sur son passage. Car oui Coilguns mêlent noise, hardcore et post avec brio mais surtout ils ne laissent rien au hasard quand à l’envi de retourner Petit Bain. « Watchwinders » et « Urban Reserves » finissent de mettre la fosse sans dessus dessous et nous n’en sommes qu’aux trois premiers titres. Les musiciens ne sont pas en reste et donnent tout dans une avalanche sonore des plus cathartiques. Le monde est détestable, et bien proposons une musique boosté aux bonnes valeurs et à l’envie de remuer les choses établies pour une société plus tolérante. Les fans n’ayant pas vu le groupe en terres parisiennes depuis longtemps sont ravis et sont récompensés par d’anciens titres comme « Manicheans » en dernière partie de set. Tout au long de leur performance, les suisses livrent leur meilleur en prenant soin de ne pas laisser nos tympans se reposer un seul instant. Le seul répit qu’on peut voir est celui, limité, que Louis prend lorsqu’il joue de la guitare. Mais la déferlante ne s’arrête pas et le public en donne toujours plus pour remercier le groupe de la qualité de son set. « Generic Skincare » ou « Self Employment Scheme » plus tard nous confirment ce sentiment de faire bouger les choses qu’on avait déjà décelé depuis un bon moment chez ce quatuor pas comme les autres. Il fait chaud dans Petit Bain et ça tangue, signe d’une soirée qui se déroule parfaitement. On arrive déjà à la fin du set après un tsunami d’émotions aussi positives que combatives. Mais il reste « The Wind To Wash The Pain » et « Millenials » à se mettre sous la dent avant de dire aurevoir au groupe. Evidemment ils remercieront le public pour sa fidélité, son accueil et n’hésiterons pas à dire leur admiration pour King Kong Meuf! Le public n’entend pas finir comme ça et leur demande un titre supplémentaire, qui leur sera bien évidemment donné sous la forme de « Earthians », titre au combien révélateur de toute cette combativité qui coule dans les veines de la formation suisse. De longs applaudissements se feront entendre avant que le public ne quitte la salle persuadé d’avoir vécu un des tous meilleurs concerts de l’année. Vous dire qu’on attend avec impatience la venue du groupe au Rock In Bourlon le 28 juin prochain est un doux euphémisme, car le concert de ce soir n’a fait que confirmer notre passion pour la musique de Coilguns et notre admiration pour les humains qu’ils sont!

Still in Paris, part of the team headed to Petit Bain on February 26th for a show we just couldn’t miss. On the bill for Vedettes were Coilguns, who were doing their French release party for their album Odd Love, released last November, and the grrr punk quartet from Montreuil, King Kong Meuf! A great evening of music awaits us, and we’re telling you all about it right now!

So we kick off with King Kong Meuf, who we are delighted to see back in the same venue where we discovered them in June 2023! The concert kicks off with a bang as the band arrive wrapped in cellophane under their clothes. As always, the four Montreuil punkers hit the ground running with a series of scathing lyrics denouncing the state of our society, police violence and, of course, patriarchy. The show is perfect and the audience is quickly won over by the group’s fast, powerful songs. The three musicians and the guitarist obviously give it their all, and ‘Kamikaz Etincelle’ and ‘BB L’Trophé’ have everyone in agreement. So yes, the singer’s vomiting noises may come as a surprise on certain tracks, but we can only confirm that they are a perfect illustration of our reactions to the stupidity of today’s world! And believe us, her lyrics are bound to resonate with you if a better, less patriarchal world is the future you want! On ‘Feu’, the band’s drummer doesn’t hesitate to light torches to play with. The power of the songs is matched only by the band’s stage presence, who don’t hesitate to make contact with the audience, and in particular with some of the well-known faces from their concerts. You can tell from the setlist that the band have an album in the pipeline, and we’re looking forward to it. On one of the tracks, their friend Irracible adds his rap vocals to a song that’s just as demanding as the rest! The fights the band put up had a real effect on the Petit Bain crowd, and when the end of the set was announced, we all thought we could have done with a bit more. One last dose of angry punk and that’s it for King Kong Meuf! The band put on a set with no downtime, showing the extent of the battle still to be fought, both in the streets and in music! And we won’t hesitate to go back and see them and talk to you about their world again, so much so that we can identify with each of the tracks they played tonight! Another unforgettable performance to kick off the evening in style!
Tornado warning! From the moment Coilguns take to the stage, it’s clear that this is not going to be a relaxing gig, and we’re in for a real treat! The Swiss band got off to a flying start with ‘Bandwaggoning’ from their latest album. Louis Jucker is in Olympic form, moving in all directions! In just a few moments he’s already in contact with the audience, shouting his lyrics with insane power. You’ve heard of Swiss neutrality, but tonight it’s gone, replaced by a desire to smash everything in his path with love. Yes, Coilguns mix noise, hardcore and post with brio, but above all they leave nothing to chance when it comes to the desire to return to Petit Bain. ‘Watchwinders’ and “Urban Reserves” finish off by turning the pit upside down, and we’re only on the first three tracks. The musicians are not to be outdone, giving their all in a cathartic avalanche of sound. The world is a hateful place, and here’s a musical proposal boosted by good values and the desire to shake things up for a more tolerant society. Fans who hadn’t seen the band in Paris for a long time were delighted, and were rewarded with some old favourites like ‘Manicheans’ in the last part of the set. Throughout their performance, the Swiss delivered their best, taking care not to let our eardrums rest for a single moment. The only respite we see is the limited one Louis takes when he plays guitar. But the onslaught doesn’t stop, and the audience keeps giving more and more to thank the band for the quality of their set. ‘Generic Skincare’ and “Self Employment Scheme” later on confirm the feeling of making things happen that we’ve been sensing for a while from this unique quartet. It’s hot in Petit Bain and the place is rocking, a sign that the evening is going perfectly. We’re already coming to the end of the set after a tsunami of emotions as positive as they are combative. But there’s still ‘The Wind To Wash The Pain’ and ‘Millenials’ to get your teeth into before saying goodbye to the band. Of course, they thanked the audience for their loyalty and warm welcome, and didn’t hesitate to express their admiration for King Kong Meuf! The audience had no intention of finishing like that and asked for one more song, which they were obviously given in the form of ‘Earthians’, a song that reveals all the fighting spirit that runs through the veins of this Swiss band. There was a long round of applause before the audience left the venue, convinced that they had experienced one of the best concerts of the year. To say that we can’t wait to see the band at Rock In Bourlon on 28 June is an understatement, because tonight’s concert only confirmed our passion for Coilguns‘ music and our admiration for the human beings they are!
