Le Zénith de Lille accueille en ce lundi soir une date qu’on ne pouvait manquer! Voir un des groupes qu’on suit depuis des années remplir les Zénith de France n’est pas courant, et c’est ce qu’Architects font sur cette tournée. Pour les accompagner les anglais ont choisi les belges de Brutus et leurs compatriotes de Guilt Trip, ces derniers commençant d’ailleurs à être des habitué.e.s des scènes lilloises. C’est dans un Zénith très bien rempli qu’on se rend pour profiter pleinement de cette soirée qui s’annonce parfaite.

Guilt Trip, venus tout droit de Manchester, débutent la soirée devant un public déjà prêt à retourner le Zénith de Lille. Dès « Tearing Your Life Away » on se prend en pleine face le hardcore puissant du groupe anglais. Jay Valentine est en grande forme au chant et donne tout pour réveiller le public, qui n’a clairement pas besoin qu’on lui dise deux fois. En quelques secondes, le pit devient une véritable zone de combats avec les amateurs du genre qui n’hésitent pas à montrer leurs talents pour les moulinets et autre sauts bien sportifs. Sur scène les musiciens.nes semblent ravis d’être présents sur une scène aussi grande et s’en donnent à cœur joie. L’énergie d’un titre comme « Sweet Dreams » met tout le monde d’accord avant que « Guil Trip » ne vienne définitivement retourner la fosse une bonne fois pour toute. Des gradins, on profite d’un show de metallic hardcore sans fausse note qui montre que le style a toute sa place dans les plus grandes salles, et le mérite amplement! Le groupe a encore quelques titres sous le pied avec « Severence » et « Broken Wings » tirés de leur dernier album en date. « Thin Ice » viendra clôturer un set parfait de bout en bout qui aura permis au groupe de se faire découvrir par un public toujours plus large! On imagine aisément le prochain passage de Guilt Trip dans une salle beaucoup plus grande que la Brat Cave, totalement sold out en octobre dernier. Une belle entrée en matière pour cette soirée!

Direction un monde beaucoup plus post avec les belges de Brutus qui vont calmer le jeu mais subjuguer le public lillois avec leur musique emplie d’émotions fortes. Le groupe belge est un des groupes favoris de Sam Carter d’Architects, au point où c’est déjà la deuxième tournée qu’ils partagent ensemble. « War » débute le set de la plus belle des manières mais c’est « Liar » qui viendra rappeler à quel point la performance de Stefanie Mannaerts à la batterie et au chant est impressionnante. Les émotions qui passent par la voix nous collent des frissons tout autant que les riffs et lignes de basse proposées respectivement par Stijn Vanhoegaerden et Peter Mulders. Le public écoute religieusement la formation belge et se laisse porter par des titres captivants à souhait. « What Have We Done » est toujours un des moments de bravoure du set et vient là aussi nous émouvoir au plus haut point. Stefanie n’hésite pas à remercier le public pour l’accueil à maintes reprises, avant de se lancer dans le désormais mythique « Victoria » qu’on hésite pas à reprendre en chœur. La fin approche mais « Paradise », dernier titre en date du trio, laisse le public se délecter d’une composition post métal parfaite de bout en bout. Le show se clôt sur « Dust » qui sera largement applaudi par un public lillois définitivement conquis par la proposition. Oui, Brutus était un choix audacieux, mais force est de constater que de la musique moins rentre dedans trouve également son public via des émotions fortes transmises par une formation au sommet de son art. Autant vous dire qu’on attend le prochain album avec impatience!

Il est l’heure d’accueillir Architects sur scène, et première surprise d’entrée : exit les écrans de la dernière tournée (et on ne va pas s’en plaindre) pour le retour à une scénographie plus épurée magnifiée par des lumières magistrales d’entrée de jeu! Le groupe de Brighton démarre en force avec « When We Were Young » qui sera évidemment repris par un public aux anges de voir les Anglais jouer ailleurs qu’à Paris! On verra d’ailleurs que beaucoup ont fait le déplacement depuis la capitale pour ne pas manquer cette date. « Whiplash » dévoile toute sa puissance en live et montre que malgré les années passant la bande à Sam Carter (chant) et Dan Searle (batterie) n’a de cesse de sortir des tubes en puissance! « Giving Blood » et « Brain Dead » continuent de faire monter l’énergie avec une fosse toujours plus en fusion, mais malheureusement on verra Sam tomber à genoux et se relever difficilement. Le set est mis en pause et le musicien part en coulisse et reviens posé sur une chaise, suite à une blessure au mollet. Faisant une blague sur Dave Grohl qui avait continué un concert avec une jambe cassée, il nous annonce que le show sera bien mené à son terme ce soir. Et c’est avec « Deep Fake », avec un public encore plus enclin à soutenir la formation après cet évènement, que le concert repart de plus belle. Le dernier album en date, The Sky, The Earth & All Between est évidemment largement mis en avant, et les nouveaux titres sont déjà bien connus de tous! Il est temps de retrouver un titre qui se classe pour nous parmi les meilleurs de la formation, « Impermanence »! La ligne de basse de Alex Dean sur « Meteor » annonce au public qu’un tube immanquable arrive, et l’accueil sera encore une fois toujours aussi énergique. Malgré un Sam Carter diminué physiquement par sa blessure, le concert ne perd pas en puissance loin de là. En effet la performance vocale du chanteur est impressionnante et ne manque pas de force tout au long du set avec des screams et clairs parfaitement audibles grâce au superbe son proposé par la formation. « Everything Ends » sera jouée pour la première fois ce soir et clairement ce titre se classe dans les meilleurs de leur dernière sortie. « Black Lungs » et « Royal Beggars » laissent aux deux guitaristes l’occasion de nous proposer leurs meilleurs riffs. Dan descendra aux côtés de Sam pour remercier le public de son accueil et de son soutien sans faille. Le show reprend avec une version coupée de « Gone With The Wind » proposée en acoustique qui ne manquera pas de nous coller des frissons. Puis le mythique « Doomsday » sera une fois de plus repris en chœur par tout le Zénith! Le groupe annonce la fin avec « Black Hole » qui laisse au public une dernière occasion de se lancer dans le pit! Après un rappel permettant à Sam de se poser quelques secondes alors que l’adrénaline redescend et que la douleur se fait toujours plus intense, revoilà le groupe sur scène pour quelques titres supplémentaires. C’est « Animals » qui viendra définitivement mettre fin à un concert définitivement parfait avec une dernière chorale du public lillois sur le refrain connu de tous! Les anglais quittent la scène visiblement ravis par l’accueil en promettant de revenir au plus vite pour un concert sans blessure!

Une fois encore Architects ont prouvé qu’ils sont un des grands groupes du metalcore! Le show, incroyable de bout en bout, n’a que peu souffert de la blessure du chanteur, à qui on souhaite évidemment un bon rétablissement. Une véritable leçon qui continue de nous faire nous demander où s’arrêtera l’ascencion des anglais. En tout cas on sera là pour trouver la réponse avec eux! Une date immanquable en tout point qui nous a confirmé notre amour pour tous les groupes à l’affiche.

On Monday evening, the Zénith in Lille plays host to a date we just couldn’t miss! It’s not often that you get to see one of the bands you’ve been following for years fill the Zeniths of France, and that’s exactly what Architects are doing on this tour. Accompanying them on this tour are Belgium’s Brutus and their compatriots Guilt Trip, who are becoming regulars on the Lille stages. The Zénith is packed to the rafters, and the evening promises to be a perfect one.

Guilt Trip, straight from Manchester, kick off the evening in front of an audience already ready to turn the Lille Zénith upside down. From ‘Tearing Your Life Away’ onwards, the powerful hardcore of the English band hits you in the face. Jay Valentine is in top form on vocals and gives his all to wake up the crowd, who clearly don’t need to be told twice. In a matter of seconds, the pit becomes a veritable combat zone, with fans of the genre showing off their talents for windmills and other athletic jumps. On stage, the musicians seemed delighted to be on such a large stage, and gave it their all. The energy of a track like ‘Sweet Dreams’ got everyone on the same wavelength before ‘Guil Trip’ turned the pit upside down once and for all. From the stands, you can enjoy a metallic hardcore show without a false note, showing that the style has its place in the biggest venues, and more than deserves it! The band still have a few tracks left to play, including ‘Severence’ and ‘Broken Wings’ from their latest album. ‘Thin Ice’ rounded off a set that was perfect from start to finish, allowing the band to be discovered by an ever-growing audience! It’s easy to imagine Guilt Trip playing a much bigger venue than the Brat Cave, which sold out last October. A great start to the evening!

Head for a much more post world with Belgium’s Brutus, who will calm things down but still captivate the Lille audience with their emotionally-charged music. The Belgian group is one of Architects’ Sam Carter‘s favourite bands, so much so that this is already the second tour they’ve shared together. ‘War‘ gets the set off to a great start, but it’s “Liar” that reminds us just how impressive Stefanie Mannaerts’ performance on drums and vocals really is. The emotions conveyed by her voice send shivers down our spines, as do the riffs and bass lines played by Stijn Vanhoegaerden and Peter Mulders respectively. The audience listens intently to the Belgian band, letting themselves be carried away by their captivating tracks. ‘What Have We Done’ continues to be one of the highlights of the set, and here too the crowd are moved to their very core. Stefanie thanked the audience for their warm welcome on several occasions, before launching into the now legendary ‘Victoria’, a song that had everyone singing along. The end was nigh, but ‘Paradise’, the trio’s latest track, left the audience revelling in a post-metal composition that was perfect from start to finish. The show ended with ‘Dust’, which was widely applauded by the Lille audience, who were definitely won over by the band’s performance. Yes, Brutus was a daring choice, but we have to admit that less straightforward music also finds its audience through the strong emotions conveyed by a band at the top of their game. We can’t wait to hear their next album!

It’s time to welcome Architects to the stage, and the first surprise is that the screens from the last tour are gone (and we’re not going to complain), and the stage is back to a more pared-down design, magnified by masterful lighting from the outset! The Brighton band kicked things off with a bang with ‘When We Were Young’, which was obviously covered by an audience overjoyed to see the English band playing somewhere other than Paris! It’s clear that a lot of fans have made the trip from the capital to see the band. ‘Whiplash’ reveals all its power live, showing that despite the passing years, the band led by Sam Carter (vocals) and Dan Searle (drums) are still churning out powerhouse hits! ‘Giving Blood’ and “Brain Dead” continue to raise the energy level with an ever-melting crowd, but unfortunately Sam falls to his knees and struggles to get up again. The set is paused and the musician goes backstage and comes back resting on a chair after injuring his calf. Making a joke about Dave Grohl continuing a concert with a broken leg, he announces that the show will not be over tonight. And it’s with ‘Deep Fake’, with an audience even more inclined to support the band after this event, that the concert gets off to a flying start. The latest album, The Sky, The Earth & All Between, is obviously in the spotlight, and the new tracks are already well known to everyone! Now it’s time for one of the band’s best tracks, ‘Impermanence’! Alex Dean‘s bass line on ‘Meteor’ announces to the audience that an unstoppable hit is on its way, and the reception is once again as energetic as ever. Despite Sam Carter‘s physical decline due to injury, the concert did not lose any of its power, far from it. In fact, the singer’s vocal performance was impressive, with no shortage of power throughout the set, with his screams and clean vocals perfectly audible thanks to the superb sound provided by the band. ‘Everything Ends’ will be played for the first time this evening, and is clearly one of the best tracks from their latest release. ‘Black Lungs’ and “Royal Beggars” give the two guitarists a chance to show off their best riffs. Dan comes down to Sam‘s side to thank the audience for their warm welcome and unfailing support. The show resumed with a cut version of ‘Gone With The Wind’, performed acoustically and guaranteed to send shivers down our spines. Then the legendary ‘Doomsday’ is once again taken up in chorus by the entire Zénith! The band announce the end with ‘Black Hole’, giving the audience one last chance to throw themselves into the pit! After an encore allowing Sam to rest for a few seconds as the adrenalin subsided and the pain became more intense, the band returned to the stage for a few more songs. It’s ‘Animals’ that finally brings a perfect concert to a close, with a final choir from the Lille crowd to the chorus we all know! The English band leave the stage visibly delighted by the reception, promising to return as soon as possible for an injury-free concert!

Once again Architects proved that they are one of the great metalcore bands! The show, incredible from start to finish, was only slightly affected by the singer’s injury, to whom we obviously wish a speedy recovery. A real lesson that continues to make us wonder where the English band’s ascent will end. In any case, we’ll be there to find the answer with them! An unmissable date in every way, confirming our love for all the bands on the bill.
