Association émergente dans la métropole lilloise, Assaut Productions nous a fait le plaisir de ramener les Suédois de Oh Hiroshima à la Bulle Café le 19 avril. Et pour les accompagner, rien de moins que les hongrois de Törzs. Une soirée sous le signe du post-rock, avec deux groupes signés chez Pelagic Records, qui a rassemblé bon nombre d’amateurs. Date immanquable pour Sounding Shivers, partenaire de l’évènement!

Törzs ouvre donc la soirée face à une salle déjà bien remplie. Le trio vient nous livrer un post rock instrumental des plus planants. Par leurs mélodies, les musiciens nous font passer diverses émotions, tout en nous faisant voyager, loin dans nos pensées. Le rythme semble parfois s’emballer pour nous redéposer rapidement, notamment dans “Negyedik”. Les compositions sont variées. Le son clair et net nous permet de profiter au mieux de la proposition. Törzs semble parfois nous raconter des histoires de songe et de rêverie. Ils apportent un moment de douceur au sein de cette société étouffante, notamment chez eux, en Hongrie. La setlist fait la part belle à Tükör, dernier album studio du groupe, sorti en 2019 déjà. Mais on découvre aussi des titres piochés dans la discographie des hongrois. Ainsi nous assistons à la prestation live de “Levegövétel”, dernier single en date. Le public est totalement absorbé et le silence quasi religieux qui règne dans la salle témoigne de l’écoute attentive de chacun. Les rythmes lents nous aspirent à ralentir également, à sortir de l’empressement de la vie et à prendre un temps presque introspectif. Ici le temps s’écoule différemment, au gré des compositions de Törzs. On vit un moment totalement suspendu, difficile à retranscrire tant il est dans le vécu des émotions. “A Földön” clôt le set avec des passages un peu plus rythmés, mais nous ramène toutefois en douceur à la fin de ce concert exceptionnel. 

Le public nombreux attend de pied ferme les suédois de Oh Hiroshima. La Bulle est remplie de fans de post-rock. Les compositions du groupe nousth enchantent rapidement. Les parties instrumentales planantes se mêlent à la voix posée de Jakob Hemström. Rapidement, le quatuor nous emmène dans un univers parallèle, prolongeant ce sentiment hors du temps que nous vivions juste avant. Oh Hiroshima propose des sonorités à la fois totalement planantes et très ancrées. Ici aussi, on vogue dans la riche discographie du groupe. “Holding Rivers” nous apporte un côté Pink Floyd, tandis que par moments, à l’instar de “Deluge”, les rythmes se font si lents et les sons si graves, que l’on pourrait poindre vers des influences doom. Oh Hiroshima joue avec les sons, les intensités, les ambiances. Des samples viennent parfois agrémenter l’ensemble. La guitare de Leif Eliasson nous balance pléthore d’émotions, à la fois douces et mélancoliques. Certains riffs restent gravés dans nos mémoires par leur force mélodique. Le set monte très doucement en intensité et rythme avec notamment “Richard D. Anderson” qui apporte sa touche psyché à l’expérience. “Secret Youth” fait une parfaite transition avant que “Ascension” ne nous ramène dans une totale introspection. Non sans émotion, nous assistons au dernier titre de la tournée, avec “Drones”, dans un moment suspendu, planant, bien au-dessus de tout ce qui peut exister dehors. Le titre long nous permet de profiter de tout le talent des suédois le plus possible. 

Il s’est passé quelque chose de très fort lors de cette soirée à La Bulle avec Törzs. Les hongrois ont su créer une atmosphère où toutes les émotions étaient présentes et accueillies. Oh Hiroshima nous ont quant à eux éblouis par leur technicité et leur génie créatif, explorant toutes les facettes du post-rock. Les deux groupes ont, chacun à leur manière, réussi à faire vibrer notre corde sensible. Une très belle soirée que nous garderons longtemps en mémoire.

An up-and-coming association in the Lille area, Assaut Productions were delighted to bring Sweden’s Oh Hiroshima back to Bulle Café on April 19th. And to accompany them, nothing less than Hungary’s Törzs. It was an evening of post-rock with two bands from Pelagic Records’ roaster that drew a large number of fans. An unmissable date for Sounding Shivers, partner of the event!

Törzs opens the evening to an already packed house. The trio’s instrumental post rock is as soaring as it gets. Through their melodies, the musicians convey a range of emotions, taking us on a journey far from our thoughts. The rhythm sometimes seems to spiral out of control, only to set us down again quickly, particularly in “Negyedik”. The compositions are varied. The clear, crisp sound allows us to get the most out of what’s on offer. Törzs sometimes seem to be telling us stories of dreams and reverie. They bring a moment of gentleness to this stifling society, particularly at home in Hungary. The setlist gives pride of place to Tükör, the band’s latest studio album, released in 2019. But there are also tracks taken from the Hungarians’ discography. For example, we see a live performance of “Levegövétel”, the band’s latest single. The audience is totally absorbed, and the almost religious silence that reigns in the room testifies to everyone’s attentive listening. The slow rhythms beckon us to slow down too, to get out of the rush of life and take some almost introspective time. Time flows differently here, to the tune of Törzs‘ compositions. It’s a totally suspended moment, difficult to transcribe because it’s so much about the emotions involved. ‘A Földön’ brings the set to a close with some slightly more rhythmic passages, but nonetheless brings us gently back to the end of this exceptional concert.

The large audience is waiting with bated breath for the Swedes from Oh Hiroshima. La Bulle is packed with post-rock fans. The band’s compositions quickly enchant. The soaring instrumental parts mingle with Jakob Hemström’s calm voice. The quartet quickly take us into a parallel universe, prolonging the timeless feeling we were experiencing just before. Oh Hiroshima offers sounds that are both totally soaring and deeply rooted. Here, too, we sail through the band’s rich discography. ‘Holding Rivers’ has a Pink Floyd feel to it, while at times, like on Deluge, the rhythms are so slow and the sounds so low, you could be forgiven for thinking they might be doom-influenced. Oh Hiroshima plays with sounds, intensities and moods. Samples are sometimes added to the mix. Leif Eliasson‘s guitar delivers a plethora of emotions, both gentle and melancholy. Some of the riffs remain etched in our memories for their melodic power. The set gently builds in intensity and rhythm, with ‘Richard D. Anderson’ adding a psychedelic touch to the experience. ‘Secret Youth’ makes a perfect transition before ‘Ascension’ takes us back into total introspection. Not without emotion, we witness the last track of the tour, with “Drones”, in a suspended, soaring moment, far above anything that might exist outside. The long track allows us to enjoy all the talent of the Swedes as much as possible.

The evening at La Bulle with Törzs was a powerful experience. The Hungarians created an atmosphere where every emotion was present and welcomed. Oh Hiroshima dazzled us with their technicality and creative genius, exploring every facet of post-rock. Both groups, each in their own way, managed to strike a chord with us. It was a wonderful evening that we’ll remember for a long time to come!
