Fraîchement signés dans l’écurie Pelagic Records, les hongrois de Törzs sont déjà implantés dans notre coeur, depuis notre première rencontre avec eux en décembre 2023 à Anvers. Un petit passage par Lille le mois dernier, et nous voici prêts à découvrir Menedék, leur troisième album studio. Un album post rock qui vous invite à prendre refuge avec eux dans ce monde à la dérive.

Cela faisait 6 ans que les hongrois de Törzs n’avaient pas sorti d’album. Un dernier album impressionnant, enregistré au fin fond d’une grotte de l’Unesco, qui a eu le temps de faire ses preuves en live, notamment en compagnie de Oh Hiroshima, et de nombreux autres superbes artistes comme hubris ou maybeshewill. Comme un coup de foudre musical, Törzs ont su nous toucher en plein cœur et cette semaine, nous les retrouvons avec un nouvel album qui viendra s’annonce encore plus puissant. A noter que leur batteur Zsombor Lehoczky a pris part à l’écriture de cet album, avant de s’éclipser et laisser la place à Tamás Szijártó. 

Pour ce nouvel opus, on reste dans des compositions 100% instrumentales, venant chercher les émotions au fond de nous avec patience. Prenez le temps de fermer les yeux. Quel est le lieu, l’endroit où vous vous sentez en sécurité et en paix ? Cet endroit où votre âme est apaisée et où vous êtes entourés de ce que vous aimez : c’est ce que nous recherchons ici. Menedék se traduit par « refuge ». Nos refuges peuvent se trouver en pleine nature, dans une forêt, comme sur la pochette de cet album, qui se transforme en une maison où le soleil transperce les vitres et déposant une couche de chaleur sur notre peau. Vous l’aurez compris, on s’aventure dans un album où la paix intérieure nous invite à nous sentir chez nous. « Egy pillanatban a végtelen », traduisez « un moment infini », et ses 12 minutes appuie un sentiment de pureté et de douceur dans une composition lente et douce comme du miel fleuri. On se laisse doucement noyer dans ce monde jusqu’au très rock « Levegővétel ». Ce titre, beaucoup plus puissant nous force à mettre les pieds dans le plat et à observer ce qui nous entoure, en venant déposer couches par couches les éléments destructeurs de notre environnement, par une cacophonie poignante. Nous vous invitons à découvrir le superbe clip qui mets en image le vent par ses conséquences dans l’air.

Le changement est au cœur de ce titre, car le temps fait son œuvre sur les êtres humains, sur la nature, mais aussi sur nos relations, nos besoins et nos envies. Avec « Átfordul », la batterie sonne les secondes du temps qui passe, nous invitant à tourner la page sur le passé. « Földet ér » nous offre l’expérience de se reconnecter avec la nature, en touchant le sol de nos pieds nus jusqu’au superbe « Otthon » (traduisez « domicile ») qui clôture l’album. Ce dernier titre a pourtant été choisi comme premier single de cet album, et je pense que ce choix s’est fait par la puissance qu’à ce titre. Il illustre parfaitement l’expérience que Törzs essaye de donner à l’auditeur : l’inviter à fermer les yeux et se délecter de chaque note de musique qui trouve sa place dans notre esprit.

Törzs nous offre avec Menedék un moment d’introspection pour donner une définition à ce qu’on appelle « être à la maison ». Instrumental et pourtant d’une richesse folle dans sa thématique, les hongrois scellent tout leur talent et leur place de choix dans la scène post rock.

Newly signed to the Pelagic Records label, Hungarians Törzs have already established themselves in our hearts, since our first meeting with them in December 2023 in Antwerp. A short stopover in Lille last month, and we’re ready to discover Menedék, their third studio album. A post-rock album that invites you to take refuge with them in this drifting world.

It’s been 6 years since the Hungarian band Törzs last released an album. An impressive latest album, recorded in the depths of a Unesco cave, which has had time to prove itself live, notably in the company of Oh Hiroshima, and many other superb artists such as hubris or maybeshewill. Like a bolt from the blue, Törzs have touched our hearts, and this week they’re back with a new album that promises to be even more powerful. Their drummer Zsombor Lehoczky took part in the writing of this album, before stepping aside to make way for Tamás Szijártó.

On this new opus, the compositions remain 100% instrumental, patiently seeking out the emotions deep within us. Take the time to close your eyes. What’s the place where you feel safe and at peace? That place where your soul is soothed and you’re surrounded by what you love: that’s what we’re looking for here. Menedék translates as “refuge”. Our refuges can be found in the middle of nature, in a forest, as on the cover of this album, which transforms into a house where the sun pierces the windows and deposits a layer of warmth on our skin. As you’ll have gathered, we’re venturing into an album where inner peace invites us to feel at home. “Egy pillanatban a végtelen”, translated as ‘an infinite moment’, and its 12 minutes support a feeling of purity and gentleness in a composition as slow and soft as blossoming honey. We gently let ourselves drown in this world until the rocking “Levegővétel”. This much more powerful track forces us to put our feet down and observe what surrounds us, coming to lay down the destructive elements of our environment layer by layer, through a poignant cacophony. We invite you to take a look at this superb music video, which shows the effects of wind in the air.

Change is at the heart of this track, as time takes its toll on human beings, on nature, but also on our relationships, our needs and our desires. With “Átfordul”, the drums sound the seconds of time passing, inviting us to turn the page on the past. “Földet ér” offers us the experience of reconnecting with nature, touching the ground with our bare feet, until the superb ‘Otthon’ (translate ‘home’) closes the album. This last track was chosen as the first single from the album, and I think it was chosen because of its power. It perfectly illustrates the experience Törzs is trying to give the listener: inviting them to close their eyes and revel in every note of music that finds its way into our minds.

With Menedék, Törzs offers us a moment of introspection to define what it means to be “home”. Instrumental yet insanely rich in theme, the Hungarians seal their talent and place in the post-rock scene.
