Nous voilà de retour à l’Aéronef, en configuration Club. Nous y découvrons ainsi Projector, trio anglais de post punk. Et surtout, on vient écouter en live les nantais de Treaks, dont l’album EGO nous avait totalement séduits! Le 11 octobre était placé sous le signe du post punk sans aucun doute !

C’est avec une impatience non dissimulée que l’on démarre cette soirée. L’album EGO de Treaks est est un coup de cœur absolu parmi les sorties de l’année. Les hostilités sont lancées avec “AGAINST THE WALL”. Clothilde est totalement possédée. Son chant au timbre très particulier crée une ambiance unique. Le côté revendicatif du groupe s’entend dans chaque note, chaque riff, chaque rythmique. Une colère émane de leurs compositions, qui ont chacune leur identité. On enchaîne avec les titres de leur opus comme “QUEEN” ou “SLEEP APART” qui prône le droit à vivre comme on le désire, hors des diktats de la société. “DIRTY” confirme totalement son éclat sur scène. Entre passages sombres, torturés et son refrain puissant avec un riff de guitare marquant, tous les ingrédients sont réunis ! Théophane gère à la fois la basse et le clavier avec brio. Cela permet une vraie richesse dans les sonorités, tout en jouant absolument tout en live. “Smiling” offre une proposition plus sombre, avec une tonalité plus grave que ce soit dans la voix ou les instrus. A la batterie, Owen (batterie) adapte sa puissance au gré des titres, assurant une rythmique solide mais pas imposante. “EGO” est dédiée à toutes les queens de ce monde. Le groupe prouve encore son engagement féministe avec “TINY BRAIN” adressé à toutes les personnes qui semblent, en 2025, ne toujours pas vouloir comprendre le principe de consentement éclairé. Le titre est particulièrement efficace, fait de répétitions et de boucles au niveau instrumental. Clothilde nous y adresse un cri fort et puissant, empli d’exaspération et de ras le bol. Elle descend dans la fosse pour y interpeller le public, passant du chuchotement au cri. Avec “ANATOMY LESSON”, Treaks incorpore des éléments très électro à son post punk. L’ensemble du concert est totalement efficace, avec un rythme effréné qui embarque totalement le public. On vient de confirmer notre coup de coeur pour Treaks! 

On découvre ensuite PROJECTOR, groupe formé en 2018 à Brighton. On remarque d’emblée une similitude d’attitude entre Clothilde (Treaks) et Lucy (basse, chant). De plus, le groupe est également un trio et évolue dans le post-punk. L’enchaînement des deux groupes colle donc parfaitement ! Là aussi, la formation est engagée et prend position, notamment, contre le génocide Palestinien. Avec PROJECTOR, on laisse un peu de côté l’aspect déjanté et possédé, et on est davantage sur un post punk posé. Des éléments plus pop rendent l’ensemble très accessible à un large public. Le son saturé crée un contraste plaisant avec la voix posée d’Edward. La reverb nous embarque dans un univers très post. Les titres posés, avec des rythmiques chill, et la configuration Club engendrent une atmosphère intimiste, parfaite pour profiter des compositions du groupe. On profite également de passages plus mélodiques. Par moments, la voix de Lucy vient se mêler à celle d’Edward, et même, sur certains titres, prendre le lead. Cela amène une dynamique intéressante, et des nuances appréciables. Le set monte tranquillement mais sûrement en intensité et les titres viennent se faire plus rythmés. On bouge la tête, puis tout le corps au gré des compositions se faisant plus dansantes mais aussi plus incisives. PROJECTOR mêle le côté old school et moderne avec un talent indéniable. Après des remerciements appuyés, le groupe nous offre un final électrique avec “Zero”. Et pour sa première fois à Lille, la formation s’offre même un rappel bien énervé dans lequel Lucy envoie son plus beau cri ! 

Les deux trios de la soirée, aux univers à la fois différents et se rejoignant pourtant, ont totalement conquis le public de ce samedi soir. Les émotions et les messages puissants véhiculés par leurs compositions ont su nous toucher et nous prendre aux tripes. On fonce d’ailleurs écouter Contempt, dernier album de PROJECTOR sorti début octobre ! Et on vous donne vite rendez-vous avec Treaks pour une riche interview post concert.

Here we are back at L’Aéronef, in Club configuration. We discover Projector, an English post-punk trio. And above all, we come to listen to Treaks from Nantes live, whose album EGO completely won us over! October 11th was undoubtedly all about post-punk!

We start the evening with undisguised impatience. Treaks‘ album EGO is one of our absolute favourites among this year’s releases. Hostilities commence with ‘AGAINST THE WALL’. Clothilde is completely possessed. Her distinctive voice creates a unique atmosphere. The band’s rebellious spirit can be heard in every note, every riff, every rhythm. Anger emanates from their compositions, each of which has its own identity. They followed up with tracks from their album such as ‘QUEEN’ and ‘SLEEP APART’, which advocate the right to live as one wishes, free from the dictates of society. ‘DIRTY’ fully confirmed their brilliance on stage. Between dark, tortured passages and a powerful chorus with a striking guitar riff, all the ingredients are there! Théophane brilliantly handles both the bass and the keyboard. This allows for a real richness in sound, while playing absolutely everything live. ‘Smiling’ offers a darker proposal, with a lower tone in both the vocals and the instruments. On drums, Owen adapts his power to suit each track, providing a solid but not overbearing rhythm. ‘EGO’ is dedicated to all the queens of this world. The band further proves its feminist commitment with ‘TINY BRAIN’, addressed to all those who, in 2025, still seem unwilling to understand the principle of informed consent. The track is particularly effective, with its instrumental repetitions and loops. Clothilde delivers a strong and powerful cry, filled with exasperation and frustration. She descends into the pit to engage with the audience, switching from whispers to shouts. With ‘ANATOMY LESSON’, Treaks incorporates strong electro elements into their post-punk sound. The whole concert is totally effective, with a frenetic rhythm that completely captivates the audience. We have just confirmed our love for Treaks!

Next, we discover PROJECTOR, a band formed in 2018 in Brighton. We immediately notice a similarity in attitude between Clothilde (Treaks) and Lucy (bass, vocals). What’s more, the band is also a trio and plays post-punk. The two bands therefore fit together perfectly! Here too, the band is committed and takes a stand, particularly against the Palestinian genocide. With PROJECTOR, we leave the crazy and possessed aspect aside a little and focus more on a more laid-back post-punk sound. More pop elements make the whole thing very accessible to a wide audience. The saturated sound creates a pleasant contrast with Edward’s calm voice. The reverb takes us into a very post-punk universe. The calm tracks, with chill rhythms, and the club setting create an intimate atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the band’s compositions. There are also more melodic passages. At times, Lucy’s voice blends with Edward’s, and on some tracks even takes the lead. This creates an interesting dynamic and appreciable nuances. The set quietly but surely builds in intensity and the tracks become more rhythmic. We nod our heads, then move our whole bodies to the increasingly danceable but also more incisive compositions. PROJECTOR blends old school and modern with undeniable talent. After heartfelt thanks, the band treats us to an electric finale with ‘Zero’. And for their first time in Lille, the band even treats us to an energetic encore in which Lucy lets out her most beautiful scream!

The two trios of the evening, with their different yet similar styles, completely won over the audience on Saturday night. The powerful emotions and messages conveyed by their compositions touched us and grabbed us by the gut. We can’t wait to listen to Contempt, PROJECTOR‘s latest album, released in early October!
