Louis Lourme, loin de son groupe Big Death Amego, a crée Caves, un projet musical orienté drone et noise. Une aventure solo nous montrant une autre facette du musicien lillois. Après un premier EP en 2023, il revient avec sa deuxième sortie intitulé A Compilation Of Noises (And A Few Songs In Between), disponible le 6 mars prochain via Industrie Musicale et CNVX_RCRDS. Autant vous dire qu’on est prêts à plonger dans cette nouvelle sortie d’un musicien qu’on adore!

L’EP s’ouvre sur des sons drone et de multiples effets de reverb et autres delays. On sent que dans ce nouveau disque de Caves, le musicien veut prendre le temps d’installer ses ambiances et c’est réussi. On se croirait presque dans une BO d’un film étrange et dérangeant! La guitare est utilisée ici dans sa totalité. Chaque son montre la versatilité de cet instrument et sa possibilité d’aller beaucoup plus loin que la création d’un riff! Les drones reviennent en fin de morceau et nous voilà plongés en quelques minutes dans un son puissant qui vient nous intriguer. L’instrument est utilisé bien plus conventionnellement dans « Echoes Of A Lost Consciousness », avec en bonus un son en fond qui nous ferait presque penser à un oiseau dans la forêt. Encore une fois le travail sur les ambiances et les textures sonores est impressionnant et nous envoute. L’autre force de ce titre est la présence de silences, extrêmement signifiants. Vient ensuite un titre plus orienté acoustique. « A Song In Between » porte bien son titre puisqu’il ressemble plus à un titre plus classique, mais sans pour autant verser dans la simplicité de composition. L’émotion est toujours bien présente et vient une fois de plus nous attraper. Impossible de ne pas citer SunO))) pour le titre « ///bells » tant le drone est présent et fort dans nos oreilles. La présence de sons de Kalimba intrigue et nous montre que Louis a voulu expérimenter toujours plus loin pour un son des plus enveloppants. Toujours à cheval entre noise, drone et sons travaillés le dernier titre de cet EP confirme ce qu’on pense de puis le début. La guitare est habitée, plus grave et toujours travaillée à coup d’effets ou de son triturés. On sent vraiment l’envie d’expérimenter jusqu’au bout sans jamais perdre ce qui fait de la musique une invitation au voyage.
Avec A Compilation Of Noises (And A Few Songs In Between), le deuxième EP de son projet Caves, Louis Lourme nous offre une belle vision d’auteur de la musique. On sent ses influences variées dans chaque titre, mais ce disque garde une identité forte qui vient toucher l’auditeur et lui laisser libre choix de choisir ce qu’il y trouve et ce que ces morceaux racontent. Une bien belle sortie qui montre une fois de plus que la scène lilloise regorge de talent. On espère fort que ce projet trouvera le chemin du live car on a déjà quelques belles idées d’autres artistes avec qui il pourrait partager la scène. Louis Lourme, having left his band Big Death Amego, has created Caves, a drone and noise-oriented musical project. This solo adventure reveals another side of the Lille-based musician. After a first EP in 2023, he returns with his second release, A Compilation Of Noises (And A Few Songs In Between), available March 6th via Industrie Musicale and CNVX_RCRDS. Needless to say, we’re ready to dive into this new release from a musician we adore!
The EP opens with drone sounds and multiple reverb and delay effects. It’s clear that on this new Caves album, the musician wants to take the time to set the mood, and he succeeds. It’s almost like listening to the soundtrack of a strange and disturbing film! The guitar is used to its full potential here. Each sound demonstrates the versatility of this instrument and its potential to go much further than just creating a riff! The drones return at the end of the track, and within a few minutes we are immersed in a powerful sound that intrigues us. The instrument is used much more conventionally in ‘Echoes Of A Lost Consciousness’, with the added bonus of a background sound that almost makes us think of a bird in the forest. Once again, the work on the atmospheres and sound textures is impressive and captivating. The other strength of this track is the presence of extremely meaningful silences. Next comes a more acoustic-oriented track. ‘A Song In Between’ lives up to its title, as it resembles a more classic track, but without falling into simplicity of composition. The emotion is still very much present and once again grabs hold of us. It’s impossible not to mention SunO))) for the track ‘///bells’, as the drone is so present and strong in our ears. The presence of Kalimba sounds intrigues us and shows us that Louis wanted to experiment even further to create a more enveloping sound. Still straddling noise, drone and processed sounds, the last track on this EP confirms what we’ve thought from the beginning. The guitar is haunting, deeper and still processed with effects and distorted sounds. You can really feel the desire to experiment to the fullest without ever losing what makes music an invitation to travel.
With A Compilation Of Noises (And A Few Songs In Between), the second EP from his project Caves, Louis Lourme offers us a beautiful vision of music. His varied influences can be felt in each track, but this record retains a strong identity that touches the listener and leaves them free to choose what they find in it and what these songs tell them. A beautiful release that shows once again that the Lille scene is brimming with talent. We really hope that this project will find its way to the live stage, as we already have some great ideas for other artists with whom he could share the stage. Fans of little musical gems, go and discover this record!
