Liv Del Estal occupe notre playlist depuis un moment, et encore plus depuis son concert en mars à La Bulle. Le mois dernier, c’est avec émotion qu’elle a annoncé son premier EP : Fragile Hardcore qui sera disponible ce 24 avril. La chanteuse a quitté son label pour enfin embrasser la musique qui lui ressemble : une talky trance, comme elle l’appelle, un mélange de trance nostalgique, eurodance et techno avec des visuels qui nous ramène presque dans les années 2000.

Composé de six titres, Fragile Hardcore permet à Liv Del Estal de s’affirmer pleinement tel qu’elle souhaite être. Cinq des morceaux sont déjà parus au cours des dernières années. On y retrouve « La Chica Tamagotchi » qui ouvre le bal, un titre qui donne le ton autant qu’il en devient addictif, parfait pour danser dès les premières secondes. Vient ensuite le titre éponyme, plus doux, plus intime, qui nous fait pourtant taper du pied ; la chanteuse y assume pleinement ses peurs et ses doutes, le titre du morceau (et donc de cet EP) parle de lui-même. « Space Invaders », sorti il y a deux ans tout pile, est l’un des premiers morceaux où Liv Del Estal s’éloigne de la pop qui composait son premier album et son ancien univers. Plus orienté vers le côté électro, l’électro-pop de la chanteuse nous emmène dans un univers nocturne et cosmic, nous faisant danser pour s’éloigner de la réalité tout en gardant une vraie justesse dans les sentiments : on s’évade les yeux ouverts. « Cœur Titane » prolonge cette atmosphère rêveuse, quelque peu futuriste. Le beat confie à Liv Del Estal la possibilité de nous livrer le poids de son cœur sous la lumière des gyrophares.
Le calme prend fin avec « Minable », qui accélère largement le rythme mais nous rappelle aussi des moments de vie qu’on aurait pu éviter, ou qu’on aurait aimé pouvoir éviter avec une simplicité désarmante; c’est ce qui fait qu’on s’y reconnaît tous. « País » clôture cet EP : l’électro prend d’abord de la distance pour laisser place à une mélodie à la guitare, avant que Liv Del Estal ne se mette à chanter en espagnol. Le beat assourdi revient rapidement, comme un battement de cœur. C’est le seul titre qui n’avait pas encore été révélé, mais aussi le seul qui n’est pas en français. On y sent une fragilité et une intimité qui viennent vibrer et résonner en nous pour un final grandiose.
Fragile Hardcore permet à Liv Del Estal d’offrir à son public une œuvre à son image, entre nostalgie et science-fiction, avec une identité visuelle entre manga et jeux vidéo. Ce territoire hybride devient son terrain de jeu, qu’elle semble déjà parfaitement maîtriser ; et pourtant, on sait qu’elle ne s’arrêtera pas là. Après avoir fait danser La Bulle Café et rempli le Trabendo à Paris, Liv Del Estal se fait, presque silencieusement, une place dans nos cœurs de fragile hardcore. On a pu la voir sur scène lors de son premier passage à Lille, et on ne manquera pas le prochain mais pour l’instant le rendez-vous prévu se fait à Paris à l’Elysée-Montmartre en novembre.

Liv Del Estal has been a staple on our playlist for a while now, and even more so since her concert in March at La Bulle. Last month, she was thrilled to announce her debut EP, Fragile Hardcore, which will be released on April 24th. The singer has left her label to finally embrace the music that truly reflects her: ‘talky trance’, as she calls it – a blend of nostalgic trance, Eurodance and techno, with visuals that almost transport us back to the 2000s.

Comprising six tracks, Fragile Hardcore allows Liv Del Estal to fully express herself as she wishes to be. Five of the tracks have already been released over the past few years. The album opens with ‘La Chica Tamagotchi’, a track that sets the tone whilst becoming utterly addictive – perfect for dancing from the very first seconds. Next comes the title track, softer and more intimate, yet still makes us tap our feet; in which the singer fully embraces her fears and doubts; the track’s title (and thus that of this EP) speaks for itself. “Space Invaders”, released exactly two years ago, is one of the first tracks where Liv Del Estal moves away from the pop that characterised her debut album and her former sound. With a stronger electro influence, the singer’s electro-pop takes us into a nocturnal and cosmic world, making us dance to escape reality whilst remaining true to our feelings: we escape with our eyes wide open. “Cœur Titane” extends this dreamy, somewhat futuristic atmosphere. The beat gives Liv Del Estal the chance to lay bare the weight of her heart under the glow of flashing lights.
The calm comes to an end with ‘Minable’, which significantly picks up the pace but also reminds us, with disarming simplicity, of moments in life we could have avoided – or wish we could have avoided; that’s why we can all relate to it. ‘País’ brings this EP to a close: the electro sound initially fades into the background to make way for a guitar melody, before Liv Del Estal begins to sing in Spanish. The muffled beat returns quickly, like a heartbeat. It is the only track that hadn’t yet been revealed, but also the only one not in French. There is a fragility and intimacy that resonate within us, building to a grand finale.
Fragile Hardcore allows Liv Del Estal to offer her audience a work that reflects her own image, somewhere between nostalgia and science fiction, with a visual identity that blends manga and video games. This hybrid territory becomes her playground, which she already seems to master perfectly; and yet, we know she won’t stop there. Having got La Bulle Café dancing and filled the Trabendo in Paris, Liv Del Estal is, almost silently, carving out a place in our hearts with her fragile hardcore. We saw her on stage during her first visit to Lille, and we won’t miss the next one, but for now the scheduled date is in Paris at the Elysée-Montmartre in November.
