En 2007 Monolyth sortait Catch The Sun de manière assez confidentielle. 16 ans plus tard, le groupe décide de sortir une version totalement remaniée de cet album sous le titre We’ve Caught The Sun. L’album est dors et déjà disponible via Ellie Promotion et Season of Mist Distribution. Etant donné que je découvre ces morceaux avec cette version, je vais donc traiter cet album comme une toute nouvelle sortie et non comme une réédition, le groupe ayant un line-up différent de l’époque ainsi qu’un son plus moderne et tinté de sonorités électro.

On  commence avec le titre « The Neverending Beginning » qui démarre avec des voix lyriques avant de partir sur un death mélo bien énergique comme on aime. Les sons électro évoqués plus haut apportent un vrai plus aux compositions et distinguent le groupe des autres groupes de death mélo. Les morceaux suivant viennent ajouter une petite touche metalcore bienvenue également et on se laisse vite attraper par la qualité des compositions du groupe.

Leur album précédent m’avait marqué par sa qualité d’interprétation, celui-ci passe encore un niveau et on sent que l’intégration de Vanessa à la basse s’est parfaitement passée. Les parties de chant d’Amaury sont mémorables et montrent sa versatilité vocale entre chant clair et chant hurlé.

Le duo de guitare que forment Julien et Tristan est un pur bonheur à écouter. Chaque riff est ciselé avec précision et donne envie de se briser les cervicales en rythme.  Bien évidemment Batt n’est pas en reste derrière ses fûts et renforce cette envie frénétique d’headbanger tout au long de l’écoute.

Les morceaux « Breathe » et « Wasted » sont clairement mes préférés de l’album, mais chaque titre de ce nouvel album marque par sa qualité globale. Le groupe a une vraie force qui se traduit par des morceaux vers lesquels on a envie de retourner encore et encore.

On sent que chaque membre de la formation a mis tout son savoir faire dans cet album, et pour être allé écouter les versions d’origine de quelques titres, on sent vraiment tout le chemin parcouru par le groupe dans ces nouvelles interprétations. L’album se clôture avec l’excellent « Wallbanger » qui représente bien tout ce que le quintet a voulu envoyer avec cette sortie, des morceaux bien impactants comme il faut qui vont faire vibrer les murs de vos maison ou appartements respectifs!

 

Monolyth prouvent avec We’ve Caught The Sun qu’ils ont parcouru une longue route depuis leur débuts. Mais que celle-ci a permis à la formation de se solidifier et de proposer le meilleur d’elle-même sortie après sortie. On ne peux que vous conseiller de foncer écouter cet album si vous êtes amateurs de métal alliant mélodies implacables et rythmiques dantesques. Un véritable bonheur d’écoute qui confirme tout le bien que je pensais du groupe grâce à l’album précédent. Il ne me reste plus qu’à enfin les voir en live pour pouvoir me délecter d’une autre manière de ces superbes compositions!

In 2007 Monolyth released Catch The Sun in a rather confidential way. 16 years later, the band decided to release a totally reworked version of this album under the title We’ve Caught The Sun. The album is already available through Ellie Promotion and Season of Mist Distribution. Since I discover these tracks with this version, I will treat this album as a brand new release and not as a re-release, the band having a different line-up from the time and a more modern sound with electro tones.

 

We start with the title « The Neverending Beginning » which starts with lyrical voices before leaving on a very energetic death melo as we like. The electro sounds mentioned above bring a real plus to the compositions and distinguish the band from other death melo bands. The following tracks add a little metalcore touch and we are quickly caught by the quality of the band’s compositions.

Their previous album had marked me by its quality of interpretation, this one passes again a level and we feel that the integration of new bass player Vanessa went extreamly well. Amaury‘s singing parts are memorable and show his vocal versatility between clear and screamed singing.

The guitar duo of Julien and Tristan is a pure joy to listen to. Each riff is chiseled with precision and makes you want to break your neck in rhythm. Of course Batt is also mesmerizing behind his drums and reinforces this frenetic desire to headbang throughout the listening.

The tracks « Breathe » and « Wasted » are clearly my favorites of the album, but every track on this new album stands out for its overall quality. The band has a real strength that translates into tracks that you want to return to again and again.

You can feel that each member of the band has put all his knowledge in this album, and to have gone to listen to the original versions of some tracks, you can really feel all the way the band in these new interpretations. The album closes with the excellent « Wallbanger » which represents well all that the quintet wanted to send with this release, of the well impacting tracks as it is necessary which will make vibrate the walls of your respective houses or apartments!

 

Monolyth prove with We’ve Caught The Sun that they have travelled a long road since their beginnings. But this one allowed the band to solidify and to propose the best of itself release after release. We can only advise you to go and listen to this album if you are a fan of metal that combines relentless melodies and dantesque rhythms. A real listening pleasure that confirms all the good I thought of the band thanks to the previous album. All I have to do now is to see them live in order to enjoy these superb compositions in a different way!
