Cela fait des années que je suis le travail des américains de The Maine et leurs derniers albums m’avaient largement convaincus. C’est donc avec une grande hâte que je me plonge dans leur neuvième album sorti le 1er août dernier. Sobrement intitulé The Maine, il est disponible via Photo Finish Records.

Le premier morceau nous replonge dans l’univers de The Maine en quelques secondes. Très dansant « Dose No. 2 » est une très belle introduction à ce nouvel opus des américains. Les guitares de Jared Monaco et Kennedy Brock font du titre suivant un véritable hit qui n’aura aucun mal à devenir un passage obligé sur les prochains concerts du groupe. La voix de John O’Callaghan est toujours aussi reconnaissable et transmet toujours cet habile mélange de classe et de chant purement rock qui fait la force du groupe depuis ses débuts. Garrett Nickelsen (basse & synthés) et Patrick Kirch (batterie) vous feront sauter dans vos salons sur » Leave In Five » autant qu’ils vous proposeront des sons plus doux et tendres sur « Funny How? ». Cet album prend la route du meilleur de ce que les américains peuvent proposer, et après déjà huit albums c’est un véritable exploit. L’album nous refait voyager à nos années lycée avec des morceaux dignes des fêtes les plus folles qui ont marqués ces périodes de nos vies. Cette nouvelle sortie n’hésite pas à mettre beaucoup plus en avant le côté énergique du groupe, en délaissant un peu les morceaux plus calmes, mais ça n’est pas pour me déplaire. Une des véritables force des morceaux présentés ici, est qu’ils sont tous des tubes en puissance! On se laisse transporter par les petits interludes vocaux entre les morceaux, comme une petite narration liant les morceaux les uns aux autres pour en faire un album complet, pur reflet d’où le groupe en est aujourd’hui. La surprise musicale est véritablement le morceau « Cars & Caution Signs » qui du haut de ses 5 minutes nous fait découvrir une nouvelle facette du quintet.
Ce neuvième album de The Maine tient toutes ses promesses et nous montre que le groupe américain a encore de très belles choses à nous proposer. Les souvenirs de leurs concerts d’anthologie à Paris remontent et les nouvelles compositions donnent très envie de revivre ça au plus vite. On espère fort une véritable tournée française pour le groupe, et on leur souhaite le meilleur avec cette nouvelle sortie qui se hisse très haut dans leur discographie.

I’ve been following the work of American band The Maine for years now, and their last few albums really convinced me. So it was with great anticipation that I immersed myself in their ninth album, released on 1 August. Soberly entitled The Maine, it is available via Photo Finish Records.
The first track plunges us back into the world of The Maine in a matter of seconds. The danceable ‘Dose No. 2’ is a fine introduction to this new opus from the Americans. The guitars of Jared Monaco and Kennedy Brock make the following track a real hit, and it’s sure to become a must at the band’s next concerts. John O’Callaghan‘s voice is as recognisable as ever, and still conveys the skilful blend of class and pure rock vocals that have been the band’s strength since their beginnings. Garrett Nickelsen (bass & synths) and Patrick Kirch (drums) will have you jumping up and down in your living room on « Leave In Five », as much as they will offer you softer, more tender sounds on « Funny How? This album takes you on the road to the best the Americans have to offer, and after eight albums already, that’s no mean feat. The album takes us back to our high school years with tracks worthy of the wildest parties that marked those periods of our lives. This new release does not shy away from emphasising the band’s energetic side, leaving the calmer tracks to one side, but that’s not to my displeasure. One of the real strengths of the tracks presented here is that they’re all potential hits! You’re carried away by the little vocal interludes between the tracks, like a little narrative tying the songs together to make a complete album, a pure reflection of where the band is today. The musical surprise is really the 5-minute track ‘Cars & Caution Signs’, which reveals a new facet of the quintet.
The Maine‘s ninth album lives up to all its promises and shows us that the American band still has some great things to offer us. Memories of their anthology concerts in Paris come flooding back, and the new compositions make us want to relive them as soon as possible. We have high hopes of a real French tour for the band, and we wish them all the best with this new release, which rises very high in their discography.
