Troisième jour au Motocultor et cette fois-ci on est bien reposés, prêts à profiter pleinement de cette nouvelle journée chaudement ensoleillée. Encore une fois l’affiche du jour donne très envie, et on se dépêcher d’être au plus tôt sur le site pour profiter pleinement des installations et des food trucks variés. Bref une journée qui s’annonce excellente et qu’on a hâte de vous faire vivre! Au programme de ce jour : Bullet For My Valentine, Brutus, Amenra, Birds In Row, Sortilège, Russian Circles, Not Scientists, Penitence Onirique, Bleed From Within, OI Boys, Sylvaine, Rectal Smegma, et Watain.

Pøgø (Bruce Disckinscène)

On commence avec Pøgø, duo formé par des musiciens de Horskh et Tetra Hydro K. Ici c’est un set trap métal qui est proposé avec toujours Bastien au chant. Beaucoup ont voulu découvrir ce que le duo avait à proposer et semblent conquis par cette proposition unique. Malheureusement ça ne sera pas notre cas, à notre grand désespoir. Et nous quittons la Dickinscène triste de ne pas avoir adhéré au projet d’un musicien que nous adorons dans son autre formation.

Rectal Smegma (Dave Mustage)

Direction la Dave Mustage pour aller voir la fin du set des hollandais de Rectal Smegma. Leur gore grind semble avoir fait déjà des émules si on en croit l’ambiance dans la fosse. Leur musique est rapide, énergique et follement décadente. Un pur plaisir régressif qui laisse le public perdre quelques neurones au passage. Mais ne serait-ce pas ce que tout le monde attend d’un concert de ce genre? En tout cas le groupe y va à fond et nous montre que la scène hollandaise grind est en grande forme!

Sylvaine (Massey Ferguscène)

On part sur la Massey découvrir Sylvaine en live pour la toute première fois. On ne pouvait pas rater ce set chez Sounding Shivers, étant donné que dans les musiciens se trouve le copain lillois Maxime Mouquet (Queen (Ares), Coole Max)! Direction la barrière pour profiter pleinement du show! Le projet black shoegaze de la norvégienne Katherine Shepard va nous envouter en quelques secondes, et rapidement se classer dans nos meilleurs concerts du festival. Il faut dire que les quatre musiciens sur scène donnent tout et vont voyager nos âmes vers des contrés oniriques et sombres à la fois. L’immersion est totale et chaque note enchante nos oreilles. La chanteuse guitariste semble très émue par l’accueil réservé à son projet par le public de Carhaix. Les émotions sont belles et bien présentes de notre côté de la barrière, et on se demande pourquoi nous n’avons pas foncé voir le groupe plus tôt. Après un set passé beaucoup trop rapidement à notre goût, on se laisse transporter par une dernière pépite musicale servie par des musiciens au sommet de leur art et par la voix majestueuse de Katherine. Le groupe quitte la scène très largement applaudi et ayant totalement convaincu le public du festival! On ne manquera leurs prochains passages pour rien au monde!

Not Scientists (Bruce Dickinscène)

Il est temps de retrouver les Not Scientists, groupe qui nous a totalement conquis avec leur album sorti plus tôt cette année. Leur show entre new wave et punk est un plaisir pour les oreilles et nous donne envie de nous trémousser. Les morceaux de Staring At The Sun passent l’épreuve du live sans effort, et le public ne s’y trompe pas. Ed est toujours aussi efficace au chant et à la guitare et nous emporte dans une tornade d’énergie. Le groupe n’a pas volé son excellente réputation en live, et nous le prouve une fois encore! On passe un très beau moment en leur compagnie et on espère les retrouver très vite pour un set complet en tête d’affiche par chez nous!

Pénitence Onirique (Massey Ferguscène)

Ce concert on l’attendait de pied ferme depuis 2019! Première occasion pour nous de voir Pénitence Onirique en live et autant vous dire que dès les premières secondes le groupe va nous retourner les tripes. Leur black métal est introspectif à souhait et laisse nos émotions virevolter au fil des morceaux. Evidemment visuellement c’est un spectacle majestueux devant nous. Les masques des membres de la formation sont tous plus beaux les uns que les autres et nous emmènent un peu plus dans l’univers du groupe. La puissance de chaque morceau joué vient nous toucher en plein cœur, et il sera difficile de rester impassible devant tant de beauté et de force musicale. Un moment suspendu dans le temps qui aura là aussi marqué notre festival. On espère que la prochaine tournée du groupe s’arrêtera à Lille pour en profiter plus longuement.

Oï Boys (Bruce Dickinscène)

Assis entre les deux tentes, on profitera de l’audio du set de Oï Boys et de l’ambiance visuelle de la fosse. Le groupe réussira à nous convaincre juste par son énergie auditive. On suivra toute la prestation en se disant qu’on ne manquera un prochain passage pour rien au monde. Mais bravo les gars pour ce set énergiquement bon enfant qui a fait de notre pause un moment de joie très agréable!

Birds In Row (Massey Ferguscène)

La Massey accueille notre groupe phare de l’année écoulée, Birds In Row! On est prêts à s’égosiller au son des morceaux du trio de Laval. Les paroles résonnent en nous avec la même puissance que d’habitude. Le groupe toujours comme un seul homme raconte les travers de notre société avec force et ne laisse personne sur le carreau. Leur set ne laisse rien au hasard et continue de nous prouver l’excellente santé du trio. On saluera comme toujours les messages forts lancés par un Bart en état de grâce! Chaque titre joué nous retourne et éraille un peu plus notre voix déjà fatiguée, mais c’est pour la bonne cause! Birds In Row est un groupe à ne manquer sous aucun prétexte et le public du festival ne s’y est pas trompé et à crié, pleuré et chanté les paroles puissantes de « Noah » ou encore « Rodin ». Le groupe nous quitte sur « I Don’t Dance » qui vient mettre un point d’orgue à une prestation qui n’en avait pas manqué. Un pur plaisir qu’on veux revivre encore et encore! Rendez-vous à Béthune!

Un peu de métalcore ne fait jamais de mal, et c’est avec les écossais de Bleed From Within qu’on va se rappeler ce bel adage. Scott Kennedy est un frontman hors pair et se met le public dans la poche en quelques secondes. Les morceaux du groupe sont modernes, puissants et font bouger le public, que demander de plus? La prestation est excellente et nous laisse prendre en pleine face la musique du groupe de Glasgow. Bleed From Within ont livré une prestation de grande qualité qui montre que le metalcore a tout autant sa place que les autres genres sur le festival, et le public a clairement compris le message!

Sortilège (Massey Ferguscène)

Déjà pendant les balances on entendait le public de la Massey s’époumoner en choeur sur « Messager », prêt à accueillir les légendes de Sortilège comme il se doit. Leur album sorti cette année, a montré que le groupe de heavy français avait encore de très belles cordes à son arc. Christian ‘Zouille’ Augustin chante toujours aussi bien et commande la foule comme jamais. L’ambiance est excellente et montre que le public de tous âges est toujours prêt pour profiter d’un set de Sortilège! Impossible de ne pas se laisser emporter par la ferveur de la foule et de la scène. Sur « Attila », Stéphane Buriez (présent sur le festival avec son projet Tribute To Thrash) viendra donner de la voix avec Christian pour un duo de légende! Chaque titre est l’occasion pour la formation de montrer que le line-up actuel est indiscutablement un des meilleurs de l’histoire du groupe. Le groupe s’amuse et nous montre tout son talent titre après titre! Un set qui marquera le festival de beaucoup, et qui laisse imaginer la belle tournée à venir pour la formation! On quitte la tente, en étant certains d’avoir vu à ce moment là un des meilleurs public du festival, et une prestation qu’il ne fallait pas manquer!

Après leur set d’anthologie en tête d’affiche du Rock In Bourlon on ne pouvait manquer ce nouveau passage français des belges de Brutus. Le public s’est déplacé en nombre pour voir le groupe en action et dès le premier titre la sauce prend inévitablement! Il faut dire que la prestation de Stefanie Mannaerts à la batterie est au chant est toujours aussi impressionnante. On en finit même par se demander si elle n’a pas quatre poumons pour tenir cette cadence une heure durant. Peter Mulders et Stijn Vanhoegaerden livrent eux aussi une prestation unique, faisant le plus possible face à leur batteuse pour suivre son rythme. Les titres de Unison Life se mêlent à ceux des albums précédents et forment un tout émouvant au possible. La voix éraillée de la chanteuse y est évidemment pour beaucoup et nous transporte totalement! On sent sur les visages du public que la surprise et l’étonnement devant un set de cette qualité sont totales! L’heure semble si courte en compagnie du trio, mais chaque morceau est un pur bonheur à vivre, et lorsque le dernier arrive on se laisse submerger par les émotions. Brutus c’est une expérience, un instant de bravoure qui dure, mais surtout un trio qui ne cesse jamais de nous impressionner. La Dave se souviendra de ce samedi 19 août longtemps!

Russian Circles (Massey Ferguscène)

Et comme si on était déjà pas assez en miettes émotionnellement, on se dirige vers la Massey pour l’avalanche Russian Circles! Le trio américain va en trente secondes nous envoyer une force de frappe musicale absolument dantesque. Chaque morceau respire la puissance et la maestria. Les yeux s’écarquillent face à cette prestation d’anthologie.  Le post métal du groupe américain est impactant comme jamais et nous laisse profiter des talents combinés des trois musiciens. On ne peut que profiter pleinement du set et se dire qu’on a face à nous une des formations les plus étonnantes qu’il nous ait été donné de voir. Musicalement on enchaîne les merveilles dévastatrices. Russian Circles sont un groupe à foncer voir et on se demande bien comment on va survivre tout le reste de la soirée après cet enchaînement. Une petite pause s’impose!

Nous sommes partis pour un retour vers nos années collège avec Bullet For My Valentine! Le groupe attire évidemment un monde fou devant la Dave Mustage, tous prêts à reprendre en chœur les hits des gallois. Et ça démarre fort puisqu’après le récent « Knives » le groupe enchaine avec les cultissimes « Over It » et « Your Betrayal ». L’énergie est bien là et la présence du groupe toujours aussi forte. Les jeux de lumière nous en mettent plein la vue et renforcent cette impression d’être face à un groupe qui ne vieillit pas. Les voix de Matthew Tuck et Jamie Mathias (basse) se mêlent parfaitement et font de moment comme « Scream, Aim, Fire » ou « Shatter » des moments inoubliables. Après s’être égosillés sur « Tears Don’t Fall » on use de la fin de notre énergie vocale pour tout donner sur « Waking The Demon » qui clôt ce set tubesque! BFMV ont réussi à nous réunir entre classiques et nouveauté et continuent leur chemin avec ce talent qu’on leur connaît! Une tête d’affiche qui a tenue toutes ses promesses!

Amenra, ou le groupe qui joue avec nos larmes! Dès les premiers instants du set l’ambiance est posée entre l’écran en fond de scène et la prestation déjà unique des musiciens. Colin H. van Eeckhout toujours au sommet, nous tourne le dos comme à son habitude pour laisser ses émotions libérer toute leur puissance. Il se retournera quelques fois pour hurler sa détresse face à nous, ce qui impacte toujours plus. « Plus près de Toi »,  » A Solitary Reign » ou encore « De Evenmens » viendront nous chercher au plus profond de notre âme. Malheureusement des gens peu réceptifs à l’expérience proposée se donneront le droit de gâcher l’expérience de ceux prêts à ce voyage, on ne les remercie clairement pas! Les mots nous manquent pour exprimer le beauté qui s’est dégagée du set des belges, mais ce qu’on sait c’est que cette heure nous laissera sans voix et vidés, incappables de voir d’autres groupes après. Le retour au camping se fera entre émerveillement, instrospection et colère froide face à l’irrespect de certains. Amenra envoutent, émeuvent et emportent tout sur leur passage, et pour ça on les remercie du plus profond de notre cœur.

Ce samedi au Motocultor a encore laissé de belles images dans nos esprits. On a fait de belles découvertes, retrouvé des groupes qu’on ne ratte pour rien au monde, et une formation qui nous a fait chanter les tubes de notre adolescence. Bref une journée excellente qui nous laisse déjà bien vidés, mais il reste encore un jour à vous raconter! On profite de cette conclusion pour saluer les bénévoles, les équipes presse et tout le staff pour l’accueil au top autant sur le festival, qu’au camping ou à l’espace VIP/Presse! A demain pour la fin de nos aventures à Carhaix! 

Day three at Motocultor, and this time we’re well rested and ready to make the most of another warm, sunny day. Once again, the day’s line-up is a real eye-opener, and we’re rushing to get on site as soon as possible to make the most of the facilities and varied food trucks. In short, it promises to be an excellent day, and we can’t wait to share it with you! Head for the Dave Mustage to catch the end of Dutch band Rectal Smegma‘s set. If the atmosphere in the pit is anything to go by, their gore grind seems to have already had a following. Their music is fast, energetic and wildly decadent. Pure regressive fun, with the audience losing a few brain cells in the process. But isn’t that what everyone wants from a concert of this kind? In any case, the band give it their all, showing us that the Dutch grind scene is in top form!

We’re off to the Massey to see Sylvaine live for the very first time. We couldn’t miss this set at Sounding Shivers, given that the musicians included our Lille friend Maxime Mouquet (Queen (Ares), Coole Max)! Let’s head for the barrier to make the most of the show! Norwegian Katherine Shepard‘s black shoegaze project will have us spellbound in a matter of seconds, and will quickly rank among our top concerts of the festival. It has to be said that the four musicians on stage give it their all and take our souls to dreamlike, dark lands. The immersion is total and every note enchants our ears. The singer-guitarist seems very moved by the welcome her project has received from the Carhaix audience. The emotions are alive and well on our side of the fence, and we wonder why we didn’t go and see the band sooner. After a set that went by far too quickly for our liking, we let ourselves be carried away by one last musical nugget served up by musicians at the top of their game and by Katherine‘s majestic voice. The band left the stage to rapturous applause, having totally won over the festival audience! We wouldn’t miss their next shows for the world!

It’s time to catch up with Not Scientists, the band who totally won us over with their album released earlier this year. Their show, a mix of new wave and punk, is a pleasure for the ears and makes you want to shake your head. The songs on Staring At The Sun stand up to the test of live performance effortlessly, and the audience is not mistaken. Ed is as effective as ever on vocals and guitar, taking us along in a whirlwind of energy. The band’s excellent live reputation is undisputed, and they’re proving it once again! We’re having a great time with them, and we hope to see them again very soon for a full headlining set in our neck of the woods!

We’ve been looking forward to this gig since 2019! It’s our first chance to see Pénitence Onirique live, and we can tell you that from the very first seconds the band are going to turn our stomachs. Their black metal is as introspective as you could wish and lets our emotions swirl as the tracks go by. Visually, of course, it’s a majestic spectacle. The masks worn by the band members are each more beautiful than the last, taking us a little further into the band’s universe. The power of each track touched our hearts, and it was hard to remain impassive in the face of such beauty and musical force. A moment suspended in time that also left its mark on our festival. We hope the band’s next tour stops in Lille so we can enjoy it for longer.

Sitting between the two tents, we can enjoy the audio of Oï Boys‘ set and the visual ambience of the pit. The band’s energy was enough to convince us. We followed the whole performance, telling ourselves that we wouldn’t miss a repeat performance for anything in the world. But well done, guys, for an energetic, good-natured set that made our break a very enjoyable one!

Massey welcomes our flagship band of the past year, Birds In Row! We’re ready to sing along to the Laval trio’s songs. The lyrics resonate as powerfully as ever. The band, still as one, tell us about the failings of our society with force, and leave no one out. Their set leaves nothing to chance and continues to prove the trio’s excellent health. As always, we’ll be saluting the strong messages delivered by a Bart in a state of grace! Every track they play turns us inside out and makes our already tired voices scratch a little more, but it’s all in a good cause! Birds In Row are a band not to be missed under any circumstances, and the festival audience made no mistake, shouting, crying and singing along to the powerful lyrics of ‘Noah’ and ‘Rodin’. The band left us with « I Don’t Dance », which put the finishing touch to a performance that had not lacked one. A pure pleasure that we want to relive again and again! See you in Béthune!

A bit of metalcore never hurts, and Bleed From Within from Scotland are a good reminder of that adage. Scott Kennedy is an unrivalled frontman and has the crowd in his pocket in a matter of seconds. The band’s songs are modern, powerful and get the crowd moving – what more could you ask for? The performance was excellent and let us take the Glasgow band’s music right in the face. Bleed From Within put in a top-quality performance, showing that metalcore has just as much a place at the festival as any other genre, and the crowd clearly got the message!

Already during the sound check, the crowd at the Massey could be heard singing along to « Messager », ready to give the legends of Sortilège a fitting welcome. Their album, released earlier this year, showed that the French heavy band still have some fine strings to their bow. Christian ‘Zouille’ Augustin sings as well as ever and commands the crowd like never before. The atmosphere is excellent and shows that audiences of all ages are always ready to enjoy a Sortilège set! It’s impossible not to get carried away by the fervour of the crowd and the stage. On ‘Attila’, Stéphane Buriez (present at the festival with his Tribute To Thrash project) joins Christian in a legendary duet! Each track is an opportunity for the band to show that the current line-up is indisputably one of the best in the band’s history. The band have fun and show us all their talent track after track! It was a set that will leave its mark on the festival, and one that suggests the band have a great tour ahead of them! As we leave the tent, we’re sure we’ve seen one of the best crowds of the festival, and a performance not to be missed!

After their anthology set as headliners at Rock In Bourlon, we couldn’t miss this new French appearance by Belgium’s Brutus. The audience turned out in force to see the band in action, and from the very first track the sauce inevitably took hold! Stefanie Mannaerts‘ performance on drums and vocals is as impressive as ever. You even end up wondering if she hasn’t got four lungs to keep up this pace for an hour. Peter Mulders and Stijn Vanhoegaerden also put in a unique performance, facing their drummer as much as possible to keep pace with her. Tracks from Unison Life blend with those from previous albums to form a moving whole. The singer’s raspy voice is obviously a big part of the mix, and it’s a real transport! You can tell by the looks on the audience’s faces that they’re totally surprised and amazed by a set of this quality! The hour seems so short in the company of the trio, but each track is a pure joy to experience, and when the last one arrives you’re overwhelmed by the emotions. Brutus is an experience, a moment of bravery that lasts, but above all a trio that never ceases to impress. The Dave stage will remember this Saturday 19 August for a long time to come!

And as if we weren’t emotionally shattered enough already, we head to the Massey for the Russian Circles avalanche! In the space of thirty seconds, the American trio unleash an absolutely dantesque musical strike force. Each track exudes power and mastery. The audience’s eyes widen at this anthological performance. The American band’s post-metal is as impactful as ever, letting us enjoy the combined talents of the three musicians. You can’t help but enjoy the set to the full and realise that you’re looking at one of the most astonishing bands we’ve ever seen. Musically, it’s one devastating wonder after another. Russian Circles are a must-see band, and we’re wondering how we’re going to survive the rest of the evening after such a succession. Time for a break!

We’re off for a trip back to our middle school days with Bullet For My Valentine! The band obviously attracts a huge crowd in front of the Dave Mustage, all ready to sing along to their Welsh hits. And it all kicked off with a bang, following on from the recent ‘Knives’ with the cult hits ‘Over It’ and ‘Your Betrayal’. The energy is there and the band’s presence is as strong as ever. The lighting effects were spectacular, reinforcing the impression that this is a band that never gets old. The voices of Matthew Tuck and Jamie Mathias (bass) blend perfectly, making moments like « Scream, Aim, Fire » and « Shatter » unforgettable. After singing our hearts out on « Tears Don’t Fall », we use the last of our vocal energy to give it our all on « Waking The Demon », which brings this hit set to a close! BFMV have succeeded in bringing us together the classics and the new, and are continuing on their way with their renowned talent! A headliner that lived up to all its promises!

Amenra, or the band that plays with our tears! Right from the start of the set, the atmosphere is set between the screen at the back of the stage and the musicians’ already unique performance. Colin H. van Eeckhout, always at the top of his game, turns his back to us as usual to let his emotions run riot. He turns his back a few times to scream his distress in front of us, which makes an ever greater impact. « Plus près de Toi », « A Solitary Reign » and « De Evenmens » reach deep into our souls. Unfortunately, some people who aren’t very receptive to the experience on offer will take it upon themselves to spoil the experience of those who are ready for this journey, and we certainly don’t thank them! Words fail us to express the beauty that emanated from the Belgians’ set, but what we do know is that this hour will leave us speechless and drained, unable to see any other band afterwards. The return to the campsite was a mixture of wonder, instrospection and cold anger at the disrespect shown by some. Amenra bewitch, move and sweep away everything in their path, and for that we thank them from the depths of our hearts.

Saturday at Motocultor left a lasting impression on our minds. We made some great discoveries, caught up with bands we wouldn’t miss for the world, and a band that made us sing along to the hits of our teenage years. In short, an excellent day that’s left us feeling pretty drained, but there’s still a day to tell you all about it! We’d like to take this opportunity to salute the volunteers, the press team and all the staff who made us feel so welcome at the festival, the campsite and the VIP/Press area! See you tomorrow for the end of our adventures in Carhaix!
