A côté du stade Bollaert et d’une médiathèque on peut cacher beaucoup de choses. C’est ce que nous réserve le Métal CH4 et sa salle “Petit Théâtre”. L’organisation nous a préparé une date orientée Punk-Hardcore avec les trois groupes : Drops HC , Bill the Dog et pour finir la soirée Toxic Waste. Date qu’on ne pouvait manquer pour mesurer la température de cette organisation essayant de pousser le métal dans Lens avec des concerts tous les 3-4 mois.

Les festivités commencent avec DROPS HC. Les arrageois commencent à se faire un nom sur la scène du hardcore, nous avions déjà pu voir de quoi il en retournait lors du concert à The Black Lab en première partie de Terror. La formation se présente à nous carencé d’un guitariste nous offrant ici plus de simplicité mais tout autant d’agressivité. Fort de trois titres sortis 2022/23 et d’un EP en préparation, la formation nous sert son positive Hardcore et chauffe déjà bien la salle réceptive à l’énergie du groupe. On pensait avoir tout vu en terme de Breakdown, mais Res nous a proposé le premier Nerfous Breakdown qui n’a pas manqué de surprendre le public.

Le concert se termine et on saluera une nouvelle fois l’engagement du groupe envers la cause animale avec leur collaboration avec Hardcore Cares.

On continue la soirée avec les Amiénois de Bill the Dog. La formation compte déjà 4 EP à son actif dont le tout dernier ExPxf sorti mai dernier. On sent de suite que le public était venu pour la partie Punk Rock de la date. Les premiers pogos font leur apparition lors des titres comme “La bagarre”, les chants sont repris à l’unisson sur “La bière”. Une camaraderie se dégage de la prestance scénique où le bassiste et le guitariste n’hésitent pas à se bousculer sur scène, rentrer dans le public … Les textes sont engagés comme peut nous le montrer “Du Rouge au Bleu”. La formation finit son concert avec une salle conquise mais si comme ils le disent “Ils nous détestent tous”.

Pour finir la soirée arrivent les lillois de Toxic Waste. Plus la peine de les présenter, les quatre lillois délivrent leur énergie et chansons  depuis 1991 en France et en Europe. Les fans sont au rendez-vous et ne manquent pas de chanter et interagir directement avec le groupe en montant sur scène. Le son reste dans son jus des années 90, qui dénote avec les deux précédents groupes avec des titres comme “Netflix” ou “E-conne”. Malheureusement nous sommes restés un peu hermétiques au groupe sans pour autant remettre en question leur parcours et qui rencontre un fervent support de leur public qui exultait à chaque nouveaux morceaux.

On ne manquera pas de parler du Métal CH4 et de l’organisation qui a été aux petits soins avec les artistes et notre équipe. L’association respire le DIY et le local (implication de la famille bénévole, bière locale …) et mérite d’être connue à plus grande échelle surtout le concept de concert à thème permettant aux amoureux d’un style ou autre d’avoir leur part de métal. Cependant, Metal CH4, on a remarqué quelques comportements que nous ne trouvons pas acceptables dans le public et on espère, pour les prochains concerts, une implication de l’organisation pour faire des concerts, un rendez-vous safe pour tous.tes.

Next to the Bollaert stadium and a media library, there’s a lot to hide. That’s what’s in store for Métal CH4 and its ‘Petit Théâtre’ venue. The organisers have lined up a Punk-Hardcore date with three bands: Drops HC , Bill the Dog and, to round off the evening, Toxic Waste. It’s a date you just can’t miss if you want to gauge the temperature of this organisation trying to push metal into Lens with concerts every 3-4 months.

The festivities kick off with DROPS HC. The band from Arras are starting to make a name for themselves on the hardcore scene, and we’d already seen what they were all about when they opened for Terror at The Black Lab. This time round, the band come to us without a guitarist, offering us more simplicity but just as much aggression. With three tracks released in 2022/23 and an EP in the pipeline, the band’s positive hardcore is already heating up the room, which is receptive to the band’s energy. We thought we’d seen it all in terms of Breakdown, but Res brought us their first Nerfous Breakdown, which took the crowd by surprise.

The evening continues with Bill the Dog from Amiens. The band already have 4 EPs to their name, including their latest, ExPxf, released last May. It was immediately clear that the audience had come for the punk rock part of the evening. The first pogos appeared during tracks like « La bagarre », and the chants were taken up in unison on « La bière ». There’s a camaraderie about the band’s stage presence, with the bassist and guitarist not hesitating to jostle each other around the stage and into the audience… The lyrics are committed, as « Du Rouge au Bleu » shows. The band ended their concert with the crowd in raptures, but as they say, « They hate us all ».

To round off the evening, Toxic Waste arrive from Lille. There’s no need to introduce them, the four from Lille have been delivering their energy and songs in France and Europe since 1991. The fans are out in force, singing along and interacting directly with the band as they take to the stage. The sound remains in its 90s juice, which stands out from the two previous bands with tracks like ‘Netflix’ and ‘E-conne’. Unfortunately, we found ourselves a little alienated from the band, although we didn’t question their track record, which has met with fervent support from their fans, who were ecstatic with each new track.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Métal CH4 and the organisation, which took great care of the artists and our team. The association exudes DIY and local flavour (involvement of the volunteer family, local beer, etc.) and deserves to be known on a wider scale, especially the concept of themed concerts allowing lovers of one style or another to have their share of metal. However, Metal CH4, we have noticed some behaviour in the audience that we don’t find acceptable, and we hope that for future concerts, the organisers will get involved to make the concerts a safe event for everyone.
