Le Rock My Geek Music Festival, festival mettant en avant la musique et les cultures de l’imaginaire, fait un arrêt à Paris dans la belle salle du Trianon à Paris en ce début de mois de décembre. Pour cette occasion, le Neko Light Orchestra nous proposent leur concert Echo de l’Ultime Fantasy, dédié à la musique de la saga vidéoludique Final Fantasy. Pour les accompagner sur cette soirée unique: Magoyond et leur rock zombie et le Naheulband. Autant dire que le public s’est déplacé nombreux pour cette soirée placée sous le signe de la musique et des univers fantastiques.

La soirée commence avec les légendes du Naheulband. Pour ceux qui auraient dormi depuis plus de 15 ans, Le Donjon De Naheulbeuk est une saga MP3 qui a fait les belles heures du format pendant plusieurs années avant la création d’un univers transmédia bien développé, et le Naheulband en est son pendant musical. Evidemment John Lang (aka Pen Of Chaos) est aux commandes entouré de toute la troupe dans la quelle on retrouve d’ailleurs entre autres Le Mago de Magoyond! Evidemment l’ambiance est électrique dès les premières secondes et on comprend pourquoi vu que c’est le mythique « La Vie D’Aventurier » qui ouvre la soirée. Les fans du groupe sautent, chantent et dansent, faisant de la fosse du Trianon un véritable trampoline. Sur scène les huits musiciens nous offrent un set diablement rock armés pourtant de guitares acoustiques, de violon, de banjo et autres percussions. Comme quoi tout est possible pour faire le rock! Les morceaux joués ce soir sont tous repris en chœur dans une ambiance excellente qui nous fait nous demander pourquoi nous n’avons pas vu le groupe en live plus tôt. L’univers de la Terre de Fangh regorge d’aventures à raconter en chansons, comme  » Troll Farceur et Elfe Farci » ou encore « Crom », mais aussi de pubs pour des produits qu’on aimerait qu’ils existent comme les bonbons Chiantos. Après une petite heure de set passée à la vitesse de l’éclair, le groupe nous quitte avec le morceau folklorique « Bugger Off », chanté en anglais, qu’ils nous invitent à ne pas prendre au pied de la lettre. Une fin de set en apothéose qui nous montre une fois de plus que même en chantant des chansons drôles basées sur un univers fictif on peut retourner une fosse avec des qualités musicales indéniables.

On ne pouvait rêver meilleure ouverture à cette soirée avec le Naheulband. On replonge à l’envie dans cet univers important pour nous depuis de nombreuses années. Un pur plaisir musical entouré d’un public en fusion qui nous laisse imaginer une suite toute aussi énergique et mémorable. 

 

On enchaîne rapidement avec Magoyond qui ont, eux aussi, leurs fans présents en nombre dans la salle. Leur show à Petit Bain en mai dernier nous avais conquis et nous avions hâte de retrouver le groupe dans une salle plus grande. Leur set commence en trombes et nous plonge dans Necropolis. Le Mago est toujours en aussi grande forme que sur le set précédent et nous livre ici toute l’étendue de ses talents vocaux. Véritable showman il nous emporte dans ce monde peuplé de zombies si accueillant. Aspic et la basse et Nobru a la batterie forment un duo rythmique des plus énergiques et n’ont aucun mal à faire bouger le public présent ce soir dans le théâtre parisien. « Le Jour des Vivants » fait son petit effet avant qu’une horde de musiciens supplémentaires vienne rejoindre le groupe. On retrouvera entre autre le bassiste de Neko Light Orchestra qui prendra la place d’Aspic qui ira rejoindre les claviers présents sur scène, ainsi qu’un saxophoniste de talent. L’ensemble nous présente un « Vegas Zombie » d’anthologie véritable titre jazz rock qui emporte la foule dans une dance effrénée. Après ce moment joyeux Le Mago nous invite à rendre hommage à une fan disparue en faisant tourner un bouquet de fleurs dans la salle, comme un dernier slam qui ira de la fosse aux balcons. Les morceaux s’enchainent et nous montrent à chaque fois à quel point le quatuor sait faire de son univers un véritable terrain de jeu musical. Après être passé dans « Le Village », le groupe part quelques instants de scène avant de revenir pour le désormais mythique « Goliath Paradise ». Puis pour terminer ce set en beauté nous aurons le droit à une version rock de « Soyez Prêtes », morceau issu du Roi Lion, avant de finir en apothéose sur l’inoubliable et mortel « Pudding à l’Arsenic ». C’est sous des applaudissements longs et fournis que le groupe quitte la scène du Trianon avant d’aller retrouver les fans au stand de merch.

Comme en mai dernier, Magoyond nous ont proposé un show d’une qualité folle. Evidemment la taille de la salle rend l’ensemble encore plus prenant et la vivacité du public a donné à la prestation un véritable supplément d’âme (zombie évidemment!). On ne peut que vous conseiller d’aller découvrir ce groupe de rock si étonnant qui ne cesse de surprendre par sa capacité à mettre d’accord les amateurs d’univers sombres et les amateurs de musique dopée aux guitares. 

 

Il est l’heure d’accueillir les quatorze musiciens du Neko Light Orchestra sur scène pour un concert dédié à l’univers onirique de la saga Final Fantasy. D’entrée la prestation du groupe sur « Liberi Fatali », musique d’ouverture du huitième opus de la série nous plonge dans un état d’émerveillement instantané, en particulier grâce à la prestation de la chanteuse lead, qui habite les planches du Trianon. Tout au long du set on voyage dans les morceaux mythiques de Nobuo Uematsu et de tous les autres compiteur.trice.s ayant participé à cette saga vidéoludique. Evidemment les opus les plus cultes, à savoir le VII et le X, sont évidemment mis en avant avec des morceaux comme « To Zanarkand » ou « Aerith’s Theme ». Entre les morceaux Nicolas Chaccour, pianiste de la formation, nous présente les morceaux en nous replongeant dans nos souvenirs de jeu.  Evidemment plusieurs medleys sont joués pour présenter au public le plus de thèmes inoubliables possibles. Le public est subjugué par les performances de cet orchestre très rock, et « Answers » ne fera que confirmer le grand talent de tout ces artistes. Les émotions sont évidemment très fortes, mais parfois il faut se bouger car on a un combat à mener! Plusieurs jeux auront leur thèmes de combat représentés ce soir et c’est un pur plaisir de retrouver ces morceaux que l’on entend souvent en boucle lors de nos parties. Evidemment le morceau « One Winged Angel » de Final Fantasy VII sera évidemment joué en fin de soirée et accueilli par des fans extatiques. On quitte la salle ravis de cette prestation et on se donne rendez-vous à un des autres concerts de cet orchestre majestueux, et dans un autre univers puisque l’ensemble alterne entre plusieurs spectacles dédiés à des mondes de l’imaginaires différents.

Cette prestation du Neko Light Orchestra, qui était la 400ème, a tenue toutes ses promesses. On a plongé dans nos souvenirs de jeu avec des morceaux qui ont une place de choix dans nos cœurs. Les quatorze artistes sur scène étaient tous et toutes au sommet de leur art et ont montré que les bandes originales de nos vies de gamers ont toute leur place dans les plus grandes salles de concert.

The Rock My Geek Music Festival, a festival promoting music and fantasy cultures, is making a stop in Paris at the beautiful Trianon in early December. To mark the occasion, the Neko Light Orchestra will be performing their Echo de l’Ultime Fantasy concert, dedicated to the music of the Final Fantasy video game saga. Accompanying them on this unique evening will be Magoyond and their zombie rock and the Naheulband. So it’s safe to say that there was a huge turnout for this evening of music and fantasy.

The evening begins with the legends of Naheulband. For those of you who have been asleep for more than 15 years, Le Donjon De Naheulbeuk is an MP3 saga that was the highlight of the format for several years before the creation of a well-developed transmedia universe, and the Naheulband is its musical counterpart. John Lang (aka Pen Of Chaos) is obviously at the helm, surrounded by the whole band, including Magoyond‘s Le Mago! The atmosphere is obviously electric from the very first seconds, and it’s easy to see why, given that it’s the legendary ‘La Vie D’Aventurier’ that opens the evening. The band’s fans jump, sing and dance, turning the Trianon pit into a veritable trampoline. On stage, the eight musicians played a devilishly rock set, armed with acoustic guitars, violin, banjo and percussion. Just goes to show that anything is possible when it comes to rock! The songs played this evening are all taken up in chorus in an excellent atmosphere that makes us wonder why we hadn’t seen the band live before. The world of Fangh Land is full of adventures to be recounted in song, such as ‘Troll Farceur et Elfe Farci’ and ‘Crom’, as well as adverts for products we wish existed, such as Chiantos sweets. After a lightning-fast hour-long set, the band left us with the folk song « Bugger Off », sung in English, which they warned us not to take literally. A climactic end to their set, showing us once again that even singing funny songs based on a fictional universe can turn a pit upside down with undeniable musical qualities.

We couldn’t have wished for a better opening to this evening with Naheulband. It’s a world that’s been important to us for many years. It’s pure musical pleasure, surrounded by a melting-pot audience that leaves us imagining an equally energetic and memorable follow-up.

Next up is Magoyond, who also have a strong following of fans in the room. Their show at Petit Bain last May had won us over, and we couldn’t wait to see the band again in a bigger venue. Their set kicks off with a bang and plunges us into Necropolis. Le Mago is still in top form from his previous set, and here he shows us the full extent of his vocal talents. A true showman, he carries us away into this welcoming world populated by zombies. Aspic on bass and Nobru on drums form an energetic rhythmic duo and have no trouble getting the audience in the Paris theatre moving. « Le Jour des Vivants » proved a big hit before a horde of additional musicians joined the band. These included the bassist from Neko Light Orchestra, who took Aspic‘s place whom joined the keyboards on stage, and a talented saxophonist. The band perform an anthology ‘Vegas Zombie’, a real jazz-rock number that takes the crowd into a frenzied dance. After this joyous moment, Le Mago invites us to pay tribute to a deceased fan by spinning a bouquet of flowers around the room, like a last slam that goes from the pit to the balconies. The tracks follow on from one another, each time demonstrating the extent to which the quartet know how to turn their universe into a veritable musical playground. After passing through « Le Village », the band left the stage for a few moments before returning for the now legendary « Goliath Paradise ». Then, to round off the set in style, we were treated to a rock version of « Soyez Prêtes », a song from The Lion King, before ending on a high note with the unforgettable and deadly « Pudding à l’Arsenic ». The band left the Trianon stage to rapturous applause before heading off to meet fans at the merch stand.

As they did last May, Magoyond put on a show of insane quality. Of course, the size of the venue made the whole thing even more exciting, and the liveliness of the audience gave the show a real soul boost (zombie, of course!). We can’t recommend going out and discovering this amazing rock band, who never cease to surprise with their ability to bring together fans of dark worlds and fans of guitar-fuelled music.

It’s time to welcome the fourteen musicians of the Neko Light Orchestra to the stage for a concert dedicated to the dreamlike world of the Final Fantasy saga. From the outset, the band’s performance of ‘Liberi Fatali’, the opening music from the eighth opus in the series, plunges us into an instant state of wonder, thanks in particular to the performance of the lead singer, who inhabits the Trianon stage. Throughout the set, we’re taken on a journey through the legendary tracks by Nobuo Uematsu and all the other composers who have contributed to this videogame saga. Obviously, the most cult opuses, namely VII and X, are highlighted with tracks such as « To Zanarkand » and « Aerith’s Theme ». Between songs, Nicolas Chaccour, the band’s pianist, introduces us to the tracks, taking us back to our playing memories. Naturally, several medleys are played to give the audience as many unforgettable themes as possible. The audience is captivated by the performances of this very rock band, and « Answers » only confirms the great talent of all these artists. Emotions run high, of course, but sometimes you’ve got to get a move on because you’ve got a fight on your hands! Several games will have their battle themes represented this evening, and it’s a pure pleasure to find these tracks that we often hear over and over again during our games. Of course, Final Fantasy VII‘s ‘One Winged Angel’ will be played at the end of the evening to a rapturous reception from the fans. We left the hall delighted with the performance and we’re looking forward to seeing you at one of the other concerts by this majestic orchestra, and in another universe since the ensemble alternates between several shows dedicated to different imaginary worlds.

This performance by the Neko Light Orchestra, which was their 400th, lived up to all its promises. We were transported back into our gaming memories with songs that hold a special place in our hearts. The fourteen artists on stage were all at the top of their game and showed that the soundtracks of our gamer lives have their place in the biggest concert halls.
