A peine six mois après la sortie de CONFLICT DLC, et après la sortie de plusieurs EP de remixes, les californiens de HEALTH nous proposent une suite à leur cycle composé de RAT WARS et de l’album cité précédemment avec ce nouvel EP. ADDENDUM, disponible depuis le 30 avril via Loma Vista, vient ajouter sept titres à un univers musical déjà très riche. Certains sont disponibles depuis un certain temps mais cet EP nous offre une belle occasion de vous en parler.

On commence l’écoute avec « FREE TO DIE » qui est un featuring avec le groupe américain Filter. On y retrouve évidemment la pate de HEALTH mais avec cette identité un peu post grunge apportée par les invités. Les voix se mêlent parfaitement et nous lancent dans cet EP de la plus belle des manières. « TRIALS » prend la suite et nous voilà dans ce que le trio américain fait de meilleur. Jake Duzsik avec sa voix reconnaissable entre mille nous emporte dans ces paroles puissantes et souvent mélancoliques à souhait. Et pourtant nous voilà avec une furieuse envie de remuer grâce au son indus offert par la guitare de Jake mais aussi par l’ensemble BJ Miller à la batterie et John Famiglietti à la basse. Ce trio nous en remet plein la vue avec sa reprise bien connue grâce aux concerts de « BE QUIET AND DRIVE (FAR AWAY) de Deftones. Le groupe y apporte sa touche et nous fait une fois de plus redécouvrir ce titre majeur du groupe de Sacramento. Sur le titre suivant c’est Chelsea Wolfe qui vient poser sa voix éthérée sur un titre une fois de plus très réussi et qui mêle parfaitement les univers des artistes présents sur cette composition. On se croirait envouté par un fantôme avec autour de nous un monde froid et métallique, un pure réussite de plongée de l’auditeur dans des images mentales fortes. « RUIN » et « A.L.O.N.E » sont deux nouvelles pépites du trio, qui collent parfaitement à l’identité sonore de cette partie de leur discographie. On y retrouve notre envie de danser tout en étant émus par des titres taillés pour nous faire passer par des sensations toujours plus fortes. Pour terminer cet EP nous avons le droit à « THE DRAIN » disponible déjà depuis un certain temps mais qu’on redécouvre avec joie. Bad Omens et Swarm se joignent à la partie pour une composition qui reste en tête et qu’on a envie de se passer en boucle tant elle combine avec brio les univers des trois projets tout en rejoignant parfaitement le reste des titres de cette nouvelle sortie. On ne pouvait rêver meilleure manière de terminer ce nouveau voyage musical en compagnie du groupe de Los Angeles.
Avec ADDENDUM, HEALTH nous proposent un supplément parfait a des oeuvres déjà mémorables à souhait. Chaque titre vient parfaitement s’intégrer à un univers sonore fort et reconnaissable tout en apportant avec les invités d’autres sonorités bienvenues. Le trio californien sait ravir ses fans avec des sorties régulières de tout type et cet EP comble nos attentes et nous laisse avec l’envie de retrouver le groupe en live au plus vite!
HEALTH seront de passage au Bataclan à Paris le 29 novembre prochain en compagnie de Vowws et Doodseskader. Une date à ne pas manquer!

Barely six months after the release of the CONFLICT DLC, and following the release of several remix EPs, the Californian band HEALTH present a follow-up to their cycle comprising RAT WARS and the aforementioned album with this new EP. ADDENDUM, available since April 30th, adds seven tracks to an already rich musical universe. Some of these tracks have been available for a while, but this EP gives us a great opportunity to tell you about them.
We kick off the listen with ‘FREE TO DIE’, a track featuring the American band Filter. It clearly bears HEALTH’s signature sound, but with a slightly post-grunge edge brought by the guest artists. The vocals blend perfectly, launching us into this EP in the finest possible way. “TRIALS” follows, and here we are experiencing the American trio at their very best. Jake Duzsik, with his instantly recognisable voice, draws us in with his powerful and often perfectly melancholic lyrics. And yet here we are, with a furious urge to move, thanks to the industrial sound provided by Jake’s guitar, as well as the ensemble of BJ Miller on drums and John Famiglietti on bass. This trio really impresses with their cover of Deftones’ “BE QUIET AND DRIVE (FAR AWAY)”, a track well-known from their live shows. The band adds its own touch, allowing us to rediscover this major track by the Sacramento-based group once again. On the next track, Chelsea Wolfe lends her ethereal vocals to yet another highly successful track that perfectly blends the worlds of the artists featured on this composition. It feels as though we’ve been bewitched by a ghost, surrounded by a cold, metallic world – a masterful immersion of the listener into powerful mental imagery. “RUIN” and “A.L.O.N.E” are two new gems from the trio, fitting perfectly with the sonic identity of this part of their discography. It captures our desire to dance whilst being moved by tracks crafted to take us through ever-intensifying sensations. To round off this EP, we’re treated to “THE DRAIN”, which has been available for some time but which we’re delighted to rediscover. Bad Omens and Swarm join in for a track that sticks in your head and that you’ll want to play on repeat, as it brilliantly combines the worlds of the three projects whilst fitting perfectly with the rest of the tracks on this new release. We couldn’t have dreamed of a better way to end this new musical journey in the company of the Los Angeles band.
With ADDENDUM, HEALTH offer us the perfect complement to their already unforgettable body of work. Each track fits seamlessly into a powerful and instantly recognisable soundscape, whilst the guest artists bring a welcome variety of new textures. The Californian trio know how to delight their fans with a steady stream of releases of all kinds, and this EP more than lives up to our expectations, leaving us eager to see the band live as soon as possible!
