Pour célébrer la musique en ce 21 juin, A Gauche De La Lune et le Métaphone à Oignies ont frappé fort en proposant une affiche internationale idéale pour tout amateur de musiques extrêmes. La salle nordiste a accueilli un plateau de très haute volée réunissant les Allemands de Lifespark., les Texans de Catch Your Breath et, en tête d’affiche, les incontournables Américains de We Came As Romans. Énorme soirée en perspective !

C’est donc aux Allemands de Lifespark. et à leur Modern / Emo Pop Rock que revient la lourde tâche de chauffer la salle, au même titre que la température extérieure. Cependant, dès l’ouverture sur “Bloom”, un problème technique prive le chanteur David Lukacs de son micro. Qu’à cela ne tienne, le frontman ne s’avoue pas vaincu et s’empare de celui de son guitariste en attendant. Le groupe enchaîne avec l’entraînant “Last Parade” (issu de leur prochain album Everglow, prévu pour le 11 septembre 2026), faisant sauter le public dès les premières notes. S’amusant de ce problème persistant avec beaucoup d’autodérision, le chanteur invite alors les spectateurs à donner de la voix pour pallier ce manque. Une fois le micro réparé, le quatuor dégaine des reprises pop inattendues, revisitées en version heavy mais terriblement efficaces (“Unwritten” de Natasha Bedingfield ou encore “Patience” de Take That), avant de relancer la machine à riffs sur “Stay Away” et “So Long”. C’est d’ailleurs sur ce dernier que s’ouvre le premier vrai pit de la soirée, à la demande expresse du groupe, déclenchant de gros pogos. Car oui, au-delà de sa musique accrocheuse, Lifespark. sait définitivement comment faire bouger une foule. Avant d’entonner l’un de leurs plus grands succès, “Follow Me”, le quatuor improvise une petite séance de cardio sur un interlude techno improbable, transformant la fosse… en boîte de nuit ! Portés par un chant impeccable, David et ses comparses tirent leur révérence sur “Lucid Dreamer”. Sincèrement touché par cet accueil digne d’une tête d’affiche, Lifespark. a laissé Oignies chauffé à bloc. Une sacrée mise en bouche !
La scène s’apprête maintenant à accueillir Catch Your Breath, venu tout droit d’Austin, Texas. Comme avant chaque morceau du set, une voix robotique féminine introduit le premier titre, “Blood Money”. Une entrée en matière puissante, tandis que les Texans dégagent une tranquillité et une aisance scénique déconcertantes. Le groupe profite de ce show millimétré pour faire la part belle à son très attendu deuxième album à paraître le 28 août 2026, Not Broken Enough, avec les morceaux “Control”, “Lost”, “Dark” et l’excellent “[Gen]inside”. Le public se montre toutefois un peu plus sage que pour le groupe précédent, mais tout aussi réceptif, chantant en chœur les paroles de “Y.S.K.W.” et du tube incontournable “21 Gun Salute”. De son côté, le frontman se montre très humble et prend le temps de saluer le public, rappelant avec reconnaissance que c’est uniquement grâce au soutien des fans présents qu’ils peuvent s’adonner à ces tournées et vivre de leur passion. L’instant magique de leur prestation survient sur l’incontournable “Dial Tone”, leur plus gros succès. À la demande du groupe, le Métaphone se transforme en une marée de lumières, tandis que le refrain résonne à pleins poumons dans toute la salle. Catch Your Breath a livré une prestation solide, clôturée majestueusement par le fédérateur “Shame on Me”, laissant un public envoûté et des fans rassasiés.
Il est l’heure d’accueillir les patrons de la soirée : We Came As Romans. Une fois passé le court titre introductif “ALL IS BEAUTIFUL…”, la transition avec ”bad luck” s’avère être une véritable claque. Ce tube monstrueux retourne immédiatement la fosse ! Les sauts s’enchaînent, le public hurle les paroles, bref une véritable folie ! Le vocaliste Dave Stephens, dans une forme olympique et multipliant les « merci beaucoup » en français, est gonflé à bloc et exige l’ouverture immédiate des hostilités à coups de mosh pits et de crowdsurfing. Le public nordiste ne se fait pas prier et un massif wall of death éclate sur “red smoke”. Même face à un dilemme de taille (chanter ou aller dans le pit ?), la foule fait sans broncher les deux, tandis que les premiers slameurs font leur apparition sur l’entêtant “one by one”. L’un des moments poignants du concert survient avant “Lost in the Moment”. Le groupe souhaite rendre hommage au regretté Kyle Pavone (chanteur et claviériste de la formation pendant dix ans, décédé à 28 ans en 2018), invitant chaque personne à vivre l’instant présent. L’émotion cède ensuite de nouveau la place à la fureur, notamment sur le très bon “Darkbloom”, où les vagues de slameurs redoublent d’intensité. Entre deux hymnes ravageurs, Dave s’autorise même un discours inspirant sur leurs vingt ans de carrière, exhortant l’audience à apprendre de ses échecs et à ne jamais abandonner ses rêves. Nous approchons de la fin du set et cette dernière s’annonce sans aucun doute dantesque. Une fois le titre fédérateur “where did you go?” passé, la salle explose sur le monstrueux “Black Hole”, le hit absolu du groupe, véritable machine à headbang ! Faisant l’éloge du public français qu’ils qualifient parmi les plus énergiques au monde, We Came As Romans achève la fosse avec “Daggers” et un ultime wall of death. Pendant une heure, les américains ont livré une prestation littéralement sensationnelle, faisant la part belle à leur dernier opus en date, All Is Beautiful… Because We’re Doomed (sorti en août 2025). En bonus, le groupe nous annonce qu’il sera de retour par ici en 2027. Quel bonheur !
Fêter la musique avec de tels groupes et une ferveur pareille, on ne pouvait rêver mieux ! Du bouillant Lifespark. au professionnalisme de Catch Your Breath, jusqu’à la déflagration We Came As Romans, le public du Métaphone a vécu une soirée metalcore magistrale. Une communion totale entre des musiciens généreux et des spectateurs nordistes qui ont prouvé, une fois de plus, qu’ils savent recevoir avec une énergie implacable. Hâte de les revoir dans le coin !

To celebrate music on June 21st, A Gauche De La Lune and the Métaphone in Oignies pulled out all the stops by putting together an international line-up that was perfect for any fan of extreme music. The venue in northern France hosted a top-class line-up featuring Germany’s Lifespark., Texas’s Catch Your Breath and, headlining, the unmissable American band We Came As Romans. A massive night in store!

So it falls to the German band Lifespark. and their modern/emo pop rock to take on the daunting task of warming up the venue, just as the temperature outside is rising. However, right from the opening bars of “Bloom”, a technical fault leaves singer David Lukacs without his microphone. Never mind, the frontman refuses to be beaten and grabs his guitarist’s mic in the meantime. The band followed up with the rousing “Last Parade” (from their upcoming album Everglow, due on September 11th), getting the crowd jumping from the very first notes. Making light of this persistent problem with plenty of self-deprecating humour, the singer then invited the audience to sing along to make up for the missing mic. Once the microphone was fixed, the quartet unleashed some unexpected pop covers, reworked into heavy versions but incredibly effective (Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” and Take That’s “Patience”), before firing up the riff machine again with “Stay Away” and “So Long”. It was during the latter, in fact, that the evening’s first proper mosh pit opened up, at the band’s express request, sparking massive mosh pits. Because yes, beyond their catchy music, Lifespark. definitely know how to get a crowd moving. Before launching into one of their biggest hits, “Follow Me”, the quartet improvised a little cardio session to an unlikely techno interlude, transforming the mosh pit… into a nightclub! Bearing the weight of impeccable vocals, David and his bandmates take their bow on “Lucid Dreamer”. Sincerely moved by this headliner-worthy reception, Lifespark left Oignies absolutely buzzing. What a cracking start!
The stage is now set to welcome Catch Your Breath, straight from Austin, Texas. As before every track in the set, a robotic female voice introduces the opening track, “Blood Money”. It’s a powerful start, whilst the Texans exude a disconcerting calm and ease on stage. The band are making the most of this meticulously choreographed show to showcase their highly anticipated second album, due for release on August 28th, Not Broken Enough, with the tracks “Control”, “Lost”, “Dark” and the excellent “[Gen]inside”. The audience, however, proved a little more subdued than for the previous band, though just as receptive, singing along to the lyrics of “Y.S.K.W.” and the unmissable hit “21 Gun Salute”. For his part, the frontman was very humble and took the time to greet the audience, gratefully reminding them that it is solely thanks to the support of the fans present that they are able to embark on these tours and make a living from their passion. The magical moment of their performance came during the unmissable “Dial Tone”, their biggest hit. At the band’s request, the Métaphone is transformed into a sea of lights, whilst the chorus echoes at the top of everyone’s lungs throughout the venue. Catch Your Breath delivered a solid performance, brought to a majestic close by the crowd-pleaser “Shame on Me”, leaving the audience spellbound and the fans thoroughly satisfied.
It’s time to welcome the headliners of the evening: We Came As Romans. Once the short opening track “ALL IS BEAUTIFUL…” is over, the transition into “bad luck” proves to be a real knockout. This massive hit instantly sends the pit into a frenzy! Jumps come thick and fast, the crowd is screaming the lyrics, in short, it’s absolute madness! Frontman Dave Stephens, in top form and repeatedly saying “merci beaucoup” in French, is raring to go and demands that the action kick off straight away with mosh pits and crowdsurfing. The northern crowd doesn’t need to be asked twice, and a massive wall of death erupts during “red smoke”. Even faced with a major dilemma (singing or heading into the pit?), the crowd does both without batting an eyelid, whilst the first slam dancers make their appearance during the catchy “One by One”. One of the concert’s most poignant moments comes before “Lost in the Moment”. The band paid tribute to the late Kyle Pavone (the band’s singer and keyboardist for ten years, who died aged 28 in 2018), urging everyone to live in the moment. Emotion then gave way to fury once more, particularly during the excellent “Darkbloom”, where the waves of headbangers grew even more intense. Between two devastating anthems, Dave even treats the crowd to an inspiring speech about their twenty-year career, urging the audience to learn from their failures and never give up on their dreams. We’re nearing the end of the set, and this finale is shaping up to be nothing short of epic. Once the crowd-pleaser “Where Did You Go?” has finished, the venue goes wild to the monstrous “Black Hole”, the band’s absolute hit and a real headbanging machine! Praising the French crowd, whom they describe as among the most energetic in the world, We Came As Romans bring the pit to a close with “Daggers” and one final wall of death. For an hour, the Americans delivered a truly sensational performance, giving pride of place to their latest album, All Is Beautiful… Because We’re Doomed (released in August 2025). As a bonus, the band announced they’ll be back here in 2027. What a treat!
