#Live : MDNS + Content Fernand + Baasta @ Le Métaphone, Oignies – 26/09/2026

On Saturday, September 26th, we headed towards Oignies to catch one of our favorites from the Lille music scene: MDNS. For the occasion, the Métaphone Club was also hosting Content Fernand and Baasta, promising a night fueled by energy and conviction.

Baasta, hailing from Lens, kicked off the evening. With their RC Lens scarves, raincoats, and no-frills attitude, there was no mistaking where they came from. Armed with a formidable drum machine, the duo delivered a brand of post-punk that was both edgy and catchy, blending social commentary with dry, biting humor. The rhythms quickly became infectious, while the lead singer commanded the stage with boundless energy, moving constantly as if unable to stand still for even a second. While a live drummer might have added even more punch to the sound, it didn’t detract from the quality of the performance. A great way to get the festivities underway.

We first discovered Content Fernand on social media a few months ago, so they were one of the acts we were particularly excited to see live. The duo took the stage with a style that was instantly recognizable: a balaclava-clad guitarist proudly sporting a Noirmoutier football shirt, and a cap-wearing singer with dance moves that were as quirky as they were endearing. It was also impossible to miss a fan in the front row who knew every song by heart and sang along throughout the entire set—a scene that was as amusing as it was touching for an audience where many were still discovering the band. Between songs, the frontman shared a stream of anecdotes and outlandish stories. It is an exercise that amuses some just as much as it seems to annoy others, yet it is integral to Content Fernand’s identity. The duo performs a cover of a Mickey 3D song, among others, and delivers a set that explores the many facets of their musical world. When the time comes to address more serious topics, the band does not hesitate to remind the audience of the importance of voting in upcoming elections—a message that resonates deeply in a mining region where political issues loom large. The audience seems to largely share the artists’ values, and for us, the conclusion is simple: while Content Fernand had already won us over on record, they convinced us even more with their live performance.

Then comes the long-awaited moment. Having fond memories of his sold-out show at L’Aéronef, we had high expectations for this new encounter with MDNS. Let it be said right away: we were not disappointed. The concert begins with the musicians arriving one by one, before MDNS finally appears to the roar of the crowd. Mosh pits break out almost immediately, and a collective euphoria sweeps through the venue. From the very first minutes, the Lille-based artist delivers a series of highlights, notably with his latest track dedicated to a barmaid. Crowd-surfers appear quickly, and the energy kicks up another notch when MDNS himself decides to get up close and personal with the audience. He seems genuinely happy to be there, as do his accompanying musicians.

Between songs, the singer also takes the time to address political issues head-on. True to his convictions, he delivers a clear message— »Vote LFI »—which meets with a positive response from the crowd. He then introduces each of his musicians before moving on to several new tracks that demonstrate his evolving repertoire. And that is perhaps what we love most about MDNS: even when you’re lucky enough to see him perform multiple times a year, he still manages to surprise. We sing, we dance, we smile constantly, and—above all—we have a fantastic time. For the encore, the crowd breaks into a sustained rhythmic clap accompanied by a resounding chant of « Siamo tutti antifascisti, » affirming their anti-fascist stance—just in case anyone still had doubts. It is a powerful final image to cap off a night where music, celebration, and political commitment constantly intertwined. A cohesive lineup, three impassioned bands, and a captivated audience.
