Burning Heads’ skate punk is back! Indeed, the band, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2027, is back in full swing with All Fired Up, released on October 16th via Kicking Records. This is their fifteenth album, proof of the Orléans-based band’s tireless spirit.

This new album kicks off with a tribute to one of their older tracks: “SOS”, released in 1999 on the album Escape. It’s actually almost exactly the same length! Naturally, the band’s sound has evolved, and this new track has been reworked to fit the 2026 version of the Burning Heads universe. Incidentally, “SOS” originally stood for “Same Old Story”, whereas here it stands for “Same Old Shit”, alluding to the rise of the far right, which the band has always fought against. We move on to “Fire walks with her”, one of the most successful and memorable tracks on this album, in my opinion. We’re fully immersed in the skate punk world, reminiscent of bands further afield such as The Descendents. As always, the punks are in top form. The rhythm section carries us along; the tempo perfectly matches the fiery name of the album and the band, whilst Fra sings with his usual energy… Without simply repeating previous albums, Burning Heads stay true to their core sound. The band never lacks inspiration and has therefore managed to deliver 13 effective new tracks here. Some tracks convey a sense of urgency and anger, such as “Consequences”. It features quite deep tones, more prominent bass lines, and even a background sound reminiscent of an alarm. “My life is a lie”, by contrast, opens with a guitar solo that brings a lighter touch. The intensity returns quickly, but with a more melodic chorus. The guitar effects seem to draw on post-punk or cold punk, with more reverb. Here, the focus is more on themes relating to relationships, particularly romantic ones. “How Many Tears” picks up on this guitar sound but with a less melancholic emotional tone, instead embracing a more forward-driving energy. And “All Fired Up” conveys this famous energy brilliantly! At times, you feel completely swept along by this steamroller, much like “Fast Forward” with its rapid tempo. We can’t wait to see the mosh pit go wild at the front! And “Big Lies”, which follows, doesn’t slow the pace down. The vocals here are by turns chanted and sung. We round off this highly effective album with “High Times”, in reggae style, something Burning Heads do so well!
All Fired Up is another excellent album from Burning Heads: energetic, punk, socially conscious, powerful… The formula works as well as ever! The band isn’t afraid to draw on more contemporary sounds whilst staying true to their roots and paying lovely tributes to their past. Still with us? Go and have a listen to the album! To experience the band’s back catalogue live, head to La Maroquinerie on March 20th 2027 to celebrate their 40th anniversary!
