The first gig in Bricks’ series of three autumn evenings at La Brat Cave! Right in the middle of the school holidays, Bricks put on a double bill on October 28th: The Male Idiot Theory from Tournai, followed by Prisonnier du Temps, hailing from Brest! It didn’t take long to spot some familiar faces from La Brat Cave, but above all there was a very punk crowd and a friendly, good-natured atmosphere! Prisonnier will be unleashing their fierce Punk/Oï set in front of a half-full but incredibly welcoming venue!
Review and pictures by Rémi
This is the first time we’ve seen The Male Idiot Theory at the Brat Cave. This duo (performing as a trio tonight) from Tournai play fast, effective punk! The core line-up features a drum machine, a guitar, a bass and LuLu Sabbath on vocals. The line-up with Ripoll (Jodie Faster), who really lets rip on his cymbals, works a treat! The tracks are a cut above live compared to the EP released in December 2025, which is already bloody good! The band’s been around for at least five years, and you can tell – they’re clearly enjoying themselves on stage! It’s been a brilliant discovery for me, and one that really deserves to happen again. The audience is engrossed, I wouldn’t say shy, but focused; they’re nodding their heads, and you can feel the atmosphere gradually building right up to the very end of the set! Right up to singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Lulu, what a lovely moment!
Here we are now with Prisonnier du Temps. The set kicks off straight away with the classic “Comme un lion en cage”, followed by “Finir comme toi”. The foundations are solid; Prisonnier du Temps really are a lively and intense band. The band revolves around Jacky Cadiou (Syndrome 81 and Coupe Gorge, amongst others) and his impeccable moustache! You can hear him belting it out from start to finish whilst jumping about and lurching from left to right. The new album, Prendre le pouvoir par la force, released last May via La vida es una mus, blends in brilliantly with the set. The line “Freedom is won through blood” really sticks in the mind, chanted like a slogan. In the current climate, it feels really good to sense this unity; it channels the anger and makes the message all the more clear. Prisonnier du temps reminds us of this again with “La Rose Blanche” and “Marqué à vie” a little later in the set. The tracks flow seamlessly and naturally into one another, becoming anthems. The punks and skinheads in the crowd are drawing ever closer together; there’s a mosh pit going, and it’s a joyful, multi-generational affair! The French version of The Cult’s “Spiritwalker”, translated as “Même mon âme”, is sung in unison, arms raised towards the sky, or rather, the low ceiling of the Brat Cave! We’re even treated to an encore, what a treat! I can only urge you to follow Prisonnier du Temps and all the bands on this French and European punk/oï scene.
As I mentioned earlier, Bricks is treating us to a superb opening night! The next two nights will also be in the same refined vein of tar and gravel. Like a big middle finger to the news and those perverts with their gloomy, foul-smelling mindsets, the heat of the streets has a soundtrack thanks to this trio: Nuits Blanches and Shart Division will be playing on November 4th, followed by Take It In Blood and Moldy on December 13th, all at the Brat Cave! Feel free to come in a group, bring your kids and your curious friends; it’s at nights like these that you can really feel a sense of unity and kindness!
