Quatre ans après l’excellent Sentence, les français de Beyond The Styx sont de retour avec un tout nouvel album. Intitulé DIVID, il sera disponible le 8 mai prochain via Innerstrength Records. Le groupe de hardcore nous a montré avec les singles déjà disponibles qu’il n’a rien perdu de son énergie et qu’on peut espérer trouver dans ce nouvel opus des titres taillés pour le pit le plus furieux qui soit et des thématiques fortes.

L’album s’ouvre sur un featuring avec Okan Deniz de I Am Revenge qui vient apporter cette identité sonore qu’on reconnait du groupe allemand à celle de Beyond The Styx. L’énergie de ce premier titre ne laisse rien au hasard et nous annonce un album des plus percutants tout en allant proposer des paroles fortes sur l’envie forte de combattre le racisme et les exclusions en général. Les deux titres suivant enchaînent rapidement des riffs percutants portés par David et Guillaume, toujours à cheval entre pur hardcore, beatdown mais aussi influences death et thrash. Un pur bonheur pour les oreilles qui laisse également à Emile l’occasion de poser ses meilleurs lignes vocales. Le titre « Never Ending War » vient poser un pavé dans la marre en nous mettant en face de la bêtise que sont les guerres et sur les motivations toujours plus flous de nos dirigeants pour les déclencher. On retrouve là tout ce qui fait le set des sorties du groupe et ça n’est pas « Chaosystem » qui nous fera mentir avec des rythmiques dantesques servies par Adrien à la batterie et Yoann à la basse. Sur « Flowerviolence » c’est au tour de Delphine du groupe tourangeau Sisterhood Issue de venir mêler sa voix à celle de Emile dans un texte toujours plus incisif qui vient nous frapper par son intensité. L’album file à une vitesse folle mais des titres comme « Graveyard FS » ou encore « Kiss Of the Cobra » nous montrent que la formation a de quoi nous en mettre plein la vue une fois de plus avec des titres qui donnent envie de lancer des side to side dans votre salon. L’énergie qui se dégage de ce disque est sans commune mesure et à la hauteur des combats ou sujets mis en avant dans chaque composition. On est là face à un groupe qui ne laisse rien au hasard et la fin du disque sur « Deadlock V » et l’excellent « Storm Of Life » vient nous retourner une fois de plus avec un ensemble musical dévastateur où chaque musicien donne son meilleur pour nous laisser sur une envie de relancer l’album en boucle!
DIVID donne à voir ce que Beyond The Styx ont de meilleur. Chaque titre est un brulot lancé à pleine vitesse dans nos oreilles et qui ne perd rien de l’esprit combatif et rassembleur du genre musical. Un album qui montre à quel point la scène française excelle dans ce style et à quel point il faudra continuer de compter sur Beyond The Styx dans les années à venir!

Four years on from the excellent *Sentence*, French band Beyond The Styx are back with a brand-new album. Entitled *DIVID*, it will be released on 8 May via Innerstrength Records. The hardcore band has shown us with the singles already released that they’ve lost none of their energy, and we can expect this new album to feature tracks tailor-made for the most ferocious mosh pit imaginable, alongside powerful themes.
The album opens with a guest appearance by Okan Deniz of I Am Revenge, who brings the German band’s distinctive sound to Beyond The Styx. The energy of this opening track leaves nothing to chance and heralds a powerfully impactful album, whilst delivering powerful lyrics about the fierce desire to combat racism and exclusion in general. The next two tracks quickly follow with hard-hitting riffs driven by David and Guillaume, straddling pure hardcore and beatdown whilst also drawing on death and thrash influences. A pure delight for the ears, it also gives Emile the chance to deliver his finest vocal lines. The track ‘Never Ending War’ makes a real splash by confronting us with the folly of war and the increasingly murky motivations of our leaders for starting them. Here we find everything that defines the band’s discography, and “Chaosystem” certainly doesn’t disappoint, with its hellish rhythms delivered by Adrien on drums and Yoann on bass. On ‘Flowerviolence’, it’s the turn of Delphine from the Tours-based band Sisterhood Issue to join forces with Emile on vocals, delivering lyrics that are more incisive than ever and strike us with their intensity. The album races by at breakneck speed, but tracks like “Graveyard FS” and “Kiss Of the Cobra” show us that the band has what it takes to blow us away once again with songs that make you want to dance side to side in your living room. The energy radiating from this record is unparalleled and matches the struggles and themes highlighted in each track. Here we are faced with a band that leaves nothing to chance, and the album’s conclusion with “Deadlock V” and the excellent “Storm Of Life” blows us away once again with a devastating musical ensemble where every musician gives their all, leaving us wanting to play the album on repeat!
DIVID showcases the very best of Beyond The Styx. Every track is a firebomb hurled at full speed into our ears, losing none of the combative and unifying spirit of the genre. An album that demonstrates just how much the French scene excels in this style and how much we’ll need to keep counting on Beyond The Styx in the years to come!
