En cet été 2026, les portugais de Moonspell nous retrouvent avec leur nouveau disque, cinq années après l’excellent Hermitage. Intitulé Far From God, ce quatorzième album studio du groupe de Brandoa sera disponible le 3 juillet prochain via Napalm Records. Huit nouveaux titres de dark gothic metal, qui à la vue des singles déjà disponibles, s’annoncent comme un grand cru pour nos oreilles.

Dès le début de « Cross Your Heart » on retrouve toute la puissance de Moonspell, et en particulier les riffs de Ricardo Amorim, absolument imparables et taillés pour nous faire passer par un torrent d’émotions fortes en quelques secondes. Puis arrive la voix de Fernando Ribeiro, lui aussi en forme olympique! Son timbre unique fait vivre chaque ligne de chant comme jamais et fait de ce premier titre une entrée parfaite dans ce nouvel opus. Sur le morceau titre ce sont Aires Pereira à la basse et Hugo Ribero à la basse qui s’illustrent dans une composition majestueuse qui nous colle des frissons tant elle vient nous toucher. En deux titres déjà on voit que les portugais se sont surpassés pour ce nouvel album pour nous offrir leur meilleur tout en faisant une fois de plus la part belle à la puissance contenue en particulier dans les parties vocales. « Biblical » confirme tout ça avec encore une fois des performances sublimes de chaque musicien mais c’est sur « The Great Wolf In The Sky » que ce disque prend une autre dimension. Evidemment Fernando excelle au chant, aussi bien dans les parties plus douces que celles plus énergiques, mais sur ce titre c’est Pedro Paixão aux claviers qui s’illustre particulièrement accompagné par Alicia Nuhro aux cordes. Cette dernière renforce encore plus l’immersion dans ce titre qui s’inscrit définitivement comme un des meilleurs de la discographie du groupe, et qui deviendra sans aucun doute un inoubliable des concerts. La formation se fait menaçante dans l’excellent « Your Promise Of Light » avec cette mélodie sombre sublimée par les riffs de Ricardo. Puis, « For The Love Of Mortals » fait vibrer les amteurs de Unheilig que nous sommes avec une ligne de chant qui n’est pas sans nous rappeler le timbre de Der Graf, vocaliste du projet allemand. La fin d’album est un voyage tout aussi passionnant et donnant à voir ce que Moonspell font de meilleur. Les rythmiques, les riffs, le chant et les parties de claviers de « Our Freedom To Fall » ou « Reconquista » sont de véritables réussites et nous laissent avec une apothéose finale qui ne laisse pas indifférent. On ne saurait que dire, à part que chaque note nous enchante et à quel point la puissance du chanteur nous fait frissonner.
Avec Far From God, Moonspell montrent que même après quatorze disques ils ont encore de quoi surprendre leur public. On a là un album passionnant qui dévoile un peu plus de subtilités à chaque écoute. Les huit titres laissent tous exploser la créativité du groupe portugais et nous offrent de quoi attendre les prochaines tournées avec impatience. Un immanquable de l’été et une très belle pierre à l’édifice déjà solide qu’est la carrière du groupe.

This summer of 2026, the Portuguese band Moonspell are back with a new album, five years on from the excellent *Hermitage*. Entitled Far From God, this fourteenth studio album from the Brandoa-based band will be released on July 3rd via Napalm Records. It features eight new dark gothic metal tracks which, judging by the singles already available, promise to be a real treat for our ears.
Right from the start of “Cross Your Heart”, we’re hit by the full force of Moonspell, and in particular Ricardo Amorim’s riffs, which are absolutely unstoppable and designed to sweep us through a torrent of intense emotions in a matter of seconds. Then comes Fernando Ribeiro’s voice, he’s in top form too! His unique timbre brings every line of the vocals to life like never before and makes this opening track the perfect introduction to this new album. On the title track, Aires Pereira on bass and Hugo Ribero on bass shine in a majestic composition that sends shivers down our spines, so deeply does it move us. Within just two tracks, it’s clear that the Portuguese band have surpassed themselves on this new album, offering us their very best whilst once again showcasing the raw power contained particularly in the vocal parts. “Biblical” confirms all this with yet another sublime performance from every musician, but it is on “The Great Wolf In The Sky” that this record takes on a whole new dimension. Naturally, Fernando excels on vocals, both in the softer and the more energetic sections, but on this track it is Pedro Paixão on keyboards who particularly shines, accompanied by Alicia Nuhro on strings. Her contribution further deepens the immersive experience of this track, which undoubtedly ranks among the best in the band’s discography and is sure to become an unforgettable live favourite. The sound takes on a menacing edge in the excellent “Your Promise Of Light”, with its sombre melody enhanced by Ricardo’s riffs. Then, “For The Love Of Mortals” thrills Unheilig fans like ourselves with a vocal line that is not unlike the tone of Der Graf, the vocalist of the German project. The end of the album is an equally thrilling journey, showcasing the very best of Moonspell. The rhythms, riffs, vocals and keyboard parts on “Our Freedom To Fall” and “Reconquista” are true masterpieces, leaving us with a grand finale that leaves no one unmoved. There’s little more to say, other than that every note enchants us and just how much the singer’s power sends shivers down our spines.
With Far From God, Moonspell show that even after fourteen albums, they still have plenty in store to surprise their audience. This is a thrilling album that reveals a little more of its subtleties with every listen. All eight tracks showcase the Portuguese band’s creativity in full force and give us plenty to look forward to on their upcoming tours. A must-have for the summer and a wonderful addition to the band’s already solid body of work.
