Les Allemands d’Electric Callboy font leur retour ce vendredi 7 août avec leur septième album studio, Tanzneid, à venir sur les labels Century Media Records/SONY. Une fois n’est pas coutume, la bande de (très) joyeux lurons nous balance une bombe énergique de 14 titres (9 morceaux + 4 remix) parfait pour partir en after et vous mettre de bonne humeur (ou pour commencer votre journée du bon pied).

Le groupe a lancé la propagande de ce nouveau disque en sortant pas moins de 8 singles clipés, tous plus fous les uns que les autres. Parce qu’en effet, le teasing de ce nouvel opus à débuté il y a déjà… un an. Avec le premier clip sorti en Mai 2024, des titres déjà joués en live, des teasing en voulez-vous en voilà, histoire de nous mettre bien l’eau à la bouche, il était temps d’arriver à ce jour tant attendu de sortie.
“TANZNEID”, single qui ouvre l’album, est un condensé de tout ce qu’on aime chez le groupe : un mélange de metalcore, electro hardstyle et de refrains dance/pop entêtants. Un régal qui donne le ton pour le reste de l’album.“RATATATA” en feat avec les très cool BABYMETAL, ressuscite les années 90. Sortez votre meilleur K-way multicolore et foncez en fête foraine pour manger de la barbe à papa, faire votre meilleur karaoké et vos tours de grand 8. Et quoi de mieux pour se faire que le titre “Elevator Operator”, résolument dansant et coloré, pour pouvoir attraper la queue de Mickey? Pour continuer dans cette lancée WTF qu’ils maîtrisent tant, le groupe nous balance un autre single, “The Way You Are”, une track très typée pop à la Backstreet Boys avant de littéralement vriller et de partir sur des sonorités à la limite du deathcore/sympho. Tout ceci pourrait sonner comment un mélange vilain et pourtant, quelle prouesse technique ! Dans cette même lancée, le titre “Heartclub” est d’une puissance folle. Adepte de BLEGH et de refrains catchy, vous serez servi ! On adore aussi le clin d’œil (pas très subtil) à The Offspring avec le titre “Let The Good Times Roll”. Une chanson clairement écrite pour les festivals et les stades pour hurler à pleins poumons avec les potes, le tout en portant bien évidemment le combo mulet/moustache.
En parlant de groupes qui étaient à leur max dans les 90’s/00’s, le groupe d’outre-Rhin nous offre une reprise du titre “Still Waiting” des boss de Sum 41. Evidemment le fait que Frank Zummo ait rejoint le groupe officiellement en tant que batteur, n’y est probablement pas pour rien. Il allait de soit qu’ils rendent hommage à leurs potos… À la sauce Electric Callboy, bien évidemment.
Vous êtes prêts à partir en soirée tech? Parce que c’est clairement là où cette fin d’album nous emmène. Comme un joli retour en arrière avec les différents remix proposés de leur albumMMXX – Hypa Hypa Edition (sorti en 2021). Notez d’ailleurs que le step-up est immense, car à l’époque ils avaient fait appel à des DJ Allemands et cette année, ils viennent du monde entier. “We Got the Moves” et “Tanzneid” ont été réinterprété brillamment par le DJ américain Sullivan King. Sa patte heavy dubstep se marie parfaitement avec l’electronicore de nos germaniques préférés. Paolo Ferrara, producteur italien et pionnier de la technometal s’est attaqué à “Revery”. En lui donnant une tout autre dimension grâce à sa techno fusion metal matchant à la perfection avec l’esprit du groupe. Pour le titre “Hypercharged” c’est le DJ néerlandais Paul Elstak qui s’y est collé. Ses beats electro happy hardcore sonnent comme une évidence et clôture magnifiquement ce nouvel effort.
Tanzneid est un album à prendre au 1000e degré tant il part dans tous les sens, mais toujours réalisé avec brio. Une recette que seul Electric Callboy connait et qui fonctionne toujours aussi bien ! Cet album est clairement le rafraichissement souhaité pour gérer ces journées de canicule qui rendent zinzin.e. Cet album est clairement celui d’un été sous le signe de la fête pour contrer les horreurs du monde et mettre des paillettes dans nos coeurs.

The band kicked off the promotional campaign for this new album by releasing no fewer than eight singles, each accompanied by a music video, each one crazier than the last. Because, in fact, the build-up to this new album began a whole… year ago. With the first music video released in May 2024, tracks already played live, and plenty of teasers to whet our appetites, it was high time we reached this long-awaited release date.
“TANZNEID”, the album’s opening single, encapsulates everything we love about the band: a blend of metalcore, electro hardstyle and catchy dance/pop choruses. A real treat that sets the tone for the rest of the album. “RATATATA”, featuring the very cool BABYMETAL, brings the 90s back to life. Dig out your best multicoloured rain jacket and head to the funfair to eat candyfloss, give your best karaoke performance and go on the rollercoaster. And what better way to do that than with the track “Elevator Operator”, resolutely danceable and colourful, so you can grab Mickey’s tail? Carrying on in this WTF vein they’ve mastered so well, the band throws another single our way: “The Way You Are”, a track with a distinct Backstreet Boys-style pop vibe before it literally goes off the rails and veers into sounds bordering on deathcore/symphonic metal. All this might sound like a messy mix, and yet, what a technical feat! In the same vein, the track “Heartclub” packs an insane punch. If you’re a fan of BLEGH and catchy choruses, you’re in for a treat! We also love the (not-so-subtle) nod to The Offspring with the track “Let The Good Times Roll”. A song clearly written for festivals and stadiums, to belt out at the top of your lungs with your mates, whilst sporting the mullet and moustache combo, of course.
Speaking of bands that were at their peak in the 90s and 00s, this German band treats us to a cover of “Still Waiting” by the legends of Sum 41. Of course, the fact that Frank Zummo has officially joined the band as drummer probably has something to do with it. It was only natural that they’d pay tribute to their mates… Electric Callboy-style, of course.
Are you ready for a tech party? Because that’s clearly where the end of this album is taking us. It’s like a lovely trip down memory lane with the various remixes featured on their album MMXX – Hypa Hypa Edition (released in 2021). Note, incidentally, that the leap forward is huge, as back then they’d called on German DJs, whereas this year they’ve brought in artists from all over the world. “We Got the Moves” and “Tanzneid” have been brilliantly reworked by American DJ Sullivan King. His heavy dubstep style blends perfectly with the electronicore of our favourite German band. Paolo Ferrara, an Italian producer and technometal pioneer, has taken on “Revery”. He’s given it a whole new dimension thanks to his techno-fusion-metal style, which matches the band’s spirit perfectly. For the track “Hypercharged”, it’s Dutch DJ Paul Elstak who’s taken the reins. His happy hardcore electro beats feel like a natural fit and bring this new release to a magnificent close.
Tanzneid is an album to be taken with a massive pinch of salt, as it goes off in all directions, yet is always executed brilliantly. It’s a formula that only Electric Callboy knows how to pull off, and it works just as well as ever! This album is clearly the refreshing fix we need to get through these scorching days that are driving us all a bit mad. It’s definitely the soundtrack to a summer of partying, designed to counter the horrors of the world and fill our hearts with sparkle.
