#Live : Marta + Carmen Sea @ Le Grand Mix, Tourcoing – 15/10/2026

Whenever one of our favourite bands comes to the area, we simply can’t resist going along! Tonight, Carmen Sea are making the trip to the Grand Mix club, and we simply couldn’t miss it, given how much their previous releases have made an impression on us. They’re supporting Marta, an astonishing drum-and-violin duo we can’t wait to discover, especially as one of the musicians is a member of both bands playing tonight. Here we are, ready for a good dose of emotion and dancing.

We hadn’t seen Carmen Sea for a while, and in the meantime the band has become a trio! The Parisian trio treat us to their rather unique blend of post-rock and electro, entirely instrumental, and have the club of Le Grand Mix on its feet within seconds. The audience gives it their all, dancing from the very first notes and throughout the set, spellbound by the band’s performance. It has to be said that the tracks are incredibly effective! The combination of violin, guitar and drums works wonders and sends shivers down our spines from start to finish. Joachim Baumerder excels on both the violin and the keyboards, whilst Étienne Ouradou dazzles us with his riffs, which are as incisive as they are danceable. Rounding out the trio, Baptiste Marzano pounds his drums with gusto, driving us to move with ever-increasing intensity. Seeing the band on stage is pure joy, and we love being able to discover their new compositions live, mixed in with older tracks, such as those from the excellent EP Sorry, released a few years ago now. It’s hard not to be blown away by this electrifying performance from start to finish, which, as the minutes tick by, is met with ever-louder applause from an audience won over and delighted by the discovery. Baptiste thanks the venue and the audience several times for their warm welcome, then the band launches into their final tracks before leaving the stage, thrilled by the enthusiasm of the Grand Mix crowd. We hope to see Carmen Sea back in the area very soon with a new release under their belt. In any case, their set was full of emotion and we’ve come away as captivated as ever by the Parisian band’s world.

The stage change is fairly quick, and it’s Marta’s turn to take to the stage. We’re in uncharted territory here, having never heard of the band before. So we’re joined by Joachim Baumerder on the violin, accompanied this time by Simon Lacouture on the drums. Right from the start, Simon’s spiral cymbal takes us by surprise, and off we go for a set of wild dance music. The band play live techno. Joachim’s violin is constantly enhanced by effects pedals, whilst the rhythm section is driven by Simon, who displays impressive mastery behind his kit. The audience gets into the spirit of things and doesn’t hesitate to get moving throughout the set. It has to be said that the duo’s music is bursting with energy, to such an extent that one wonders how just two musicians manage to create such fully-fledged techno atmospheres. It’s astonishing and shows just how much there still is to marvel at in the French music scene. Fans of bands like La Jungle will find plenty to enjoy in Marta’s music, even if the sound is quite different from what the Belgians offer; yet there’s that same irrepressible urge to get moving, a sign that the duo excel at their art. With every track, the two musicians’ talent shines through a little more brightly, and by the time the final track is announced, you wonder who in the room has even a shred of energy left, such is the infectious rhythm the duo has kept us moving to throughout their performance. The combination of drums and violin is captivating, and it’s easy to imagine that Marta will have no trouble getting audiences on their feet all over France, and beyond! We strongly encourage you to go and see the duo live, and for our part, we’re adding their name to our list of acts to follow closely. A final big round of applause for Joachim, who seems to have boundless energy after his two sets, separated by a break of barely 20–25 minutes!
